We're not going back to I-AA. The Admin is committing to a new $60M stadium on top of $300M in academic facilities, an excellent fieldhouse, practice fields, softball field, etc. Yes, it's taken a long time to reach this point but give it a couple more years to see the transition to the new stadium and see what kind of crowds turn out then. Of course the first couple of seasons all the sight-seers will come and it will be crucial to get them involved and want to keep coming. As soon as that happens the drive will begin for a new or upgraded hoops arena and if/when that comes to fruition within 5-6 years, along with the improved recruiting & attendance, we will be on par with any program outside of the exalted BCS conferences. That is our mission, to forge ahead and outshine Can't, not relapse to YSU status.

All I know for sure is that if the U takes some properties by e/d the owners will run screaming bloody murder to the media which will in turn sensationalize the story for all the money they can make off it. Then UA will have another reason to be despised by those who already do...even though the economic development is the best thing that could happen for the city.

The Toledo Blade scooped the ABJ by 2 days on a Zips story...why am I not surprised?

This guy is a loser on so many levels. He wants to have a football blog but he wants someone else to write the reviews for him. Then when he has to write it himself, rather than sticking to football he feels the need to ridicule nicknames, stadiums, mascots, etc. I guess the Bengals should be ridiculed because bengal tigers are from a different continent. MRasor should stay far away from that rag. The point that the comparison with Vick was at the HS level is well taken.

Needlessly demeaning of Akron & the MAC, probably to compensate for self-esteem issues of the author. To be disregarded or else print it out to line your bird cage.

I don't remember the reason either. Is there some law against a campus station broadcasting sports? The absence of commercials would not bother me as a listener, altho UA could air their own spots audibly to a 10-county region of potential students/athletes which IMO would be worth more to them than the little ad revenue they're currently getting.

Maybe he didn't want to play 2nd fiddle to football at KS-St. & figures he can overshadow it at a basketball conference school.

any basketball players participating in spring drills?

wow, i am saddened to hear that...I didn't even know and I've been a big Maynard fan since seeing/hearing him light up EJ Thomas Hall a few times. I just figured I would hear it in the news when he went, but of all places on zipnation.com! A tribute show would be very appropriate and I'm sure a number of bands will do that this fall now that there's been some time to prepare. He was a real advocate of getting youngsters into music and jazz and he will be missed. RIP, MF

Looks like Hipsher may be unemployed again...

Coleman is Head Coach at Richland Community College in Dallas. After he and Steve Robinson were fired by Florida St., he was Asst Coach at SMU for a couple years (again, HC fired), then he coached a minor league (ABL or something) team in Dallas before taking his current position.Regardless of his success or lack thereof as Akron HC, Coleman is one of the most respected coaches of post players, as well as the nicest guy I've ever met in the profession.Hope he gets back to D-1. thanks for the update -

iirc, dh is a bgsu alum and they were interested in him while he was having success at akron, but he wanted to stay at akron so they got dakich instead.where is coleman crawford these days? -
Next they'll probably get a mascot that looks a lot like Zippy. Maybe they'll call and ask for one of our used costumes. Does our Intellectual Property dept. know about this?

Wait til you see/hear it at the new stadium...on campus.I'd be against the tire drum idea...the Rubber Capital days are behind us and it hasn't been an ongoing tradition for us.

JT the Brick rips on Miami Redhawks, MAC

So why even have a post-season NIT? None of those schools won their conference tournaments so why should they still be playing? But if there's going to be a 2nd tourney for the "2nd tier" of schools, selected by a committee with their own agenda, why not a 3rd tourney or any number of them (like we have any number of bowl games in football) and let them invite who they want and let the teams accept the invitation they like best. The big dance will always be the main event but at least the fans and players of the other schools would get to participate in the post season as a reward for having a good season, it doesn't just have to be about national exposure. And if the lesser BCS schools would humble themselves to play in the mid-major tourney, I wouldn't have a problem with that either. -
Jim Christian, Stan Joplin...

Roo Rally? If we had a true "show band" (think historically-black colleges) our attendance would increase by probably 50%. A lot of people would come out to see that and they could give a full-length post-game show as well as halftime. But to have the talent and commitment necessary to field a band of marching athletes like that there would have to be some significant scholarship money involved but it would be a great investment in the football program, IMO.

That would be nice but I don't think the NCAA would add another round to the big dance...it would make the brackets pretty unwieldy. Either the NIT should expand to 64 teams or another tournament should be created, the Mid-Major Invitational. It could be either strictly non-BCS or open to all. In fact it could compete directly with the NIT for the best teams it could get. There would be no automatic bids. Akron and the MAC should start pushing for some kind of change like this to the status quo. Hell, we could host the finals at Cleveland. The NCAA would probably try to squash it so there would have to be a legal/antitrust battle but I think enough "small schools" would put up some money, after all, notice has been served to all the "small conferences" that even 26 wins is not enough to avoid being snubbed for post-season play. -
Wow, he answered 13 whole questions, he must be exhausted. Pretty lame for ESPN.

it's just an online chat (text messages)...click the link in the previous post and you will see.

not unlike our games with Miami...

Seriously. Fires on campus in NE Ohio are always a bad thing. Be safe & legal. This story can still have some traction nationally and bring pressure to bear on the NCAA/NIT and bring us some notice for 26 wins with narrow losses. I've never heard of anyone doing a bracket burning before and it would go over well in the media if done properly.
-
If you start a fire on campus you will get some media coverage I thought that wasn't allowed until May Day tho

Angry fans will vent and say harsh things but as Associate Commissioner of a D1 conference you have to take the high road and maintain professionalism in your response...this is very disappointing. Is he next in line for the top job if Chryst leaves? If this is the type of leadership we have in the MAC it's no wonder we get no respect from the NCAA. Very amateur.

Is it crying if you have a legitimate point? We were a 1-point (Hail-Mary) loss, three 2-point losses and one 3-point loss from having 31 wins, just through the end of the conf. tourney.
