Great play design and something we’ll probably see next year. On a different note, I’m not so sure it’s coincidence this popped up on my timeline….

I do wonder if Fessler was calling plays in the first half of the season and then had those responsibilities taken away. He’ll certainly receive a pay bump as he was making $110k here and UCLA’s lowest paid position coach made $310k (according to USA Today). Not sure how much cost of living will offset that. Good luck to him. I also think it’s only a matter of time before Wartman, Bell, and Renna are climbing the ranks.

Scratch that. Bailey is retiring from football altogether.

Here you go. HS FILM

That’s interesting. I think maybe he meant Kent State as 1-11? East Carolina and UL Monroe were also 2 win teams. Not sure how Vandy was picked over those two. In any case, curious to see how this plays out.

Thanks! Glad to do it.

Class of '24 Recruits & Verbal Commitments

I like him. He has a lot of size and moves really well. Nimble feet for a guy of his stature. Played mostly RT this past season, but also played some LT. He handled the edge fine at JUCO. My only concern is how he’ll fare against some of the quicker edge rushers he’ll face here. Here are his highlights. Full games can also be found on YouTube. Better JUCO players are available now than ever before due to a heavy emphasis on the portal, so the offers can be a little misleading. Nunnally is a good example of that. If nothing else, I believe Burrell increases the talented depth compared to what we’ve previously had. Also, this makes 4 scholarship OL in and only 2 out. Sounds like we’ll see a few more OL departures at some point. -

Position Preview (and updates) - Offensive Line

Our IOL recruiting has definitely been on the shorter side than our OTs, but most of them seem to have a fairly long reach. I expect to see Blanchard at LT, K. Davis and Seymore at OG, and T. Williams at C. If Chambers returns, he’s probably our RT. Kindred and Shor definitely have more athletic ability and upside, but neither have proven anything at this level. If one of them can claim the RT spot, that should be a substantially better OL than what we’ve seen. I’m still concerned about quality depth for an extended period of time. Would like to see a at least one more portal transfer with experience. I expect we’ll add another HS lineman in the 2nd signing period too. -

It doesn’t really matter until they are enrolled and on campus. There isn't anything binding (that I know of) like a NLI for HS recruiting. -

Not to get lost in the excitement of a QB commitment… -

Here are some highlights against Washington this year. Doesn’t have quite as much natural arm strength or mobility as Bullock and Wasel (still has more than enough), but throws a really nice ball. He made a few boneheaded interceptions in this game, yet also threw some great passes. Fast forward to where Cal is on offense and it goes pretty quickly. -
I was expecting him to announce on Twitter today, but there it is. He committed last night.
-
I wouldn’t worry about that. We have some good news coming today.
-
As of yesterday, no. I think @Hilltopper mentioned there are two on campus this week. I’m not sure who the other one is. I still hope we land Finley.
-
On3 jumped the gun and 247 followed suit. He hasn’t committed. At least not yet.
-
Absolutely. Now let’s hope we land him!
-
Turns out it’s not official. On3 and 247 are piggy backing on each other. We’ll see what happens.
-
Originally committed to Alabama. Transferred to UCONN and saw a total of 6 snaps in 2 years. Talent is definitely there, but the lack of production is concerning. Portal offers from Akron and Kent.
-
Agreed. I thought Chambers seemed solid as a RT, but was sometimes out of his depth at LT. Kindred definitely has more natural ability. I think the HS OL recruiting has been strong and we need those guys to become regular contributors soon. Landers, Williams, and Davis already have (did) from the first class. Would like to think James, Morris, and Mann will do the same in 2024. while Williams and Davis continue to progress. Unfortunately, there’s just no quick fix to the OL. Year 3 should prove to be the best (although that may not be saying much) in JoeMo’s tenure. I think we’re two in vs two out on scholarship OL and have offered over 20 portal OL. So have to think at least a few more guys are on their way out.
