  1. FEAR THE ROO!!!
  2. Let the whole world know! Add your own suggestions
  3. MUFF DIVE! I'm going in............... Fur burgers and sideways sloppy joes for everyone!!!! Kid's weze etin goood 2nite!
  4. Ok Zip fans! This could prove to be the most important week for Akron since our move to D1a, and yet the board is silent on the subject. Consider the following talking points *This was supposed to be a rebuilding year and expectations were low. *Yet we are still in contention for the east title! *Beat Can't and we are bowl elligble for the second year in a row! *Toledo and Boring Green play this Tuesday night, so we'll know our potential then! *If BG loses we are clearly in the drivers seat against Can't! * Official NCAA stats had the RB at 40%+ capacity/game prior to a Tuesday night game after we were blanked by Army. We are now down to 36% after 4 games (avg. 11,381) This is MUCH better than the 2,000/game we had in the Faust era! *The worst in the nation is RICE @ 14% capacity! *Even if we lose the MACC, the EAST title will give us local exposure, and better attendance will follow the better team we developed this year! In JD we trust/Fear the ROO! Piss on the Couch Potatoes who sit home and complain about our woes. Get off you butt and go to the game, or shut-up and attend Can't State (you're kind are welcome there)! Enough of the excuses, Zips Nation is Akron's band wagon, Can't is our rival, and a Championship could be on the line. What more do we want? This is our WEEK, let's hear some BANTER!
  5. Capn' Please don't put us in the same boat as the Cubs fans. It wasn't just 3', it was a whole lot of things including a young team. I still believe this is a rebuilding year and our exagerated up and down trend reaffirms it. Just a long as we beat Can't!
  6. Lets play 6degrees of Seperation 1) When the Horseshoe was redone, tOSU chose a contractor from Akron, OH to remove damaged portions of concrete and replace with new materials. 2) The company (whose name eludes me) was chosen because they did such a good job repairing damage to the Rubber Bowl after the earth washed out from underneath the south side. OK 2 degrees of seperation However, even then they knew the Rubber Bowls' lifespan was limited!
  7. The Leaking Urinal has never covered Akron teams. It's a real shame. Down here in NC the media in Greensboro and Raleigh cover all the schools including D-II teams. The papers dedicate 2 or 3 pages on sat to cover highschool teams, and give atleast a full page to local and instate colleges. What about the West Side Leader If we can't get coverage, lets go somewhere else. I'm sure they'd appreciate better local stories than sidewalk repair or knitting circles. The local coverage would serve us well and make us an integral part of the community. Thus increasing interest and attendance . It's called captialism.....if they suck, go somewhere else and show them what they're missing.
  8. Owl: No Big Ben in Cleveland Anyone subscribe to Akron Insiders?? I'd like to know if they know what they're talking about; and I'm either too cheap or believe they're full of crap!
  9. End of 1'st Were up 7-0
  10. Not that we shouldn't be able to beat one of the Big10small11's lower teir teams, I'm just wondering, who else in the MAC has beaten tOSU????
  11. "You play to win the Game!" Tony Dungy
  12. Have you been talking to Kit-Kat on the MAC board? You both have illusions of future grandure and a disdain for a conference we have just started to seriously compete in. Kit-Kat would love for Ohio to move to C-USA or form a new BCS conference with some BE teams, but has yet to make a rational arguement for it. He's often quoting the size of Marshall's 40 or 50,000 seat stadium as if that makes their team better. (The've really fallen off this year!) Remember, it's not the size of your stadium but the quality of your team that counts, aka Bowling Green pre-season rank #24. I really can't see Akron moving anywhere, period. We worked too long to get into the MAC and establish a rivalry with Can't. MAC football IMHO is the best all-round mid-major football conference, and we got our a**es pasted when we were an independent. MAC basketball is even better, and the Zips are about to emerge as a top tier team. Where would we go? C-USA deminished greatly with the recent conference realignments. Monetarially and logistically it makes no sense to join a less competitive conference that is so spread out. The Sun-belt is the bottom of the stack, and the other mid-majors are located out west. The only forseable option is the Big East. We could serve as a natural rival to Cincinasty, but I just don't see the BE expanding their football roster, and they have too many bb schools as it is. Then again maybe the Big10little11 will come calling for us to fill that 12th spot! Bottom line, the MAC is the best fit for the ZIPS. We should enjoy the natural geographic rivalries and increasing national exposure this conference provides. I would challenge anyone to "realistically" prove otherwise! JD and better facilities will take this program far, but there's no place like home. the MAC better ingredients better football
  13. First off here is the fight song.. We cheer the Akron Blue and Gold, We cheer as the colors unfold, We pledge anew we're all for you, As the team goes crashing through, FIGHT! FIGHT! We cheer the Akron warriors bold, For a fight that's a sight to behold, So we stand up, and cheer and shout For the Akron Blue and Gold. Secondly, I think this is going to get annoying, I would rather it played after every touchdown, but then again doesn't Purdue do the same thing? I think the whistle thing fits the Akron scheme of rubber plant work whistle. Who knows hopefully the powers that be are reading this message board and doesn't over do it!! 1st How about the WHOLE song, even though it makes it worse than it already is! Akron Blue and Gold We cheer the Akron Blue and Gold, We cheer as the colors unfold, We pledge anew we're all for you, As the team goes crashing through, FIGHT! FIGHT! We cheer the Akron warriors bold, For a fight that's a sight to behold, So we stand up, and cheer and shout For the Akron Blue and Gold. Zzzip! Zip go the Zi--ips! Zzzip! Zip go the Zi--ips! Akron true Gold and Blue, All for you and the Zi--ips too! 2'nd Blasting the fight song over and over and over and over................ really gets annoying. Even at a football game. AKA: Penn State! How about adopting the theme song from "Coach" for JD!
