Allright I've heard enough about this, but here's my 2 cents and then I'm done with it. Came up from the Carolinas and attended the game. The home side was mostly filled, Can't's was empty and that is what was shown on tv.Conditions:6 inches of snow ............... no problem.temp - appx. 15f .............. cold but still it is football45 mph wids ................... OMFG this created white-out conditions and made everything brutal. The goal posts were swaying, and the houses across the airport disappeared. need I say more.Attendance means something? OK Marsh..... er Toledo fans try the Motor City Bowl. Zips fans showed we support our team!

Is the Force still playing???All reports I get from the MISL no longer mention a teamin Cleveland.

The official make Can't State wish....
Wally B replied to Quickzips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Best of Luck to the Zips!Who say's the rivalry is dead. Thank God we can atleast hear something more than the BUGS/Rocks pissing match or the self delusional rants of blohio fans.Today all eyes are on NEOhio -
Point 1 - Yes the JAR needs some improvements, but how is it so much worse than say Dukes tiny Cameron Indoor stadium? It's older, very cramped (knees in the backs of spectators in front of you), only has bleachers, and no video scoreboard....... Yet, the Devils are doing fine! Point 2 - This is a football post, what are your opinions about the new FOOTBALL stadium? Anyone see the Carolina/Bears game @ the new Soldier field? I liked the tiered seating in the endzone which puts the fans right on top of the game.

The surrest sign that your teams are on the rise, is everone else paying attention and telling you.... you're going to fail! Points to be taken Akron Soccer has always been good Facilities and good coaching have created an emerging football program Thank god the entire St.V/M team didn't go to the NBA. Good recruting has helped the bbteam, but i believe this to be independent of the fb programs success. Time, patience, and how well we keep our noses clean will dictate our long term success! :macc:

Has your opinion changed? Playoff vs. Bowl System
Wally B replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
Exactly!!!! Unfortunately that is not realistic as long as the National Championship (BCS) is determined by member teams and their $$$$. Key word is access. -
What an idiot! Clearly you wish Toledo fans could be the same jackasses that Marshall fans were. Fortunately, we know not all Toledo fans are like that.So here are my ?'s for you TR.1) What about the crowds Akron had in d1aa. Was/is Toledo embarased that a d1aa team could out draw them and had a bigger stadium?????2) This is a pretty realistic message board, we look to the future, and respect the conference. We more than appear to be on our way up, and there is nothing wrong with anticipating growth.3) Word to the wise. Behaviorally speaking the dominant member of the pack doesn't pick fights, he doesn't need to tell anyone he's #1, it is already known. So what exactly are you trying to commuicate???4) People don't know how stupid you are until you open your mouth so don't get upset when we start calling you a flamer. 5) Preview of my future responses to youignore...........

Has your opinion changed? Playoff vs. Bowl System
Wally B replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
I really don't see the debate here. For mid-majors, nothing beats the current bowl system, we atleast have access. A major problem with the d1aa playoff system is the travel cost for the teams, as such many cite this as a reason to move up to d1a. If the bowl system was scrapped, big programs such as the ones playing for the championship tonight would get what........ 3-4 bowls each year depending on the length of the tournament? If you want a championship, a legit one that is, I say let the NCAA pick the top two teams after the bowls and have one more game, but all conferences must have reasonable access, including the SunBelt. Reality, the NCAA is not in control and the monkeys run the zoo Anyone read Animal Farm??? -
Because I was at the game I could not see the penalty on the fumble/illegal touching penalty. It was too hard to make out on the jumbotron. Does anyone have some better info on it? The papers didn't say anything, sportcenter didn't even mention it, and I can't find any replay of it on the internet. Would like some discussion on this so I can sleep a little better . On ESPN you could see a Zip reach out and slap at the ball before the snap. You must've been watching ESPN2 because that's not what I saw.......... though it was very close! Not sure that would've made a difference, but I've never seen a team try that hard that long! This is the new ZIPS! 2006 is looking better and better!!!!! BTW my two favorite teams are Akron and Whoever else beats Marshall. Good luck Tigers, thanks for a great game! In JD I Trust

Right.............................. The Zips were know for their consistently high powered offense and no defense this season!

yes. I'd like to see all the mid-majors have a chance at a BCS spot, and the Bleast doesn't cut it!

