  1. I'd be content if they showed more scores from around NCAA. This was done all the time at the Rubber Bowl. Not so much at Info. p.s. I'm with AKzipper, that concrete needs some banners right away. Bare concrete is not a good look for a stadium
  2. From a BG perspective, the publicity gained from the event may be more valuable than gate revenues for one home game. Anyhow, the last neutral site game they played was six years ago, so it's not like this is a common occurrence. I applaud this decision.
  3. Ha ha...yep. Any little opportunity to insult them should rightly be taken.
  4. Okay, the tone of this article kind of pisses me off. What kind of value does a term like "BCS-level" really have in basketball? So many "BCS level" schools would have their a** handed to them by mid-majors and non football schools in basketball. It's not often that a coach would leave a BCS-level job for one in the Mid-American Conference, but that's what Jim Christian has decided to do. 5. Something I haven't considered....anyone out there know which one of our QB's is most capable of throwing a deep ball?
  6. I think part of the reason Cincy lost was because they had the worst uniforms I've ever seen.
  7. Right on!!!
  8. Thanks Root and Zesty!!! and JAKE!!!!
  9. Does anyone know where I can find the renderings of the building UA was initially planning in the footprint of Memorial Hall? I believe it was intended to house the College of Education. It was to be architecturally similar to the Student Center and was to frame around Buchtel Hall providing symmetry. If I remember correctly, an outdoor classroom space was also included. I've tried google searches ie "landscape for learning" and found NADA. I know I'm not crazy...I've seen these pics. Any help tracking down a pic of the proposed building would be most appreciated!! Scott

  11. Do you really want to go there ha ha. I like your East Market suggestion. The "Crossroads" District. A future biomedical corridor/mixed-use walkable nieghborhood. And...it could be the site that is the compromise between the "debate of the century" (I'm being sarcastic) of downtown vs. campus...it's both!
  12. Spin, is your question about how many arena's are publicly owned?
  13. Maybe I missed it, but who is pledging to help fund this?
  14. I really think the majority of people on ZN agree with you.
  15. I think the footprint of the Arena would bee too large. Even if it is the baseball field, that kind of open scenic area is an asset on our urban campus. Again, the master plans have all future development going south of Exchange. I think that's a really good idea with tons of spinoff potential. On another note, regarding spinoff development. Pints and BW-2's and Subway just aren't going to cut it for me personally. Heck - there's not one place I would even consider calling a "restaurant" in the vicinity. We are severely underserved compared to K ent and other schools. The arena should absolutely be a catalyst to improve this glut of respectable bars and restaurants. Anyhow, locating smack dab in the middle of campus I think is the worst choice. That is, unless UA wants to install a Winking Lizard etc. as part of the venue.

  17. I am in absolute agreement.
  18. I think it's extremely disappointing that we can't rely on our school to look out for us. Then again, UA is the same entity that brings us the legendary JAR gameday experience. But what the heck? How hard is this? Target a large enough, reputable place in vicinity of arena. Let Jim Tressel make one freaking phone call and bam. Done. p.s. I had a great time at Wilberts. It's always been a great bar with great music (played Black Keys!!). But I would have much preferred a larger all Zip fan environment.
  19. Saw this on the urbanohio forum re: talk of a new arena for Cincy. I just thought it was interesting how many teams in our future conference (ha!) play off campus. Georgetown - plays home games off campus in the Chinatown district of Washington, D.C. (home of the NBA's Wizards and NHL's Capitals) Marquette - plays home games off campus in the downtown Bradley Center (home of the NBA's Bucks) Providence - plays home games off campus in the downtown Dunkin' Donuts Center South Florida - plays home games in downtown Tampa at the St. Pete Times Forum (home of the NHL's Lightning) St. John's - plays home games off campus at Madison Square Garden Seton Hall - plays home games off campus in Prudential Center in downtown Newark (home of the Devils and Nets) Louisville - plays home games off campus in the downtown KFC Yum Center Villanova - plays home games off campus at various locations, including the Palestra and the Wells Fargo Center Depaul also plays off campus, as does soon-to-be new Big East member Memphis. 20. Uh oh, I'm sure there's a valuable lesson in here for us. Cleveland State University ponders the future of the Wolstein Center March 10, 2012 CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland State University, which won a hard-fought battle 30 years ago to obtain state funding and local support to build the 13,000-seat Wolstein Center, is now seriously considering whether the university should keep it. Naysayers who warned when the center was proposed that it would be too large, would never turn a profit and would never consistently attract top music and sports events may have been proven right. Hoping to generate more business, CSU hired a new company in August 2010 to manage the facility. But its inability to attract events and revenue has led university officials to believe it may be the market, not the marketing, that keeps the center empty. "I think where we want to get to at the board level is to be very clear as to what is the best purpose for Wolstein in terms of CSU's overall plan and strategy," Stephanie McHenry vice president for business affairs and finances, said Friday. "What do we need Wolstein to do for us? It is a great venue for basketball and commencement and some of the things we could put on that are core to what CSU does. Then we need to understand what is the cost of being able to provide that." Read the rest here: http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2012/03/cl...ersity_pon.html
  21. Very insightful post. In general, I think Akron and Cleveland State students do not have the same level of connection with K ent and OU. As Zips and Vikings shed that dreaded commuter image I honestly believe things will get much better.
  22. Right! And to make matters worse, I actually hurt my back celebrating (I'm over 40) when I thought we had put the game away (Borat: NOT!) with 2:00 left. When K ent started coming back, all I could think about was limping out of the Q after a Miami OH-esque moment whilst being taunted by Can't State jerks. p.s. some old women near me had a "Boo the Roo" sign. You bet we threw down with them!
  23. Thanks Yaz for the recap. Ya know, there's sooo many options and it kinda sucks that the U dropped the ball this year. Glad to hear the Greenhouse Tavern mentioned- it's a bit price, but awesome. And that there was some good waitress action at Cadillac. My comrades were late yesterday so there was no pregame for me, unless you want to count Arthur Treachers in Tower City food court. Today though, there is PLENTY of quality time for some pregame. We're going to hit Wilberts for sure. Probably lounge around E. 4th St. too for a while. As always, I'll be rocking my Jason Taylor era b-ball jersey. p.s. for those of you who want to save some extra money for beer, there is lots of free parking on streets surrounding Tower City. Any meter is good, just check signs to make sure it's not valet parking or taxi stand. FYI metered spots are free on weekends. Try: Superior Ave west of Tower City Prospect east of E. 9th St. W. 10th St. (Flats East Bank) **W. Huron just south of Tower City (best spot!!) Along Public Square on Frankfort Ave W. 3rd North of Public Square Ontario North of Public Square
  24. I think that is the only time during the game where I actually laughed. Then Abreu misses both free throws!!!! Loving how the Zips put us through the stress at the end!!
