  1. If I’m not mistaken, he’s also a West Coast guy. That may have also played a part.
  2. OL from Northwestern State. Looks like we’re behind the eight ball on this one as he’s already had in home visits from UMASS and Buffalo.
  3. I’m also curious as to why Gilbertson was not in this pic. I’m assuming he was on the road recruiting.
  4. Offers out to JUCO OL Jared Morrow and Liberty transfer DT Kendy Charles. Morrow originally signed with Coastal Carolina out of HS.
  5. Wouldn’t be surprised to see something like that happen. Both portal entries by the RBs were NIL related. Rattler was paid substantially and that spurred Lloyd to look elsewhere in an attempt to find the same kind of money (which didn’t happen). He eventually landed at Southern Cal. Anderson hired an NIL agent who convinced him he can make more money elsewhere and so he entered the portal recently. NIL is playing such a big role at the P5 level. Schools like South Carolina can match a handful of offers any other school throws out there, but then have to be selective with the rest of the athletes. Beamer adjusted his approach this offseason to, in essence, pay top dollar to a few elite HS recruits and be satisfied with missing out on some other 4 star types that have since landed at NC State, Virginia, etc. Those schools gave those particular athletes their top deals. Beamer has also chosen to focus most of the NIL resources towards retention and the portal.
  6. Failure in both recruiting and retention. The starting RBs in back to back years have hit the portal.
  7. We’re probably out of the running with Howell as he is now receiving a good bit of P5 (P4?) interest. He’s currently on a visit to South Carolina and the visit is going well. Gamecocks already signed 2 transfer RBs this week, but want to add a 3rd.
  8. I suspect this one may already be a done deal. Edit: 15 mins after I said that Auburn offered. So we’ll see.
  9. NCAA just “temporarily” reversed course on the one time transfer rule, allowing multiple transfers. Welcome to free agency sans a salary cap. NCAA was a mess before, but now the courts have almost stripped them of authority. Many “amateur” athletes will make more at the college level than as a pro. I expect a pendulum swing to happen at some point, but it’s about to get wild.
  10. No telling how the NCAA decides what is worthy of an exception and what isn’t. Sounds like in this case he’ll have to sit a year unless an exception is granted. Here’s a short article on his journey so far.
  11. The 2nd OL we’ve offered from FCS Stonehill.
  12. OL from UCONN.
  13. CB from Virginia.
  14. DT Devon Robinson in the portal. I thought he was already out of eligibility.
  15. DT from Syracuse.
  16. One of coach Wart’s DTs from New Hampshire coming in for a visit.
  17. Starting Nickel/Safety for Buffalo in 2022 (signed as a JUCO). Transferred to West Virginia and saw action in 2 games. Back in the portal as a grad transfer.
  18. About time we had one of these situations go in our favor.
  19. I imagine he’s fill Corey Thomas role of sliding between Nickel and Safety. Great size and length. Definitely had the production at the FCS level as a CB, which should translate to success here.
  20. 17 transfers out so far (not including a few walk-ons who did not see the field). End of season starters are WR Jasaiah Gathings, S Corey Thomas, OL Nate Williams, CB Tyson Durant. The rest are depth players with varying range of potential. The only incoming portal addition to date (not including JUCO) is OL Laurence Seymore who is already on campus. At the moment, 13 HS prospects and 1 JUCO are publicly committed. WMU has the most portal departures with 18, but Ohio has been hit the hardest in terms of quality. Today marks one week the portal has been open and already over 100 MAC players have entered. Full MAC list can be seen here.
  21. FCS All-American Safety from NC Central.
  22. Western Michigan Safety. Played in every game on Special Teams, 5 games on defense, and started 1 in 2023. Excellent tackler.
  23. Played his way into a P5 gig and probably a little NIL $. Too bad we didn’t get more out of him besides just a year of strong play.
