  1. If the amount of activity on this forum is any indication, I'd say interest in our football team is close to an all time low.
  2. How good of a team? Here is the problem with our offense. It requires top level D-1A talent to be successful in that offense. Of course we would be better if we had a better team...if you have good enough players, you can run the fullback dive every play and win. We get MAC level players, not LSU or Florida or USC. Just to say we would be better if we had better players doesn't take into account the landscape of college football and the things a team has to do to be successful. I don't care how much better we get, our offense doesn't present a defense with anything challenging and Urban Meyer said that yesterday. No option, elementary pass routes, etc. Pro style can't work at our level because we don't get enough pro players. GP1 I couldn't agree more with your assessment. There are no tricks; only the prospect that we will stand toe to toe and somehow best the opposition. I'm not buying into this concept being at all successful.
  3. Ha ha...you're better off wearing your HEAT CHAMPIONSHIP JERSEY I've been up to Summit Mall twice over the past two weeks to get one of these t-shirts but they've been sold out both times. They're going to call me when they get more in. I'm really hoping to have one before Saturday's Cleveland State soccer match. I've definitely got to have one before the Cleveland State basketball game & the MAC Tourney @ Quicken Loans Arena.
  4. ^ that's a very well photographed and edited promo for the Bobcats.
  5. Hixon looked really good in last game. I think he's a lock at the #3 WR
  6. Wait, wasn't Alex Allen injured during a game? I distinctly remember being at tthe Rubber Bowl when this happened.
  7. 5k race in honor of forumer UA runner. http://www.coolcleveland.com/blog/2011/07/...-student-founds article
  8. Can't wait to welcome Zippy into my town!!
  9. oops just saw this was already posted http://www.patspulpit.com/2011/7/25/229385...and-jeremy-ross The NFL has allowed teams to sign undrafted free agents tonight, and according to multiple media reports (hat tip to Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe), the Patriots have already inked two undrafted rookie free agents. The first, offensive tackle Corey Woods of Akron, is a four year starter who played both sides of the line for the Zips. While touted as being fundamentally sound and experienced, Woods is a little bit stiff in the hips and can struggle with speed rushers. Woods stands at just under 6'5" and 303 lbs. He could potentially convert to guard for the Pats.
  10. In Houseguest, Goldie Hawn's character tells Steve Martin the places she's lived. When she mentions "Akron" Steve intones that he feels sorry for her.In Steven Kings novel "Needful Things" Satan tells a boy that he is from Akron.
  11. Becky's is the classic dive, a pretty fun place.
  12. Rushing the field after that FG was quite a joyous event!! Great memory!!! Not only did he make that bomb, the the Zips didn't have much time to move into the position to kick the FG. Maybe someone can help me, but I remember Toledo scoring with around a minute to go. FG or TD and extra point I can't remember. I think it was a TD and extra point and they were going for the tie on the road. I was watching the game from the endzone. As soon as he kicked the ball, the guy I was watching the game with said, "It's good!". One of the best clutch kicks I've ever seen.7-3-1. WOW! In eleven games. I can't believe I'm about to type this, but those were the days. Who would have thunk? Two years later, the program was in free fall. Seven wins now would be a blessing.
  13. Oh yeah...I've seen that video. Thanks Yaz and Dr. Z.
  14. Where in the world did you get this??? Is, or isn't this going to happen?
  15. BRING BACK THE HURONS.
  16. Funny: ''We're kind of just a small brewery. We just don't go out there and open up markets. We want to protect the integrity of our brands. We want to make sure when we go in, we do it right.'' - Pat Noone, the brewery's business development manager Yuengling, based in Pottsville, Pa., is the fourth-largest brewer in the United States, according to the Brewers Association in Boulder, Colo. **** I think the mystery of why Yuengling wasn't sold here had more to do with the strange and shadowy underworld of distribution.
  17. And in Columbus and many other cities they don't need professional sports franchises because the local university has reminded the populace that they're the only show in town. I do wish UA could find a way of reminding the city that we're the biggest show in our town. Feed the disconnect along the Interstate 80 line. Grow our own civic pride instead of latching onto one of the most pathetic sports towns in the country. LeBron started something, or maybe he sensed something that was already there and tried to feed it. UA should do the same, but a little more tactfully and without mentioning LeBron. I've lived in Columbus. I'd rather Akron not turn into Columbus, where the college kids are treated like celebrities. They're COLLEGE KIDS for crying out loud. Columbus is insane about OSU to the extent it's unhealthy. And don't kid yourself, Cleveland is a great sports town with a lot of tremendous history. This non-existent Akron-Cleveland rivalry is completely ridiculous, and does nothing positive for Akron.
  18. Thanks for the review Doctor!!!!
  19. Just change the name to "The Craving Canine" or "The Hankering Hound" Hey Dr Z, the first rule of consulting is don't give away your ideas for free lol. Your friend always, The Munching Mutt
  20. I call "confusion in the marketplace" on this canine imposter. With all the available names try and be original you dummies.
  21. Love this pic. Wonder if CF will land on a team this year after the strike.
  22. Even if we do absolutely nothing at all but add chairback seating, it would be an enormously positive step. I am "only" 38, but can hardly stand up straight after a game on those bleachers. Agree 100 percent. I'd hate to sound like a cranky 39 year old, but you are so right, the bleachers are awful. And you couldn't pay me to sit in the nice seats in the lame, quiet zone area lol. I'm with Roo. The JAR fan experience is so bad I (and several friends) just haven't been too tempted to make the one hour drive south. Instead I've been simply waiting for the Q games, which the atmosphere and game experience has been very good. The basketball program is at a critical place right now. Whatever happens with JAR or a new arena, I just hope that UA can put their best foot forward and somehow get people more excited about going to games. We need all of Ohio to be convinced that our program is truly going for something greater.
  23. ^ valid points. Though I still don't understand why they chose this wording: Solutions may include renovation and expansion of the existing arena, or demolition and construction of a new arena if modification of the existing facility is not practicable. Maybe it was written, or more likely edited in a hurry. But it sounds like it pre-supposes a limited amount of choices. a. renovate and expand or b. demo and construct new It just seems much more logical that if you're right, and the JAR just can measure up through renovation, this building should nevertheless remain in use for the students and the community.
  24. But wait....it's a different name....unless....wait a minute!! Ha ha. Anyhow, I am totally perplexed by this development. Why would you tear it down, unless maybe you're just going to rebuild on site?
