After seeing a "3" playing post for us so often this year, I don't know why some people continue to get hung up on plugging guys into each of the traditional 1-5 spots.  Not in the MAC.  Coaches are going to put the guys on the floor who they think can win basketball games.

As opposed to coaches who put guys on the floor who will lose games.

  2. Good points.  I'm aware they can get fined and reprimanded.  I also know we know the school made a case against buddy after the BG game.   I'm trying not to sound like a whining fan from a team that's having a losing season.  Just over the last week of watching different MAC games and teams I'm more attuned to it.   As for standing up to them,  Groce timed it well in this game.   And I think as coach he can get our fans fired up. We need some of that.

Ya'll care way too much about seeding for a team who most likely won't even make it to Cle. Can't think of a less intriguing topic to discuss.

Ugh.  Rather agree with you.  Not really seeing a way forward when our only hope is to maybe get to play PCCC on the road.

  4. I wasn't able to listen to the post game.  Did Groce elaborate on why he went off on Mayborg.   I'm thinking the "2" was for two games he f'd up.

As for GT, his coverage of the Zips is always downright condescending.   However, that is the attitude of most ABJ reporters who take pleasure in misery or bad luck of others.

  5. If Ball State wins and the Zips win this weekend, we are looking at either Bowling Green or Miami?  However, if we lose, I'm seeing a trip to Kalamazoo.  If NIU beats Ball State and we lose to Kent, Kent can end up with a first round bye...god forbid.  Then we are still looking at going to Muncie or Kalamazoo.

If we win and Ball State and Miami win, we would be tied with Ohio.  I'm not sure who wins that tiebreaker.  Then there would be a Kent and Miami tie breaker.  If we have the tiebreaker with Ohio then we would get Bowling Green and Ohio would go to Miami?

  6. The only 5 homes games is a bummer for me, but I see what you all are saying about all the Saturday games.  Also, with Kent and the two home games following that, we really have three games in a row we can attend.  I'm more of a basketball guy, but it seems like you all would rather have an away game against a Big 10 school rather than a home game against let's say...VMI?

He also he his first class in by that point (Cooper and company).

Oh, I know.  I don't expect that at all this year.  Like the rest of us I don't expect too much these next two games but really, really hope he can get us to Cleveland.  Awesome to see Cotton back tonight.

On the bus ride home the guys are not going to be thinking about the loss. They are going to be thinking about how coach went off on that ass hat ref!

I didn't watch the game but looked at the replay to see what the fuss was about.  I am so happy that Groce did that.  I can't speak for the players, but I can say as a fan that we needed him to stand up to these clowns especially Buddy Mayborg.  Frankly, I hope he keeps it up next year and invigorates the fans, so we can create a truly hostile environment at the JAR.

As I said in another thread, I saw Ball State and BG get f'ed over by bad calls at the end of their games Saturday.  The coaches need to stand up to these guys.

I had the same thought but since we play Friday we have no way of knowing what to do.  If we played Saturday night I would dump the game in a flash to play at Kent.  I know that you do not believe that we have a snowballs chance of going anywhere but this team is playing as a team, playing good defense and the coach finally likes the product on the floor.  Maybe we can have a team overachieve in the MAC Tourney.

In 2010, Groce and Ohio started their championship run on the road at Ball State albeit it was a #8 and a #9 match up.

  10. Thoughts leading into what is likely our final week of play:

Miami:  That loss yesterday hurt like a MAC tourney loss to me.  I don't like seeing Miami, with their first year coach, rising further than we are at the moment.  I keep in mind they were in pretty bad shape the last few years.  Their coach didn't show up for their final game last year, and I think a couple years ago they made it to Cleveland but didn't bother to send their band or cheerleaders.   Without our injuries and challenges, we would be closer to where they are now.  Relieved (if that's the right word) to hear that Cotton was having a health issue and wasn't "on his way out."  It was difficult for me to believe that Groce is so hard-nosed that he would sit Cotton on bench to prove a point during the final games of the season.

Officials:  Last night I watched the end of the PCCC/BG game and watched the refs give the game to PCCC by calling a foul on Dylan Frye when he barely made contact with Avery who was blowing to the hoop for a lay up he then missed.  Then the night before a Western Michigan player flopped while shooting a 3 and the subsequent foul on Ball State certainly pushed the momentum to the Broncos.

MAC Standings:  Am still hoping for that first round home game or a trip to Cleveland.  I note that out of the four teams at the bottom:  NIU, CMU, Ohio, and Zips, we are only one with a first year coach.  I'm sure the coaching staff know that with a depleted team like we have the idea of winning four games in six days is impossible.  Was thinking yesterday, the players just got tired at the of the Miami game.  With no back up for the main guys, its hard for them to keep up the frenetic pace.  Maybe that's why they were playing not to lose in second half as someone said.

MAC Tourney:  MAC is still a one bid tourney.  I will miss being in the mix of MAC tournament week, but I don't miss the stress, anxiety, and usual disappointment.  Happy to watch some other teams and fan bases go through that. But just for this year!  Would be fun to see EMU win the whole thing.  Something completely different.
