1. Heh heh.....who on here wrote this? Common...Sense! December 23, 2011 at 9:44AM Follow Terry, I'd like to say worse...but I'll be "respectful" regarding your insane comments that "it would've been better news" to persuade P. Withers--as he is now affectionately known--to come home. You worked in Akron long enough to know that P. Withers would NEVER have excited and unified a fanbase and community in the way that T-Bow will (and is already doing). Good heavens, get on board and realize that this is the biggest sports hiring in UA history. Fans on ZipNation are calling you out, bud.
2. ^ I got a "Tony K." vibe from George because he just didn't seem to even care about getting the facts right. Like, Kornheiser makes no secret he doesn't really know college football. So he doesn't even really try to "get it." It's endearing to many. To me it's just being lazy and annoying when the network sends him out to comment on.....college football! Agree that the sports that Tony cares to know, he really knows. George made some comment that he used to cover "big time" football, meaning the Buckeyes. Now either he is lazy or just trying to be funny. But what I took away from George's tone, was that Akron and the MAC were, in contrast to OSU, small time, and somehow beneath him.
3. I caught the tail end of the interview this a.m. by Jeff Thomas (Akron guy!!!) and Les Levine- they were sitting in for Kiley and Booms on 92.3 The Fan. Topic of discussion was coach Terry Bowden. I only causght the tail end of it, but in that short time I was shocked by two things: First, George Thomas didn't know if Wayne State was Div. II or III. Second, he couldn't tell the difference between Eastern, Western and Central Michigan. And this guy is supposed to be a reporter? In AKRON...Covering AKRON and the MAC??? It has me wondering if any random poster here on Zipsnation would be better qualified than he. Now, he did inject some humor into the interview- which truthfully many posters here probably are incapable of- but my point is that shouldn't he, you know, be MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE THAN US!!! I don't know...maybe his style is to wallow in ignorance the same way Tony Kornheiser does. But come on George. You're repping the Beacon Journal. And your lack of knowledge casts a poor reflection on your employer.
4. Shoot...I work in that building!!! I saw the Sam Houston State basketball team....but I wasn't really aware of anyone else.
5. Most intriguing....
6. Just for clarification, Euclid is in no way shape or form "inner city Cleveland." It is by every definition, a suburb. And actually a very pleasant one at that. Yours truly, The Euclid Chamber of Commerce. http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS...qHQiUEn_vebb22A THAT SIR was my point. He said that if it was Egner those comments would not have been made. Classic race card. As stated above, I meant it more as judging someone based on where they are from. I mentioned Josh Egner because Green, Ohio doesn't have a bad reputation. Inner-city Cleveland does. It angers me to see assumptions made about who Treadwell hangs out with because he's from inner-city Cleveland. Nothing more, nothing less. I know GoZips isn't a racist and wasn't calling him one.
7. Excellent article. Thanks for posting mes!!
8. Got this text yesterday... so where do we tailgate now that AKRON IS DEAD TO ME? sent from iPod
9. Wooo...I think the GVX came with the cup holder!!! Yeah we're definitely not good enough for that one. We are the standard GV. http://www.google.com/imgres?q=yugo&hl...001&bih=505 Are we a GV or GVX model?
10. Well folks, the wheels have finally come off the rusted out Yugo that is Akron Football.
11. Lucky you!! The beaches in Michigan are some of the best in the country.
12. Jupiter maybe you're more optimistic than me, but I doubt anyone in the media is bending over backwards trying to be first with this. In fact, I've never known the media to aggressively cover anyone other than tOSU, Browns, Cavs and Tribe.
13. Prayers for you and your family Coach.
14. Thanks bucket, for the insight.
15. Congrats Tabitha, on being the best person in the world.
16. We've been a football punching bag on all of the local shows this year. But it's not even in a mean-spirited way either, more like "I feel sorry for Akron they really are terrible" type way. But as with soccer, b-ball will be our redemption.
17. More of that damn Cleveland media hating on Akron!!! Just kidding. I kid a lot.
18. I don't blame Cleveland- or the rest of the state- for rooting for OSU. Like it or not, they are the flagship school for the state of Ohio. And the Cleveland media which, face it, IS the media for Northeast Ohio- they are STARVING for quality college sports in the local area. You have to be really involved with revisionist history to believe that the media up here somehow ignored our Soccer National Champs, MAC Madness, CSU or Akron b-ball in the NCAA's or Can't States Elite 8 team.
19. LOL @ LeBron calling Nik "Serb." Shows how close he is to the program.

20. TWO Xmas Ales?? I was hullucinating after ONE!!!!
21. I watched this game through some serious beer goggles last night, which was an absolute necessity. +our uniforms looked really good, much much better than the home ones.+defense made several stops at/behind the line of scrimmage...that never happened under oppressive 3-3-5+most in crowded Lakewood Winking Lizard didn't even bother to watch us get embarassed.-attendance was what, 23 people?-who teaches the QB to stand like a tall, rigid, immobile statue with the ball at his ear after the snap? Overcoaching???-this offensive "scheme" has no hope of being effective at any level. It's predictably basic and just terrible.-play calling is mystifying...same play on 3rd AND 4th for NO GAIN? -entire offense glaring at coaches on the sideline for every play should have left town with Brookhardt...it kills all momentum. -how do we make something as simple as completing a pass look more difficult than splitting the atom? -we finally do complete a pass and the play LOSES 11 YARDS. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?-JC casually running out of bounds a yard short of a 1st down. No fight. -receiver jumps in air, lets ball fly off his chest right to Miami defense. Remember the glory days when getting first down wasn't cause for a standing ovation?
22. I saw a good deal of momentum-killing bad passes. Not used to that from our Zips!!!
23. Normally I'm against teams running up the score. But under present circumstances, I want, no...I need to see us put up a ton of points vs. VMI.
24. With UA opening the branch near my house in Lakewood, I'm seriously looking forward to getting some ZIPS gear stocked. The Kohls off Arlington is the only other place where my friends have scored some good shirts/sweatshirts.
25. To my friends in our tailgate group, there is absolutely no momentum for meeting up this season. Akron football is kind of like a dying friend. You don't want to have to see that person in the hospital (infocision) but you feel obligated. Realistically I think we'll only get together to attend 1 game. Maybe two. I don't think any of us has felt right since the shocking loss to G Webb. Also, tailgating in a near empty lot 34 wasn't exactly much fun either. The plummet in optimism from the stadium opening to now is so bad that it's almost surreal.