I think we would benefit by placing the stadium as close to Main St. as possible, but my heart says it will be located next to the fieldhouse tio make use of the locker-room facilities :macc: . A 45,000 seat stadium sounds good to me, as long as it doesn't end up looking like Dix.

WTF's w/ the Can't hat

Damit I'm only a half-hour from NCST, and was looking forward to the game! But, If it works out, a great pick up for UA; and I believe our team will be competetitive w/ BostonC or better next year.

Which is exactly why you'll hear a lot of Memphis fans say that Tommy West should at least be mentioned as a finalist. We went 6-5 this year with a team that lost its first starting quarterback three plays into the season, its second starting qb three games into the season, and played the last half of the season with a converted WR (former HS QB) playing QB. At one point this year, we were in the midst of a four game stretch where our two starting QBs and our All American running back had broken their right legs in the same place (if you count last year's GMAC bowl). I think our final tally of starters lost to injury during or just prior to the season was 8. That's 36% of our starting lineup lost at some point during the year. We basically had to scrap our playbook three games into the season and start fresh. We still managed to 6-5, with two of our losses coming by four points each to SEC schools. To show you just how much we had to change, our WR-turned-QB completed 1 pass for -3 yards in our win over Marshall, and we still won by three touchdowns. Coaches of 6-5 teams don't get mentioned for COY awards, but I guarantee you there wasn't a team in Div I football that dealt with more adversity than we did. Thus, These coaches should be candidates............... not necessarilly the winners, but candidates none the less. If someone like Pete Carroll, blessed with unimginable talent and money wins I'll

If a ferrari beats a Tacoma does that mean the Ferrari's mechanic should win Mechanic of the year? It shouldn't be about what your team did, it should be about what the coach did with what he had I believe JD is a qualified candidate for coach of the year

Correct me if I'm wrong, but landing PSU and tOSU in BCS bowls screws the whole thing up. My understanding is the MCB will be left with an at-lg. team instead of a B10.

A couple of observations 1) Having grown up in the Akron Metro Area, attended UA, and now traveled the country and returned on numerous occasions I've come to the conclusion that Akron has a self depreciating, psedo-masicist complex. (no i did not major in psyche) We are always looking for the hammer to fall. C'mon, how many of us gave up when we were down by two touchdowns? After the late interception? This all could be a product of growing up watching the drive, the fumble, frickin MJ/Craig Ehlo, The Marlins, etc. Then again that's Cleveland and we often feel inferior to them. 2) That said, I'm not worried about JD leaving at this time. I'll wait until we have a great season and land in the top #25 at some point during the season. I believe this is coming. Also, did anyone pick up on the conversation w/ J.Taylor during the game. He said it best. "THEY are building a great program at Akron, it is finally getting the support it needed". Our priority right now is to get an AD with as big a vision as Proenza. This will ensure a quality replacement for JD if and when that time does arrive. It is far too early to assume he's already gone. 3) Stadium Issues! Yeah, the bowl needs replaced. If it isn't happening soon, proper concessions and facilities need to be constructed NOW, and replace the frickin Seats . Personally I like the layout of the bowls seating much better than any other MAC stadium. Replacing it with a Dix style layout that only seats 15-20k and looks like a glorified HS facility won't serve our purpose or match the practice facilities. the administration did a great job of getting students to the game, and i suspect they will launch an all out effort for the MCB. This is where programs are built. This is where the program becomes part of the UA culture. THis is where graduates become lifelong fans of the EVENT. It will all come............ in time. 4) ZIPPY RULES! He finally got the national exposure he deserves, looked great!, and had fun doing it! Go Zips Fear the ZIPPY and
