  1. A nice but slow day led me to a passing thought about our 2010 schedule and rivalries..... Granted 6 home games/year at the 411 is better than 4 at the bowl, but it does pose its' own scheduling difficulties. Clearly the wagon wheel game is going to be our consistent bread and butter..... but only every other year. Cant is and will remain our cheif rival no matter what happens with conference realignments in the next 100 years (rumor has Cant going independent to garner some of Notre Dames sweet indy cash in 2045!!! ). But beyond that who is our next rival?? Sure bad blood and close games spark intrest in the short term (thinking Muck Fiami from a few years back) but why not promote the brewing/ongoing rivalry we have w/ OHIO U?????The ingredients are all there! Recent bad blood in basketball! (close games and Bubba Walther ) Several close games and bad losses in football. And the Rowdies well traveling compliment... the OZone? (certainly better at board banter than the flushies anyway..... have sense of humor.... understand definition of rival.... etc... i digress...) (disclaimer for OU fans: any actions/thoughts of AirportKC)Now back to our football schedule, which is why i brought the subject of the kitties up. Currently their rotation appears to match the flushies, home w/ Cant = home w/ Ohio, away w/ Cant = away w/ Ohio (sans the templeEAST rotation which i believe has an Akron/Cant clause). However, push the secondary rivalry, switch their rotation and you with are left with a good drawing home game every year.... Cant home = Ohio away, Ohio home = Cant away! makes sense....probably won't happen..... thoughts...Clarification: to avoid confusion we're not looking for a second girlfirend (someone we have to take to dinner and listen to them whine about "the HILLS" just so we can play some football) We're pimpin for a second payday..... if you're on the dance floor and you look to your left and your right and there's not a woman in sight...you're NOT pimpin'
  2. Sigh..... to late to register w/ free email accounts Any help??GO ZIPS!!!!

The suckeye's are at it again roflmfao!
  5. Has the Leakin picked up on this??? Not just fans attitude towards establishments that shun UA but the fact that Brubakers is in a new development dedicated to university students....... Certainly the new stadium has impacted Main St. From what you describe the seems to be a great game-day atmosphere developing, especially if the visiting OU fans were getting in on the act . Can't wait for Can't weekend!!!
  6. Can we discuss attendance?????
  7. I will respond to this (newly re-opened) thread through Zach's comment, since it is the one that makes the most sense, and the one I'm in agreement with -- with the exception of the first sentence of the final paragraph. Folks, you need to relax and enjoy this team's success! I know we are talking about AKRON BUT you need to realize soccer is a completely different animal. With the proper decisions and a relative modicum of resources, most any school can be a powerhouse. Do not underestimate the difference between Ken Lolla and Caleb Porter. Ken (who I like and admire) is an excellent coach who can make an unknown or just 'good' program into a top-20, and occasionally top-10 team. But, for him to create a team that could be a strong contender, let alone a favorite to win an NCAA title, is, IMHO, above his ceiling of potential. Caleb Porter, like his best players, deserves the honorific, of being a "special" type of coach. He is the type of personality and manager of people and the game who doesn't come along to ANY school very often. Akron's team will be the favorite to win NCAA titles for the next three years (unless we lose players to the pros, and don't replenish them, an unlikely event). As far as his being "predated" (gobbled up, Jurassic Park style by Velociraptor State), there are many very rich universities which would love to have someone of Caleb's caliber leading their programs. Big Ten schools are hardly the only ones who would offer more than Akron could. BUT, when we talk about soccer, we're again talking about a relatively low ceiling. These schools may be able to offer salaries in the 300k area. Yes, that's about double what he currently makes, but trust me, Caleb Porter LOVES being the coach of Akron, and he knows he can achieve at Akron anything he can achieve at any university in America. AND, everything I hear is, we ARE going to have the facilities deserving of a team as good as Akron and Caleb Porter require to keep the program at or near the top of the pyramid of college soccer. But, please keep up the pressure to ensure the administration commits to funding and building the stadium we have to have. Tom Wistercill seems to be quite aware of how important a sport like soccer can be to a school's overall athletics program. He's been at schools in Wisconsin and Minnesota where hockey is an integral part of the sports culture. Soccer inhabits that same space at Akron, so I'm confident we have a leader who understands its importance, and will do what's necessary to maintain our stature. Now, as to that comment of Zach's about it being "almost inevitable" that Caleb Porter will leave for "home" -- Indiana Hoosierland. Don't OVER-rate the attraction of Bloomington, Indiana. It is not a cultural capitol of anything. Caleb honors IU soccer for what is has been, and what it has enabled him to achieve himself. However, he also realizes anything he could do at IU (assuming they would somehow prefer to have him over his ex-boss Mike Freitag) he can do in Akron, Ohio. Caleb is creating a brand new soccer culture in Akron, and he must realize that while Indiana was the team in college soccer from 1975 to 2005, Akron could own the next thirty years. We all need to be part of making that a reality.Amen, well said, etc. etc........I recently heard that soccer provided a chance for mid-size and smaller schools to compete with the big boys..... The only way Akron is "small" is by athletic budgets... Yes tOSU is working to build the "soccer" brand and may in fact achieve this as they aren't left with much more to do in the "main" sports" That said, Akron has consistently been a soccer power if not quite an elite for some time. If we truly have become a "power" we'll leave the "talking" to the others and concentrate on the next game, mac foes, and the emerging tournament........
  8. Their goal keeper worries me a lot.... give me a team of any quality and a poor keeper and the zips win easily. Take an average team with a great keeper and anything can happen. 1-0 Zips or dare i say it an amazing game ending in 0-0tie
  9. and back to the topic of the month..... JD!Been lurking around this topic for awhile and a few items come to mid. 1) Clearly our biggest hole right now is at qb. Could more have been done to prepare the b/u? 2) That aside where would we be w/out the cj11 incident? Was it that predominant factor in our losses to IU and CMU(class of mAc right now)? 3) Despite the obvious results, do you believe JD responded appropriately and made the best with what he was left with? That is, has he done a good job with a crappy situation or does he hold blame irregardless? Does he get credit for a good record vs Can't?4) Clearly JD took a gamble on CJ11 that didn't pan out. But recruiting has always been a careful balance between risk and talent. Look closely at USC over the last 5 years, anyone remember Nebraska and L.Billups. It happens in the pro's as well.... Ray Carruth comes to mind, and finally Marshall (nuff said but they were still our Rubber Bowl Bit^*#$). Of course we must include tOSU and Clarette! Tressel learned with that one but that program lost it's bite ever since. Yes the 2005 class severely disappointed us but did JD learn from those mistakes? And did he learn the lessons well enough that it may not be worth letting a new underpaid coach learn it all over again?5) Even legendary coach John Wooden got off to a slow start in UCLA, and i see several common repetitive patterns in the mAc; *Great coach who leaves quickly (BGSU), **Coach that learned and subsequently builds consistency over time (Niu and Toledo come to semi recent mind), and the more familiar ones ***short tenure at consistently losing program (EMU and Can't State are not the only examples here) and ****great coach followed by mediocre ones who destroy illusions of grandeur (muck fiami)....... Where do you place JD and what route would you have the AD attempt to follow?6) No easy answers here, but curious as to what theNATION would do!
