Had plenty of things to do in Columbus… Edit: As others have mentioned, there’s plenty of apartments in downtown with vacancy. Give people reasons to be downtown and maybe more people will want to live there. I think we’re all basically saying that, but destroying a unique building doesn’t contribute to that goal. The “Bad News Brian” kid wants to spend his money on renovating the place. Take the win.

You clearly haven’t been to Akron in a long time. No one wants your Applebee’s North Carolina crap in a downtown area. We have Montrose and Howe for that, or we could move to Columbus. Like I said, there are plenty of surface parking lots if you want to build more generic apartments with thin walls and floors. We already have some of those with 22 Exchange, 401 Lofts, and the Depot, but we could use more. We need Quaker to go back to what it was before the University ruined it, and that’s what we may be getting. Something for those who live an hour+ away to have a reason to visit for. Yes, when I was a kid, we lived 2 hours away from Akron and visited Quaker Square as something to do. Anyway, we’re going dancing, so go Zips.

I said most unique, not most iconic. How many buildings have circular rooms? It can be a cool attraction again if done right.

Bulldozing Akron’s most unique building just to slap up some generic apartments is certainly a take lol. The convention center next door to Quaker is begging for more hotel rooms so they can book more conventions. EJ Thomas, Musica, and the Civic also benefit from Quaker being a hotel. As someone who is about to have a wedding in downtown, I can say there really aren’t enough hotel rooms currently between Blu-Tique and the Courtyard. I do agree they need more residents and apartments downtown, but they are converting other downtown buildings to apartments, and there are plenty of surface parking lots begging for new structures.

As someone who lived there when it was a dorm, it was a real pain to walk anywhere but the College of Business and Polsky buildings. It seems the U has a lot more buildable space closer to the center of campus. Hopefully someone can preserve Quaker as a hotel, because Akron could use more hotel rooms downtown. It’s a cool building, too.

Hopefully they cut down on the capacity in this one. I went to a Zips game at Millett last year and there were maybe a few hundred attendees. Capacity had to be over 10k. Looked like an absolute ghost town.

Does anyone know approximately what time we would play in the quarterfinals if we are the #1 seed? I’m assuming the evening, but want to make sure before I buy tickets. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough PTO to use for an all-day MACtion fest this year 😢

With the peanuts we’re making from ESPN, I would hope the conference is not pushed into anything by ESPN.

As most people already guessed: NIU will join the Horizon League for non-football sports. Not surprising given the geography, but surprising that the Horizon would even want these dumb, backstabbing scrubs for all the sports they don’t put any investment in at all.

I guess he wasn’t interested in our AD opening 😕
