  1. Just looking at Cat's list above there's 18 from defense alone that either graduate or have already hit the portal, six on the line out of twenty (thats interior and edges combined) I'm sure Bruno is next. No way Bruno stays. Akron cannot have the money to pay him to stay and he has worked to hard to pass up the money. With Laventure, Madden, and K. Murphy leaving, Zips are losing three of the four interior linemen with any experience. Hull obviously has the most and hopefully they give Mixon the chance to cut loose. Because of the lack of concern to get depth on the line next year Durham and Hull are the only ones returning with experience. Mixon will be returning with 170 snaps, he and Hull are the only two with snaps at all. Dall and Durham played a combined total of 1327 snaps, the twins played combined 292... Cj Murphy is gone, Kam Cheatom is gone, Brown played 14 snaps and Duncan played 8 that is our returning defensive line. Hopefully the freshmen get the chance in spring to show what they can do. There is a lot of size and potential there. Demery-Brown is bigger than any interior lineman on the team last year or this year and Kavals is the same size as Dall. They have some big shoes to fill but hopefully they can do it and Watkins is the same size as Cheatom. Linebackers, James, Boswell, and Reeves might be ready to go... I hope Tibs stays and works with them..
  2. vega and musika are gone, like gone gone and eli reed is hitting the portal
  3. I am sure many of you are much smarter than I am and i openly admit it. This is a pretty good article it is long but to me interesting and I think some of you may find it interesting. Walgren suggested the football team cut three players for poor academics and they didn't and then a fourth who had a gpa of .74 and they did not. It goes into depth for the reasoning and i'm not pointing fingers in agreement or disagreement just saying the article is well written and explains a lot. It also says at the end the ban "could continue into next year" but that is just a possibility. I am relying some of you brainiacs to translate a lot of this for me. I do think Mr Brown did a good job though.
  4. sorry guys. you might be stuck with him ....
  5. guess he was too worried about playing for a retired nfl player like eddie george if he chose joe moe of BG????
  6. If anyone is interested.... I really thought Dall, Gant, and Laventure should have been higher... and I'm surprised Dewalt didn't get mentioned (PFF had Dewalt and Reed has the second and third rated CB's in the MAC) they didn't get mentioned at all. Laventure is the second rated interior lineman in the MAC, Summers the 7th rated linebacker, and Dall the 9th rated Edge rusher AHEAD of Voorhies. White from UMASS is the seventh rated edge rusher in the ENTIRE country and somehow gets second team MAC, make that make sense???) 7. If history repeats itself these freshmen won't see the field this year, they will develop and possibly see the field next year or the next similar to what Dall did. At some point a program is going to have to develop from within. A program is going to have to develop and bring in players from the portal as well... They only brought in seven players, there are still plenty of roster spots
  8. If anyone is interested, Semaj Beals, the QB that commited is playing Friday night at 7 pm in the PA 5A state championshiop: Friday, 7 p.m. at Cumberland Valley HS (TV: PCN Audio Stream: PIAA Radio Network) PA classifies differently than Ohio I think. It goes 1A smallest to 6A the biggest. The article I read talks about Beals' High School and it brings back a lot of starters: "Chief among them is Beals, who is back under center for the Cahillites. The 6-1, 190-pound senior has thrown for 2,581 yards and 36 touchdowns this season, completing just under 65% of his pass attempts. " His top targets are seniors Ash Roberts (49-752, 10 TDs) and Eyan Stead (45-579, 10 TDs) and junior Eisa Nealy (32-479, 6 TDs). Stead and Nealy both saw action in last year's title game. Roman does most of its damage with Beals throwing the ball; the rush attack averages just over 100 yards per game, with sophomore Tre Montgomery (106-548, 2 TDs) leading the way.
  9. i would guess building for the future... hoping that it pays off in a year or two.. 20+ freshman is crazy though. I saw that Akron actually signed more freshman than Penn State probably will never say those words again. I hope it pans out for the Zips. Now all they can do is every year just hope to patch holes with the transfer portal same as every other team but with way less to offer. Todays freshman that go into the major college programs and start are true studs... Maryland started two edge rushers and their qb that were all true freshman and I think I saw they played a total of seven as regulars watch out for them in two years. This year, Zips played McManus and I think that is it. He definitely held his own. I bet he is a stud next season. I know Boswell started but he was a prep player before, Davis got a few snaps at safety and Sivon got a few snaps at wr but thats it. Hopefully the freshman learned and are ready to contribute next year for us.
  10. both guys from Monarch in ft. lauderdale. maybe that's why rigging signed here. 6'4 325 is a big lineman !
  11. only thing I could find on Riggins was that he was top rated, he was considering Minnesota but he was not speaking publicly, however Akron may be top of his list if he was going G 5. Probably playing time. Come in play for one or two years and bounce. Unless you are a true super stud you go to any of those Power 4 schools you aren't seeing the field for two or three years. Come to Akron get on the field right away get that tape and go chase the dollars. Akron is nothing more than JUCO. That's it.
  12. Yay, for him. Maybe he has great success. It's been one year. Little Zips history lesson... J.D. Brookhart 2004-09 (29-43) fired Rob Ianello 2010-2011 (2-11) fired Terry Bowden 2012-2018 (35-52) fired Tom Arthur 2019-2021 (3-24) fired Oscar Rodriguez interim 2021 0-3 It's obvious that Akron WANTS to win at football because they are not afraid to change coaches, I don't doubt that, but they either keep striking out with coaches OR they give up on them when it starts getting rough. Bowden went 8-5 and won the first bowl game in school history and was let go three years later when he went 4-8... It isn't always greener on the other side. Joe Moe has shown improvement each year despite having the odds stacked against him. Things like one less practice a week are a big issue. Not having NIL money is a big thing yet somehow, he still brings in decent talent and is able to compete in the MAC with really nothing to offer except playing time. I just don't understand the urgency to get rid of him when the team has shown improvement. I agree that there were games that could have/ probably should have been won, but nearly every program could say the same thing and there aren't too many undefeated teams still out there. Everyone on here that wants rid of Joe Moe assumes the next guy is automatically going to be better or is going to be the next Ryan Day and what if it isn't? What if it is the next Kenni Burns and it sets the program back ten years??? Joe Moe has steadily improved the program with no money, less staff, less recruiting opportunities, and less practices I would rather see him stay and see what he can do with those things added.
  13. Serious question for all the Joe haters, if joe leaves what are your expectations? for the first three to four years you can't possibly expect to win more than two or three games a season and how much time are you going to give the new coach before you start calling for his removal? The issue with Zips football is not coaching it is not being able to compete financially with other institutions. Football players at akron get 91$ a month, big 10 football freshman players 35k a year. how do u compete with that? i watched a segment on lane kiffin. supposedly LSU is giving him a 25 million dollar war chest just for football. Kansas just got a huge donation from a hedge fund guy named booth for football and they named the stadium after him so now they have a huge war chest for football. the elevators at akron don't work in the dorms, don't work in the parking garages and they get 91$ a month. there are bigger issues than coaching. but honestly, how long do u give a new coach with a new staff and most likely a huge turnover of players because it wont be "his team" for four years of his players?
  14. toledo beat central michigan and miami, oh is about to win i i believe if i heard correctly that means Miami is playing western michigan for the MAC championship because of a tie breaker...
  15. central michigan is about to beat kent state. they are beating them 21-9 with four minutes left that means that central michigan is still in the running for mac championship AND kent will not be going to a bowl. its like yay we beat central michigan still competing for the championship but in the same breath we freaking lost to kent state !!!