  14. I live in a town with a textile mill that sounds off every morning at 7 sharp. It's a nostalgic yet pleasant sound, and a good choice to rally Akron fans. However, if it's anything like the frikin FOG HORN they blow at the Hurricanes games in Raleigh, it'll suck. Whose bright idea was it to put one of those in an arena in the first place
  15. I think you mean A-holes of Ohio
  16. Haven't heard a thing, but believe it will be located near the field house. Personally I think it would be wise to locate it near the Exchange and Polsky's decks. A good option would be right on top of our new practice field across from the student union. I like the location and potential end zone view.
  17. Never would have thought of that one! Great Find!
  18. GREAT! Now what am I going to do at 1:00 on Wednesday
  19. Thats what I'm talkin bout! Katherine place - It was all fun'n games till the beer ran out!
  20. Thanks Capn'! I figured there had to be one somewhere, I just wasn't able to get over to the hill. There are several "Lidz" stores down here in NC and they do a great job of promoting local institutions. I'm sure I could get my A hat though them. I prefer to try these things on first before ordering over the web, whether it's their site or gozips.com. GP1 relax, reading classes will come in your sophmore year! Community pressence isn't just about sales. Having items in local stores and available to the general public creates presence and attracts passers by who wouldn't scour the WWW or travel down to Spicer Village looking for stuff. How much did the University spend on our new logo and uniforms and why We missed a golden opportunity by not having Charlies #5 available. Those who new, may have bought one. Public seeing the uni generates interest, and they might go to the game to see what the fuss is about. Hell, I'd buy a classic Taylor#33 or Smith#15 while i'm at it. Without these items very few people realize they even played for the Zips!
  21. Kentucky is adding the Zips so they can learn how to win Isn't this the same team that had its' kicked by Ohio
  22. Traveled throughout Ohio a couple of weeks ago while attending an international rhino management workshop hosted by the Columbus Zoo. (Turns out ol' Jack is a zips fan.....well maybe not). While there I stopped in a local mall and found Zips hats! Couldn't belive it. They had a wide assortment of MAC teams incl OH, MOH, BG, Tol, and yes even Can't. Then I travelled up to Akron, and NOTHING Checked out a few mall stores and was repeatedly told, you have to go down to the university to find ANYTHING! I don't get it! If the zips want to increase attendance they will have to increase their presence within the community! Yes, Gozips.com has great merchandise, but where are my blue-roo dog bandanas? What about my A/blue-roo car magnets?? Hell, even where I now live in -F NCarolina the highschools and local soccer teams have those! and some items can be found at our local WallyWorld. I live in the biggest city in the county w/ only 20,000 people, so if rural school districts can do it, why can't the Zips I may be wrong, but if there are other places to find Zips gear I'd like to know for my next visit! Would love to get my brother a T-shirt...... has that been copyrighted?? I love the new merchandise. It's much better than the old running A which was about as stupid as the Temple T Improvements have been made, but we'll have to do better if were going to help JD succede! BTW, as long as I'm ranting, I don't agree that fans of certain teams travel better than others. The VAST majority patrons will always root for the home team, (AKRON@Can't is an exception ) VT at the bowl, Miami at Temple, etc. the fans still didn't show up. The key is to build a fan base, field a competitive team, and host several quality opponents that help you get to a bowl game. From there you build on history and the fans will still come in your lean years (aka Browns). ANY thought out there from the Summit? Our promotions have imropved steadilly since the 90's, I just want more! Go ZIPS!
  23. When ever I'm asked "What do you want?", I reply, a million dollars. Am I going to get it? NO. Have I lost anything? NO. There's little chance my wish will be fulfilled. However....... If I fail to make that wish, it's impossible. So the question is wether you'd have the Zips try for a player w/ BE's potential , or take the next Randy Moss after FSU gets tired of his I hope this combination works out for Charlie. Go #9
