old dominion football season tix..1st season in decades
UA Fan replied to mivid12's topic in Akron Zips Football
They should move up to 1-a and start beating up on Va Tech. -
Well, we did talk on here about having a wagon wheel presence at the Info, so they *are* watching ZN.o It might also have something to do with a lack of championship and bowl-win banners to display

IT'S GAME WEEK! Here's some more bulletin board material:http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dufres...0,5783425.storyWe are first base on PSU's "patsy grand slam"

I have high hopes for our FR long snapper. And we'll need to make our PAT's to eke out the win against PSU

It was probably a large factor. He's been involved in the process of building a stadium and planning for its opening season(s). Which would also translate well to planning/building a new arena. Of course you could say the same for Yuracheck. Rasor had a source and it seems as though he was set up. Maybe it really was Y. and something blew up at the last minute? I'd expect Y. to take the next AD job he's offered, even at a lower division. Is it pronounced like Wist(e)rcill or Wistr(a)cill? At 39 y.o. his career is on a high/fast trajectory.

There are well over 2400 colleges and universities in the US so this puts us squarely in the top 25%. Does jupitertoo know about this?

Credit where due...looks like they did a nice job with the Game Day Central site (especially the stadium photo). I would just suggest including the HS games in the stadium events section for informational purposes.

#3 Akron vs. #11 South Florida (exhibition)

I think we got off easy as well. The Info will be a great place for years to come as Minnesota intended for their stadium. They intended to do it right and they have. Also we like other schools began planning the improvements before the economic downturn but refused to scale back efforts because of the economy. The bottom fell out in October of 2007 and UofA dedicated an additional $6.6 million in December 2007 to do it right with brick facades. In addition, Minnesota like Akron also had to build a new stadium because of the dilapidated metro dome facility. Basically we are a mirror image of what Minnesota did just on a smaller scale. Thus we are a mid-major school trying to gain an advantage in marketability through capital improvements during an economic downturn. That is the basis of the article. The size and potential impact of what the University of Akron is doing dwarfs all other efforts put forth by non BCS schools. 1.6 million on a scoreboard is peanuts and is a loose tie to the purpose of the article. Who cares about new tennis courts and resurfaced tracks. Akron is doing it all and doing it better. ESPN is the number one name in sports journalism. They should have at least mentioned both of the two brand new facilities set to open this year. Will the Louisiana Tech scoreboard, tennis courts, and track look good on tv this year?Minnesota's stadium pics...now that's a scoreboard !http://stadium.gophersports.com/multi_photo_gallery.html

"Nothing is impossible with the Info"

The TV announcers would be almost as giddy with the name Bolt for a WR as they were with Reggie Corner as a CB

So you're taking the Zips plus 28 points?

A couple of sellouts are very likely so I guess it will be used before the grass takes root...will the new sod hold up to the wear and tear? The original preferred plan was to plant grass but it wouldn't have been ready yet either. After going to the open house and seeing the angle of the slope, I don't think it's going to be comfortable to stand for very long like the Rowdies do for soccer...probably just for goal line stands and trying to jinx opponents field goal attempts.

4 touchdowns...wow. I would not bet a lot of money on the lions to cover that spread.Where would you put the spread? The spread is where it needs to be to attract roughly equal amounts of money on both sides, so the losers pay off the winners and the bookies just keep their commission. Unfortunately, I would not bet a lot on the Zips either; we're just too much of an unknown. It's a good game to leave alone, IMO.

Was there a private donation? Or an allocation from the UA budget?I can only assume each sousaphone goes for a couple thousand dollars. Those will look great on the field, whether gold or silver.I guess there was no band forum to file this under, huh?

But the coffee is cheaper than anywhere else I know of.

Internationally, 'soccer' is called 'football' (makes sense, it's played with the feet...what we call football could more aptly be named 'gridiron' or some such). The term "American football" is used to distinguish our game from soccer but I think in this case the webmaster is referring to "soccer in America". Apparently he somehow caught wind of Infocision stadium and mistakenly perceived it as a soccer stadium. However, I think we should play along and have it included on his site with Wembley and all the other great stadiums of the world

I have to relate my recent experience. I met up with a friend I hadn't seen in quite a while to catch up on things. He went elsewhere for his undergrad degree and later went to UA for grad school; now he makes good money in the medical field. His kid went to UA and wasn't eligible for financial aid grants, just loans and as a result came out with more debt than I ever thought a UA student would amass. I expressed my surprise and then he went on to decry the hefty tuition increases of recent years and that UA is spending so much money on amenities unrelated to education (rec center/fieldhouse, new student center, etc.) "just so they can try to attract more students". Then he threw a minor hissy fit over the fact that they're spending "hundreds of millions" on this palace of a stadium which of course is being paid for out of students tuition dollars, and why? "This is UA, they'll never be Ohio State. We're not talking about the Buckeyes, we're talking about the A-k-r-o-n Z-i-p-s" (dripping with sarcasm).Well, I just listened politely and was more amused than annoyed, knowing what UA is accomplishing and the reactions it's causing among the uninformed. As UA raises its standing people will be confronted with it more and more and become confused->angered. I too am surrounded by tOSU devotees, especially family, who think everyone else should be one too, even if they went to another Ohio school, and equate MAC sports with Div. III. It's a fun time to be a Zip.

Is there a trick play JD can concoct to take advantage of a LONG SNAPPER'S insane vertical? Just have him play that silly rover position and jump up and down behind the line on pass plays. And special teams...he could block some kicks and punts !

Why the green plexiglass facing on the tower? I'm not sold on that look.

nevermind...let's hope for the best...

I thought they said it would be too slippery.I don't know who "they" are, but I remember posting somewhere that sod only takes two to three weeks to root.I would be a little amazed to see fans on it this year. It already looks AWESOME! I love it.I don't know about slippery...I think the issue was with sodded grass roots not growing deep enough to anchor it sufficiently into the soil below. As of June 29 per MRasor's blog they were still planning to seed so they're obviously having to fly by the seat of their pants a little bit and take some chances:The south end, of course, is where the scoreboard will sit. There will be a large grassy student area between the field and scoreboard. They chose to plant grass seed, rather than sod, because planting seed makes for a more durable surface on a slope. The students also will sit on the south side of the bleachers. The university has allocated 5,500 seats for students, and also the endzone grass. It's first come, first serve.Previous posts in this thread indicated they had already slurry-seeded the end-zone(?)

I haven't heard one way or another if they will sod or seed. One thing I do know is that you don't seed in August without one heck of a watering system in NEO. You can begin to seed in September and grass will grow into November in NEO.They could have seeded it over 2 months ago!I have planted grass in late spring before.Hell, even if it's not lush, it would have been thick enough to take a couple of saturdays worth of wear in the fall. There is no reason not to have tried to plant grass on there in April when it was graded. Even if it wasn't thick enough to seat people, at least it would have been nice and green for games instead of dirt city. What would that have been? $500 worth of seed? Oh noez were over budget nowz!epic failNew grass takes more than a few months to mature before it's ready for hundreds of Rowdies jumping around on it and it's better to seed in the fall. Not an epic fail. Let's give them some credit for getting the stadium built in a year and a half, on time and on budget. The Rowdies will make their presence felt just fine in the student section this fall.
