It's no big incentive for the coach, as I doubt he cares much about the negative trash talk that appears on sports forums about every coach in the country, no matter how successful. It goes with the job.But it would be a nice break for ZN.O regulars, who could get along just fine without the hourly reminder that some have dedicated their lives to trashing UA's coach.

Akron vs. Cleveland State

Maybe some will want to foget about the game and just go bar hopping. As for me, I'm just looking for a place near the Convo to get a bite to eat and a beer or two before the game. -
Former 2012 Commit PF Gary Akbar

There just aren't that many tall, skilled, true centers available. Most DI teams, including some of the stronger majors, get by with a 6-9ish power forward playing center. The key is finding one with enough skill and heart to do the job.We should savor every minute Zeke is on the floor in a Zips uniform, as the odds of UA getting a commitment from another player with his combination of skill and size are really small.Having said that, the Zips could do really well in the future if they could land the right 6-9ish power forward, play him at center, and surround him with the right teammates. With the caliber of players KD has been recruiting lately, this is not an unrealistic expectation. -

True centers with DI potential are a rare breed. I sure hope KD can find one. But the odds are against finding Zeke II. -

Thanks for your input, Magnus. If you come to Akron for the CSU games, I'm sure we can help you find watering holes to consider as well as those to avoid. -

Winking Lizard is exactly .5 mile from the Wolstein Center -- less than a round-trip walk from the JAR to Infocision Stadium and back.I figure it would be safe to go as a group with Captain Kangaroo leading. If anyone threatens the group, CK can threaten back that he has the power to kick them off his internet forum if they don't abide by his unwritten rules. Meanwhile, the rest of us can be proactively running to find the police to help save the lives of those who'd dare to challenge CK. -

Otto Moser's is exactly .3 mile from the Wolstein Center. For perspective, that's the same distance as walking from the JAR to Infocision Stadium.Anyone who has a problem with walking that distance may be in need of medical attention. And, contrary to Hilltopper's assessment of my age, I have no problem walking many miles. -
I do like ESBs. I'll give the Schafly a try if I ever run across it. Thanks for the tip.

Pale ales and IPA are about all I drink, but I've never tried that one. We're fortunate to have one of the world's great pale ales brewed close to home. Where Beer Advocate gives Schlafly Pale Ale a B, Burning River from Great Lakes gets an A. Burning River is a regular in my fridge.Beer Advocate

Great quotes. I'd seen many, but not all, of them. If he were only alive today, he'd be the star of Comedy Central. He and Mae West left big impressions on me as a kid when I watched their old movies on TV. -

Otto Moser's is sounding better and better.First, it's only .3 mile from the Wolstein Center.Second, it's a deli, and I like delis.Third, W.C. Fields ate there, and I like W.C. Fields.Fourth, it's the oldest restaurant in Cleveland (established 1893), which means it hasn't lost any lawsuits related to customers being killed by food poisoning.Fifth, they have a full bar, including a good selection of beers. There are many places located between the Wolstein Center and the Q.If you use Bing Maps to get walking directions from the Wolstein Center to the Q, it says the distance is .8 miles. That means that a place located .4 mile east of the Q is going to be .4 mile west of the Wolstein Center. So it's entirely possible that there are places that people have walked to from the Q that would be roughly the same walking distance from the Wolstein Center. So, for example, it appears that Otto Moser's is .5 mile east of the Q and .3 mile west of the Wolstein Center. The Winking Lizard is about .2 miles east of the Q and .6 miles west of the Wolstein Center.Mardi Gras Lounge is about .75 mile north of the Wolstein Center.Bing Maps Walking Route from Wolstein Center to Q -

No, I've never been to the Winking Lizard. Have I missed one of life's great experiences? I'm OK with any place that has a minimum of a decent burger and a beer selection that includes at least one IPA.If Peabody's is out, the next closest place is at least 4 blocks away. Many, including the Winking Lizard, are more like 5-6 blocks away (about a half-mile walk).Below is a link to "What's Nearby" the Wolstein Center on Bing Maps so everyone can count the blocks to the various establishments.Bing Maps -

