Simmons was a beast today. Hope we keep riding him for the remainder of the season.

Congrats to Tahj as well. He’s had every reason to pout or mope, but he was ready when his number was called today. He was great.

    2-3 passing for 36 yards

    17 yards rushing

You call that great?  Wow, the bar is low

  2. You fire Jim Dennison for Gerry Faust (after 8 win season and going to 1aa playoffs)

You fire JD Brookhart for Rob Ianello (while opening a brand new stadium.....iCoach, really?)

You fire Terry Bowden for Tom Arth (Bowdens are CFB royalty.....Arth was 9-13 at UTChat)

    What do you expect!!!???

These have got to be three of the dumbest moves in the history of CFB and have SUNK Zips football!!  Especially crazy moves from a school that cannot afford buyouts!!

No idea. I’m guessing we’ve only been favored 4 times in the Moorhead era. The 3 FCS opponents and versus Kent last year.

That’s what I was thinking.  And I don’t think we covered any of those (we didn’t yesterday).  It has got to be a looooong time.  Sorry for the tedious question

That's the kind of community support to expect when you have a winning program. Zips football has been such a loser that no one is interested in being part of it.

We weren't always losing (not when I played).  When was the support ever good (besides an Acme/Zip game).  Basketball has been good year after year and support is meh.  I don't understand what goggles people are looking through.

Why?  If the Zips care so little about their fans 2/3 through spring ball that they don't put out any information, why should I care?  Closed practices?  Who is going to spy on them?  If you looked at your future schedule and saw a team with 5 wins in 5 years, would you even send your "water boy" to check out their spring practice?  The best way to keep the Info seats empty in the fall is to keep the team a secret.

Closed practices will help them get ready for the game day experience.

The inverse of this is James Madison. Their applications and/or enrollment are up ~78% or something like that in the last few years (read this on their board). Their meteoric rise in athletics is driving the overall school enrollment. Their football team has won, and now their basketball team is having success. They've made the full move to DI, but built their brand at the FCS level (Game day went there when they were a FCS squad). I don't know how they were successful in breaking out of the shadows of Virginia, Virginia Tech, etc. - but they were.

They are a case study that Akron needs to examine closely.

  7. Joe Akron is being Joe Akron as they always have (always will).  I got crucified when I brought this up around football attendance....the response was "we need to win".  Well, the Bball team has been a consistent winner and we still have the same problem.

Big issue to me is enrollment.  10 years ago we had 25K enrollment, today it is 11K (with 20% living on campus).  That doesn't even fill the upper bleachers.  We need to attract more kids to the school, fill the beautiful dorms that were built and then get those kids to the games.  They are a captive audience.

Enrique is such a beast.  Most of my favorite Zips have been front court players... Jeremiah Wood, Romeo Travis, Tree Treadwell, Zeke Marshall.  Absolutely all-time Zips greats.  Here we are in year 4 of 'Rique's career and for some reason I still can't get my mind around the fact I'd take Enrique in front of all of them.

I still remember what I thought was a laughably optimistic over-reaction by @NWAkron to a video which popped up online of Enrique playing well in the Akron-Canton "Defense Optional" Pro-Am summer league.  He looked pretty decent in the video but even after watching it I never thought Enrique would even be put on scholarship.

Me too.  Favorite hoops player ever.  Started with academic scholarship and walked on makes him more endearing.

    Good post.

They are probably going to need to work on defensive depth. They do have a good defense, but if the offense still struggles next year they will need a lot of fresh, competent bodies during games.

The grad transfer QB probably works best at this point. Joe burned two seasons without his guy behind center. Can't wait to develop a freshman for a couple of years.

I see someone gave a thumbs down to your post. NE Ohio fans are a funny bunch. I think they enjoy losing more than winning.

I hope this debacle doesn't affect recruiting.  If you are a top RB, are you going to come here when you get 10 or less touches?  If you are a QB are you going to come here to throw 30 yard passes for 5 yards (WRs too).

What are we selling recruits right now?

It's about opinion, not correctness. We'll never know how the youngsters would have fared against Can't. Does this mean JU is now the man for next year? I admit it's a little scary that the successful HS QB's we've recruited are still too overwhelmed to take snaps in a bottom-level MAC game.

I was thinking the same.  And my wanting to see the freshman had more to do with thinking they might give us a better chance to win than what we have been seeing.
