Akron players aren’t getting paid, and if so it’s barely. They would be on food stamps!

With the heat that is forecasted I’ll double down on this and reiterate that the running game will be vitally important. Zips HAVE TO be able to run the ball and keep their defense off the field. Whoever’s defense is on the field the most will wilt in this heat. Zips have to be able to move the sticks some on keep their D on the bench or this game could get out of hand.

On another note. Not sure if this actually means that this will be the uniform this week but if so, I think this would be the first time with this uniform that they will wear the gold helmet with the white jersey and white pants. I believe it’s always been white helmet with this combo?

Nothing is confirmed but all of the tea leaves seem to read that their new portal signee is ineligible and will not be playing. This means that either Broughton (redshirt freshman) or Raggow (redshirt sophomore) will make their first start.

I’d really like to be more optimistic about this game but I just can’t bring myself to do it. It certainly appears that we will be starting a QB that will be making his first college start, away, against a P4 opponent - not a good recipe for success. Combine that with a very suspect defense and it could be a long day for the Zips. The key to this game will be the Zips ability to run the ball. If they can do this it will protect the qb and keep the Wake offense off the field. Even if this happens I still think Wake will have enough big plays to win this game. Wake 31 Akron 13. 😢

I’m sure this is a photo from spring practice - which he was a full participant. Nothing posted showing him since camp opened in August.

I went back through all of the Akron Zips football social media (Instagram, Facebook, and X) posts since camp opened and there is not one photo that shows any quarterback. Take that for what’s it’s worth but don’t you think there would be at least one photo showing your new quarterback?

Not sure this logic makes any sense. So if a kid never sees the field, in theory he could just keep “playing” for seven, eight, nine years?

It’s a shame because he seemed like the first QB that Joe has gotten that truly fit his system - a good passer that was also mobile. Finley was a good passer but not very mobile, Bullock and Irons could run but weren’t good passers.

You make a good point, I guess eligibility is not as clear in today’s world vs several years ago. Having said that, if I was going to invest (money, time, resources, practice reps etc.) in a kid to be my starting quarterback I’d certainly want to know for sure if he’s going to get cleared for his 6th year.

Agree. So much positive momentum around the program right now but now this. I just don’t know how you get to mid August and suddenly realize that a player might be ineligible. At best this is careless, at worst it’s malpractice.

Agree, he’s clueless. He also said that they run mostly 2 tight end sets. They hardly ever run a two tight end sets. This guys is so unprepared and totally pulling crap out of his a**!

If he gets 6 or 7 wins at Akron he’s gone. He will get a head coaching job somewhere else.
