  1. 1. Zips -1.5 (or 2) at Can't. flushes have to stop getsy/harvey/arthur/kennedy while our defense is "nearly-proven". I like the Zips' chances to win and cover a couple points.2. CMU +8 at Kentucky. Chipps are still a little under the radar and should make this a close game.3. Toledo +16.5 at Pitt. Can the rockettes stay within 3 scores of the panthers? quite possibly.
  2. When was the last time Akron beat both Miami & BG in football in the same season? Can't is obviously better than expected but I'm more afraid of us beating ourselves if we make mistakes or don't improve from week to week in all phases of our game. It looks like we have been a bit too hasty in writing off Can't State as our rival...this is a huge one still in the first half of the season. It's probably a good thing we didn't play them earlier ... we may have been caught off guard.
  3. 2nd half wasn't pretty but it's the home win we needed. We'll have to play 4 tough qtrs next week. Beat Can't !
  4. Domonkos hits the upright on FG attempt...at least he was close.Getsy is doing a good job of not forcing throws into coverage. I'll take a sack over an INT if the receivers are covered.
  5. I haven't seen any camera shots of the home side stands. It seems like the crowd is decent but not great. I'll guess between 10-15k.Just need to keep it rolling early in the 3rd quarter, then get some backups in for evaluation & to get some game experience, including QB. Sounds like the rain has held off so far.
  6. 78 & 79 yard kickoff returns now for Harvey. TD pass to Poindexter and PAT is good
  7. Awesome 1 handed TD catch by Harvey with a DB right on him. Another missed PAT 26-0 Zips
  8. and we have video, with the French & Co. radio announcer crew. Cool.Nice opening "drive" Zips !!
  9. audio feed sounds great...one down, one to go...
  10. After 2 rounds, against some pretty elite schools:Fin. School Scores1 Akron, U. of 273 286 5592 St. John's Univ. 280 281 5613 Marquette University 285 279 5644 Binghamton Univ. 279 286 5655 Hartford, U. of 284 294 578 Winthrop University 289 289 5787 Columbia University 287 292 579 Seton Hall Univ. 293 286 579 Princeton University 286 293 579 Connecticut, U. of 283 296 57911 Hofstra University 287 298 58512 Iona College 288 298 58613 Pennsylvania, U. of 292 296 58814 Harvard University 297 293 59015 Temple University 290 305 59516 St. Thomas Aquinas 302 295 597
  11. I'm all for expandable to 50k but can you imagine a crowd of 50,000 converging on the corner of Exchange & Brown streets on a game day? There wouldn't be enough places to park within walking distance. Exchange St would be clogged and Route 8 would be backed up for a couple miles with that many cars waiting to get off at the exits. It would be cool to see that many fans at a Zips home game, it's just hard to envision the logistics at that location. And they want to shoehorn in several more "multi-use complex" buildings around the new stadium...I think space/location constraints as well as budget are being factored into the stadium size here.
  12. That video link has been on gozips.com/zipszone since early in the week. I just assumed if there was no local TV broadcast then N. Texas must be carrying the game and z/z would use their production...now I'm getting nervous it may be a mistake. I was looking forward to watching the Zips online again. Now I see they've added an audio game link. If it comes down to that I sure hope the sound quality is better than last week. I wonder if anyone called 1350AM (flagship) to complain about that so they'll get it right this time around.
  13. If I read it correctly, they plan to enhance all the perimeter office space around the JAR so apparently there is no intention of a major re-do/expansion of the arena itself
  14. It's way too early to be talking about bowls yet. We're 1-2 with almost all of our MAC schedule ahead of us. Here's a prediction: the Can't game won't be easy, the Miami game won't be easy and the OU game won't be easy. But I believe in JD to keep this team working hard and getting better and we know from last year that if we do that good things can and will happen.Go Zips...Rebound !
  15. Central Michigan Coach Brian Kelly“...... and then being able to run the football in the last few minutes when they were expecting us to run it was important as well. We were able to chew up a lot of clock and shrink the football game."On the last scoring drive for the FG:“We ran it even though they loaded the box on us, and if we were going to throw it, it was going to be high percentage plays.”
  16. The Chippewas have won eight of the 12 meetings during MAC play (since 1992) and five of the last six in the series.• Akron’s string of 46 games without allowing an INT return for a touchdown was snapped in the second quarter. Prior to today, an opponent had not run an INT back for a score since Sept. 21, 2002 (Virginia).• Akron’s 95-yard scoring drive in the third quarter was its second scoring drive of the season that went for 90 or more yards (96- at N.C. State).• Of Akron’s 57 points scored this year, 34 have come in the fourth quarter.• Akron’s string of two-straight games holding an opponent under 100 yards rushing was snapped. CMU finished with 129 yards on the ground.Player Notes:• With 375 yards through the air, QB Luke Getsy moved into third on Akron’s career passing yards list. Getsy now has 4,233 yards in 16 career games. The 375 yards ranks eighth on the Zips’ single-game list.• Freshman WR David Harvey recorded his second-straight 100-yard receiving game with 133 yards and two TD’s on 5 catches. Over his last two games Harvey has 9 receptions for 261 yards, an average of 29.0 yards per catch.• Junior WR Jabari Arthur caught two passes for 31 yards on Akron’s final drive of the second quarter. 17. I disagree. The QB & PK mistakes cost us this one. INT for a touchdown, missing an open Tuzze TD pass, poor kicks. Getsy makes a lot of big plays, he just needs to find some consistency and not force the ball. Looks like CMU made a good hire in Brian Kelly. Boy can we use a home game about now. Anyone know if it will be televised?
  18. Good news: Miami now has a MAC East lossBad news: Can't leads the division
  19. knock on wood, i'm getting the video now on zipszone...
  20. Mack Rhoades needs to get to the bottom of the lousy audio feed. I know he can't control TWC but I hope he implores them to do some pregame testing next time.
  21. yeah, I was looking forward to watching my first Zips game online...somebody definitely "dropped the ball". I hope they can get it together soon.
  22. weather looks good in mt. pleasant...66 and partly cloudy, a high of 77 is forecast so the heat won't be as much of a factor as last week,Cmon Zips !
  23. I think us out of staters are out of luck, unless they spring it on us at the last minute again like last week. I think that was a one time freebie though. I think I will bite the bullet and get the streaming media subscription...it is video as well as audio so I'll actually get to watch the game, not just listen. And with 10, 11 or 12 football games left plus all of basketball season the price is very reasonable and goes to a good cause Go Zippers !!
  24. and they're not...http://www.recordpub.com/news/article/196092
  25. IMO, a little patience is in order. They have both had 2 tough environments in which to begin their college careers. Your first collegiate game At PSU in front of 100K plus in steady rain...holy smokes. Then the wolfpack pinning their ears back with our o-line struggling to block...yikes. At CMU won't be quite as intimidating and then in the Rubber Bowl...let's see how they do these next 2 games. I think they will gain some confidence and be alright. Which will make us that much better.
