  1. I don’t think these have been noted on here yet. Here’s three more, the line at the exit is getting longer.
  2. I would agree about football being more of an injury risk and playing 15 games is too much but it’s not like the OHSAA is swimming in money and getting rich off football playoff games. From what I heard they are just trying to stay afloat - sounds like Akron’s athletic dept
  3. In Indiana every team makes the playoffs. Why don’t people complain about basketball, baseball or soccer? Every team makes the playoffs in those sports too.
  4. Surprised that he was making that much at OU but it sounds like he’ll probably be making about $1 million at Charlotte - probably a big enough raise to make the move
  5. Maybe the coaching staff told him it might be a good idea to hit the portal?
  6. Heard Chuck Martin is a candidate for the Purdue job. He’s done really well at Miami but that would be a great move for him.
  7. I wouldn’t say it’s common but it’s not totally uncommon either. I think it obviously depends on the player. If it’s someone leaving that they don’t really care if they lose then they would not save that scholarship for them. If it’s someone they really want and do not want to lose then I’m sure they would welcome them back. Having said that, once they enter the portal, they are surrendering that scholarship.
  8. Based on their Twitter accounts it looks like none of the bigger three portal guys (James, Kellen, and Nunally) have received any offers yet. It’s still early, but technically these guys could still come back to Akron if they don’t get the offers they are looking for.
  9. Question: if guys aren’t even technically in the portal yet (until Dec 9) how are they receiving offers? Amd how are schools giving offers?
  10. Actually more than three have hit the portal. I get your point, but this isn’t just an Akron thing. Every team will have several kids hit the portal - it’s the new world of college football.
  11. And none of that revenue will go to the football program. They will still eat the standard cafeteria food, have limited resources, and practice in the dark indoor facility with flashlights.
  12. This has to be so incredibly frustrating for coaches.
  13. Glad you mentioned that. Do you know the new rule and can you explain it? I always thought it was 85 scholarships and 105 roster limit. Are some schools now going to 105 scholarships? If so, what is the new roster limit?
  14. Great info…the major wildcard here is the portal. The minute some kids have some success (whether real or imagined) they want to set off for greener pastures. Sometimes it pays off but sometimes it blows up in their face. I assume there will be some very tough meetings this week between players and coaches. Some players will hit the road on their own and many will be told to hit the road. Buckle up, I think it’s going to be a crazy portal December.
  15. Exactly, a perennial losing program with no student or community support and a bare bones budget. The only guy they could get is someone looking for their first head coaching job - and that might be a stretch.
  16. That alone might make him bite if offered
  17. Just heard during the Ohio State game that Joe Morehead is a top candidate to watch for the Michigan OC job. I really think he is gone unless there are some big changes in the football budget - and I don’t think that is going to happen.
  18. He was very non committal about being back next year and also threw in a couple jabs about the schedule as well as the budget (“or lack thereof”). My guess is that he is going to have a talk with the President and/or the new AD and demand more for the football budget. This could get interesting.
  19. I don’t recall hearing them mention it on the broadcast. Maybe somebody could give the broadcast team a heads up about it so they mention it on the air and show a closeup.
  20. Just found one - glad they did it!
  21. Did not notice it, it must have been really small. Anyone have a photo or screenshot of it?
  22. How about a little helmet sticker honoring Jerry Faust for the last home game? It would be a great way to honor him and a great way to connect him to Akron (for many people nationally that don’t know, or forgot, about his Akron years).
  23. They need to show up next week and play a really good game against Toledo. Obviously a win would be ideal and prove that maybe, just maybe, things are changing but playing them tough is a must.
