  1. After a solid first quarter, where the Zips D looked strong, Miami coaches adjusted and went “hurry up” offense and the defense was gassed (and gashed) the remainder of the game.  We had no answer and saw no adjustment on our side.  Kato’s Passes are so obvious and it’s like he’s aiming it instead of throwing it.  Ragland’s passes all had zip (excuse me) on them, released quickly with pace.  Kato telegraphs every pass.  Officiating was horrible, I agree.  But two weeks to prepare, two weeks to rest and heal, and this was what we got?  Hope everyone that got dinged up in the game are okay, some worrisome looking injuries...

  2. Our worries are over.  We don't have to worry about going to a bowl game.  We don't have to worry about driving to Detroit for a MAC Championship game.  We don't have to worry about parking in lot 1 the rest of the season, because there won't be many filled spaces.  We don't have to worry about Kato vs. Ramart, because the coaches must see something I didn't so far in KN.  Don't have to worry about people bad-talking the Zips, because no one will come back to see this s*@show.  I had my binocs stuck in my eyes most of the game, so help me out.  We're the receivers covered that well that Kato had to tuck it in and run so often?  Oh, forgot, we don't have to worry about seeing our team improve from making stupid extensive number of penalties.  Women's basketball just started, so men's will be around the corner and we can forget about how bad today really was.  Balsy was right to tune out early, wish I could have....

  3. Probably because the limited set of stats to go by, I’m going on gut feel.  I think the team is gelling as a tight unit and they seem to believe in themselves right now, so. Picked a big win.  I think the D will give up points but not more than two scores, and that will be enough to allow the O to win the game comfortably.   I agree Kato will go big yards on a few long receptions, so I voted the mid 200s.  And Jonah is comfortably familiar by now with his QB and the playbook.

  4. A little late on this, but boy was Saturday a lot of fun out at Silver Creek Metro Park as U of A hosted the 2018 All-Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country meet.  The weather was phenomenal and the Zips hosted well.  They even brought in this neat system with a huge black panel truck where each side and the rear turned into bigscreen TVs and they flew a drone over the race ans broadcast it on the truck screens!  Great addition.  About 50 Universities and colleges competed in three Divisions - D1, D2/NAIA and D3.  The Zips Men's team won the overall race, but somehow, I can't figure it out but I'm no math major, they finished second in D1 to Ohio.  The women finished 3rd in D1.  Andre Bollam-Godbot made a strong finish to place second and McKenzie Andres of Akron finished 4th.  The Zips men have now won the event 3 times, I think.  Anyway, a nice weekend afternoon rooting for the Roos.

  5. Two "controversial" thoughts - first, we've sorta become the "Kentucky" of college soccer?  One and done?  Too many players lately have come here, play one season, and leave for the pros.  DeAndre even said it in an interview earlier this year.  So does this tie in to the lack of "buy in" to the program, maybe thoughts of "why should I, if I'm leaving after this season"?  Also, does this lend itself to lack of attendance, as some long-time fans I've talked to have said they can't get excited about a team with all new players season after season, even when winning.  They want more than a handful of guys they can identify, watch come up through the program, to root for.  Just somethings to think about.

  6. If you are not busy this weekend with the Zips Gridders having a bye week, and the MSOC team not home either, nor VB...if the weather is decent, maybe drive out to Norton and see the Zips Cross Country teams compete.  Not only that, they are hosting the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships to boot!  About 50 universities and colleges from Ohio will be there competing and the course is very viewer friendly, and Akron has some serious threats with Mackenzie Andrews on the women's side and Nick Stricklen and Andre Bollam-Godbott on the men's side.  Starts at 2 pm (I think) at Silver Creek Metro Park, with the courses specifically designed for XC running.  Go Zips!

  7. I am sorry, but this feels like a junior varsity scrimmage match when I look at it.  I know there weren't a lot of options, but still.  Of course, if we look terrible or even barely win, it will add to the angst I see mounting regarding the 2018 edition of the Zips.  My big hope is, we'll put this to bed early and get to see a lot of the reserves and learn/see about them.  Supposed to be a pretty night weather-wise, but will a Canisius drum up the walk-up ticket buyer?
