  1. Yahoo Sports (Wetzel):http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/news?slug=dw...=yhoo&type=lgns"6. Then again, if you think that's bad … Do you remember the incredible finish Saturday when Miami (Ohio) hit a buzzer-beating, bank-shot three to win the Mid-American Conference's automatic bid? The team it beat was Akron, which won the MAC's East Division title, went 26-7, had an RPI of 67 and didn't even get a bid to the NIT. Akron was just the third team to ever win 26 games and not get into the NCAAs. Not that anyone was arguing for the NCAAs. But not even the NIT? Even with a RPI better than 13 other selected teams? I know everyone says no one cares about the NIT, but I thought that was a figurative statement, not literal. Of course, the NIT was bought by the NCAA a few years back, so I guess we should have expected it to go to pot. The selection committee is stocked with the oldest boys' network you could ever dream up – C.M. Newton, Dean Smith, Gene Keady – so maybe everyone slept through the meetings. If NIT at-large bids are just going to be handed out to schools with political connections to a committee that isn't paying attention, then the entire tournament should just be disbanded. "

  3. The shot went up with about 1.3 seconds left. If the clock had started .6 seconds earlier as it should have he still would have gotten it off in time. I guess there is no way to replay from the time of the mistake so the .6 seconds that should have elapsed but didn't were added back to the clock. It doesn't help though if you can't throw an inbound pass.We missed some FT's but we also threw up some crappy rushed shots from outside. I think MU's defense and slowdown style frustrates us into doing that. If we truly had some depth we could full court press, wear them down and get some turnovers & fast breaks...their game is the halfcourt, fast-passing, find the open guy and catch us flat footed on defense. If you want to force the opponent into a faster tempo you have to play some full court defense & not let them just walk it up the floor and skillfully execute their half court game, am I wrong about that?
  4. If you would rather see the game in person than at a bar and don't already have tickets, I would assume there will be some scalper tickets available at the gate since it's sold out and I doubt they would cost that much either...just go a little early.

  7. It shows you the power of the home court advantage. We've been very close in all of our road losses...these teams won't be quite as tough on the neutral court in Cleveland. If KD stays loose and keeps preaching to the guys to believe in themselves and fight for 40 minutes (plus OT) we'll be OK. It was also tough getting that first football but we did it.
  8. The total points scored in the Miami @ Akron game was 106 and your total is 110; nevertheless I will take the Over-110 tonight. Maybe we'll have our first overtime game which might actually be good experience come tourney time.
  9. I like when he appears on 'Jackass Number Two'I was more shocked to see JT in the movie than any stunts they did !What did he do in JA#2? (hopefully not shooting fireworks out of his arse ) I know he wants to be a movie star but had no idea he was in that one. Did he decide whether to retire from the Fins yet?
  10. at the JAR at 7:00. A good chance for our 3rd MAC win since we only lost by 6 at Oxford earlier this season. We need it after consecutive blowout losses on the road at BGSU and Can't. Looks like both audio and video will be available on Zips Zone so as a subscriber I will get a chance to see the women in action. I should even be able to stream the mens game at the same time, I think. Go Zips, give the Hawks a big double L tonight !
  11. I guess people can read about him any number of places. BTW, why are we using IWS signs?

  13. There is some kind of rating system associated with it. If you check out the link, we're actually part of a "bottom 10" Apparently they're ranked by average score rather than total votes. The old "moving A" had the lines thru it to suggest movement, like CMU's (which they still use). The lines were removed around the time LO arrived, I guess to "clean it up", at which time our gold color also turned to egg-yolk yellow. BGSU fans would be shocked and appalled to see their beloved 'classic' falcon-head logo on this bottom 10 list At least they're in good company w/Pitt.
  14. yes.
  15. W. Mich. would say we have. A better question is how did the Zips lose at Athens?
  16. It doesn't matter. We're capable of losing to any MAC team at any stage of the tourney if we're not ready. We need to be able to beat 3 consecutive fired-up MAC opponents, away from friendly JAR Arena, in the MAC tournament...until we do that we're nuthin special.
  17. Cleveland. March 4-10.
  18. The U. is doing major renovations to the perimeter offices/classrooms of the JAR so it won't be plowed under or gutted to expand the arena. There would have to be a different option.I doubt if Outback Steakhouses would have much interest in sponsoring a mid-major arena in Akron, Ohio...maybe in Texas they would. In fact we would probably have to pay them to use that name. I like the creative thinking though and I wouldn't be opposed to removing the Rhodes name/connection, given the local history.
  19. So Toledo has one of the smallest seating capacities in the MAC at 26K but they have 40 suites which bring in $1.2M revenue per year allowing them to carry the 2nd largest football budget at $800K/yr...I think that's where we're going...One of the study group member comments was that it is less desirable to overbuild than to have a little less capacity than demand. And another was that the place needs to look full and feel full...which we usually did not have at the RB.Thanks for finding this, Zipsrifle...is there a path to that page via the main uakron.edu site?
  20. Pacific time is 3 hours behind us so the 7pm EST start time would be like 4pm for your guys. In fact they could sleep in their own beds Thu. night, board the plane Fri. morning and arrive at Rhodes Arena in Akron at just about the right time to get ready for the game. Then if they stayed overnight in Ohio they could take in the NFL HOF in Canton or the Rock/Roll HOF in Cleveland on Sat. before jetting back. I'll leave the synopsis of our team/season to someone else but since we'll be at home it should be a hum-dinger of a barn-buster. Good luck (little bit)
  21. (from gozips.com...) Niki McCoy (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) had 20 points and nine rebounds and the Zips overcame a second-half deficit to come away with a 66-58 win at Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Akron reaches the .500 mark at 5-5
  22. Thanks for the info Big D. The Zips are going off as a 1 to 1.5 point favorite on the road. That's cool that your league provides free video of the games...myself, I'm paying for audio only
  23. So at least 6 linemen...lookin good !
  24. Nice. Have Mack & Luis seen this one, I hope?http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A9iby4Dpk3dFwAcA...try/Stadium.jpg
  25. (Posted Wednesday)http://www.footballscoop.com/scoop.htmCincinnati scoop: add J.D.Brookhart of Akron to the list. Connections with the AD. Also add Louisville's defensive coordinator Mike Cassity
