Do the refs get tendinitis from throwing the flag so often when the Zips play?
-
TD Bostick (and converted the PAT). The Zips are being competitive! (in the 1st qtr., vs a mediocre FCS team )
-
i think we went for 2 and had a penalty, then tried to kick the PAT and missed. 6-0 Zips.

I still don't understand why you field a punt inside the 10 yard line. Let it bounce into the end zone and start on the 20.

http://www.akronnewsnow.com/news/local/ite..._medium=twitterNow that he got a $20K raise, maybe he can take 10 minutes to record a short video thanking Zips fans for their perserverence ... or at least delegate it to YouTube Tom.

TW is one thing, but Dr Proenza seems like he does not care. That's what disappoints me the most. At this point, he needs to show his face to what Zips fans there are and make a statement of some sort. In fact, he should be standing at the Infocision entrance this Saturday personally thanking all those who show up. Hiding is not leadership.

Second round of conference expansion is beginning.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/19/sports/n...tors_picks=trueKind of ironic, if not funny. The BCS wants to get out from under the NCAA but in the process may be inviting involvement from Congress. -

Some of you need to understand something. We may have no choice in the matter. It may not be us dropping. It may be us getting dropped by the BCS level schools wheny they start their own division. There are a limited number of schools with a limited number of scholarships at the BCS level. If a player wants to play college football and all of the scholarships are taken up at the BCS level, he'll have to go somewhere. Our division would be the next best thing. It's already happening. With all that is going on in college football, change is needed. Either we make the change with like schools or we get handed the change. Better to make your own change than allowing someone to make changes for you.If the BCS schools leave the NCAA, who knows if the scholarship limit will remain intact. If they bump it back up to 120, us "smaller programs" will be doubly hosed. Greed is alive and well so I would expect it to happen. -

Well, he obviously received a lot of blowback on his forced-merger plans but I tend to agree that 4 large universities in 1/4 of the state misses out on some synergies (and BTW, I wouldn't reduce nursing student headcount, just standardize the curriculum & maybe move it into the medical U...seems like further synergies would be available for nurse-practitioner & nurse-anesthetist programs). At the risk of creating a new directional school, you would have UNEO, UNEO-Akron, UNEO-Can't, UNEO-Cleveland and UNEO-Youngstown; each separate and each with the option of spinning programs off into the "parent" U (for appropriate compensation). The UNEO programs could still be hosted on the various member campuses so they would be close to the students and you wouldn't have to build another big campus. Sorry, but in the absence of interesting football, I have to play SimUniversity

There ought to be a way to create a separate, consortium university for UA/Can't State/csu/ysu, like the medical school, to eliminate duplication of general studies and similar undergrad majors like arts & sciences, education, nursing, etc., while maintaining separate campuses/identities/centers-of-excellence. Students could still graduate from the U of their choice or the shared U (University of Northeast Ohio?). Then it would be nice if certain lesser sports could be combined under the consortium (does NEO need 4 baseball teams, golf, tennis, etc.?) The combined UNEO sports programs could either join the MAC as a separate entity, or possibly another conference.

There were probably 10 games delayed last week for lightning. Oh well, it's nothing to take chances on. I wonder if the fans went back out to tailgate some more??

Who is the other Zips radio announcer?
-
Gilliam is absolutely huge. Not only is he 6-5, but he's a completely chiseled 235 lbs.OL? DL? TE? LB? FB? WR? Can he chuck a football with some accuracy? Can he kick?
-
Is that supposed to be Zippy's arms broken off and stuffed in the pouch? Appropriate in regards to football maybe, but still a bit goofy (as are most of the others)

5,400+ attendance at #6 Creighton home opener. We may be seeing them again.. http://www.omaha.com/article/20110904/BLUE.../110909869/1001

When struggling to put a watchable football team on the field, they could focus more on other aspects of the gameday experience so there is still some entertainment value. Beef up the marching band, bring in some live entertainment acts for tailgating or postgame, have fireworks, amusements for the kids, etc. I agree with keeping a 'respectable' face value on the tickets but they could put out discount coupons or sell discounted blocks to ticket dealers in order to get people to show up and have decent attendance numbers. If there is at least a crowd there will be corporate sponsorship opportunities to help offset costs.

UA gets a mention in the current Popular Science. Apparently the Geology Dept. has a cave science lab that's fun to work in.

+1. This smacks greatly of athletics marketing Can't wait to see what the new trophy looks like.