Searching Bing Maps online, the only really close bar/grill/tavern is Peabody, a block north of the Wolstein Center. The next closest places are 5-6 blocks east -- Bricco, Rathskeller, Wilbert's, Becky's, Local Heroes Grill and Bar, Winking Lizard Tavern, Otto Moser's Restaurant, Winsor's, and Clevelander Bar and Grill.Bricco is the only one I have experience with, having eaten several times at the Akron location. They have a nice menu and a decent selection of wine and beer.Anyone have any experience with any of the other joints? -

I'll be there. Always nice to be able to add a short-drive away game to the home schedule, especially in a nice facility against a tough opponent.Maybe we can have an official Zips bar/restaurant for food/drink before/after the game as we do for the MAC tournament. -

Before the tOSU scandal broke, AD Gene Smith, a former member of the NCAA infractions committee, was asked by CBS Sports how to penalize a school when the wrongdoers -- coach, players -- have departed."It's still an institutional issue," Smith said. "At the end of the day, the institution has to suffer." That was then. What about now? How would he react if the NCAA imposes sanctions on tOSU beyond what tOSU has self-imposed?"I'll be shocked and disappointed and on the offensive," Gene Smith said last week. "Unless something new arises from where we are today, it'll be behavior [from me] you haven't witnessed." Cleanup of college football needs to start in Columbus -

It doesn't only apply to the news we choose to watch. It applies to all human interactions. We all have the option to either seek out and consider other points of view that may conflict with our own personal belief systems, or try to shut out and shut down other points of view that have the potential to cause us to reconsider our positions.America's greatness is deeply rooted in diversity. Yet some people think their own personal belief systems are the only ones that qualify one to be a "true American." -

Talking politics is for idiots.
Dave in Green replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
It's pretty simple, really. Some people listen to the news to have their belief systems reinforced and some listen to the news to have their belief systems challenged. If you're open-minded, you want to constantly be exposed to all viewpoints and continuously question whether or not your belief systems are sound. If you're close-minded, you want to shut out all viewpoints except the one you've bet the farm on. -

If that Columbus Dispatch article is true, it's a fascinating documentation of how the siren song of football fame can lead an institution of higher learning astray. In so many words, the story documents how Tressel was seriously admonished for shortcomings by one athletic director, and then allowed to slide under the radar by the new athletic director, who effectively ended the paper trail. Yet every other coach and executive at tOSU continued to be evaluated on paper, and their trails can be traced in detail from their personnel files. Why would the football coach be exempt from this? Tressel had a documented problem of reporting violations in a timely manner, and the powers at tOSU had a choice of trying to resolve the problem or cover it up. Did tOSU make football success a higher priority than integrity? Had football success become more important to tOSU's public image and fund-raising than education? If this is all true, it is the very definition of loss of institutional control, which would result in the severest of penalties from the NCAA. -
Former 2012 Commit PF Gary Akbar

MaxPreps lists him at 215 lbs. If true, entering his senior year in HS he's already heavier than Zeke was as a freshman at UA.MaxPrepsMaxPreps also lists Akbar as a center/power forward in its Dunbar HS basketball preview:MaxPrepsSince no one on here has actually seen the guy play, we're really flying blind on trying to determine what position he'll be best suited for in college. For example, the projections of Akbar as a small forward in college ignores the fact that he had zero 3-point attempts last season. A small forward who can't shoot 3s is pretty limited offensively. He also shot about 45% from the free throw line, which may indicate he doesn't have much accuracy from mid-range. He also only shot a little over 40% from the field. His most impressive HS stat is rebounding at 8.9 per game, which is more indicative of a 4 than a 3.If he's really 6-5, 215 entering his senior season of HS, it's not unrealistic to think he could add 2 inches and 20 pounds before his first game at UA.
