Hard to argue your logic. Ranked #1 several years in a row and it's the most popular sport in the world...but if I win Mega Millions.....

OK, I am the first one to shy away from additional spending, so I am not advocating more money spent right now....this is more of an observation. From the time I was on the team until now, there have been minimal upgrades for the rifle range. When I was there we had some repairs to stop water leaking into the range from the parking lot above, and we also got a new backstop. After I left they got new carriers and dividers, but I think that is about it. Newt has been able to at least keep the equipment near a level the top teams in the county have have, but that is just about it. I know we aren't a money sport, or even a sport people follow (except for us alum), but it seems that all the other teams are getting lounges and meeting rooms. Heck, the rifle team doesn't even have it's own dedicated facility! It is an academic facility first (Police Academy) and then the Rifle team gets the open slots. I can remember getting up at 4:00 AM to practice around the police academy schedule back in my day. I know that Newt and Brian have tried to get new facilities with all of the building going on in the past decade (Student Center, Field House, Football Stadium), but no luck. I hope that in the future, if there is another athletic facility expansion, or even a new academic building that the Rifle team gets some consideration. They have been steadily improving year after year and last year had an individual breakthrough with Jenna's National Championship. I understand that the team will get benefit from the new facilities, and the Athletic Dept has been great in working with the team to help them improve, but it would be nice to tack on an extra 3000 sq feet or so in the basement of the next new building for the team. P.S. Believe me, if I somehow come into a lot of money, this won't be an issue....

Zakuani didn't win the Hermann Tropy last year...right?

SWEET! I'm all over this! Thanks!

It's a week before the game, and you are worried about the weather. FWIW, in Ohio, I don't really worry about the weather until 2 days prior to any event, and then it is a 50-50 shot. In Michigan, you don't worry about a weather forecst EVER! Here's my prediction, it will be some conbination of the following:1) Cloudy2) Sunny3) Raining4) Snowing5) Warm6) Cold7) Windy

I for one was spoiled by Butchie, Charlie, and Luke. Didn't know how good we had it.

You know, you're killing he post count for the soccer thread! Don't be suprised when the moderators axe it for a Rifle page

A few things stood out to me. One, I don't ever think I've seen a game where the other teams defensive talent was just so far above what our offense could handle! Maybe I just never saw it before, but their guys were just so strong and quick...our guys were just overmatched. Hell, the D-line would make one move and be around our guys...no wonder were were getting stuffed in the backfield! I don't know if this resulted in my second point or if we went into the game this way, but our guys seemed, well, intimidated....to the point of just wanting this thing to get over! I don't know how many times I saw the RB totally give up on a block allowing CJ to get crushed! They were in position but just let the guy run by! Also, early on, none of our guys were going forward, they all seemed to be going backwards. During tackles, they didn't drive into the guy, the grabbed onto them while getting plowed over. As the game went on we had a few good pops, but early on, we looked very intimidated. I couldn't make any assessment of the running game because we got stuffed so much. As for the passing game, the WR were good, they had to go up and get quite a few balls and came down with them! I hope the dropped balls of last year stay in last year! CJ11 seems to be making slightly better decisions, but still threw into heavy coverage quite a few times. I didn't think Rogers pulled the ball down to early, but he wasn't as accurate as CJ11, IMO. The D did hold PSU Scoreless last week and there were at least 2 picks we almost had. I think the secondary could be a pleasant suprise. I would love to see an amazing Defence evolve this year! I really think the MAC overall has shoddy defenses.I fully expect a different team this week against Morgan State. We better be out there ready to rip somebody's head off! If not, it's going to be a LONG year. I also hope that PSU rolls through the Big 10 for our sake. Did anyone think UofM would crush WMU like that? I sure didn't. Already turing out to be an interesting season. Can't wait for next weekend!

Overall, I've had to scale things back a bit. I plan on parking in lot 34, West of the Computer Building and arriving at 9:00. I was originally planning on arriving at 7:00 but I would be insane to put my little kids through that! I'll be doing my stadard fare, brats, chips, and some beverages with a little music. Expect some friends to show up and we'll just take it easy. Before the kids I just kept making thing more elaborate, but now I just want to kick back and take it easy with minimal hassle! I plan on packing up around 12:30 and to be in route for the stadium via Buchtel Commons by 1:00. I don't want to miss ANYTHING in the stadium. That's about it. I hope I can get a spot because I know a LOT of folks will be there before 9:00.

did anyone else notice while watching the gae yesterday that the big ten logo has an 11 in it?And where have you been for the past decade?????
-
Rodgers didn't seem to want to pull it down too early yesterday IMO. He has the mobility advantage, and CJ11 appears to have the accuracy advantage. I don't think we're going to find our "True QB" this year so we'll have to make the best of it.

Zach, you forgot one little thing. How about the money to pay for the new building for international business? We don't have it. That is why the Coleman Commons has not been finished. That is why the new college of education building is on hold. That is why the soccer stadium has yet to make it off the drawing board. The economy sucks. The board of trustees are worried about our bind rating slipping and they will not go into an aggressive building mode. They may be right. BTW, the college of business tried to build the institute for global business on its own, but could only raise $5M of a $10M price tag. The cost has since gone up again and still won't give us the space or room to grow that we need. Our business program could be so much better if we had the facilities. Yet we are still damn good and continue to grow, just not as fast as we could with the funding needs we have.So Zach, how about a loan? Well at least the administration is finally showing some restraint! For a minute there, I thought we were going to out spend the US Gov't and single handedly bring Ohio out of recession!!

Excellent Article On Boise St. vs. Oregon Ending
Zipsrifle replied to GP1's topic in Akron Zips Football
The Boise State guy had it coming to him. Searched out Blount and started talking trash. Do I support his Blount's action, no, but the Boise state dude was just being an @$$.....it happens! I think both should get suspended for the season. -
We may have the best stadium in the MAC, but no way we can compete with this academic space! Amazing!http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,20112.0.html

I try to be very down to earth with these predictions. Zips shock the nation....Akron 48 to PSU 44. I'm feeling it!
-
Come on. REALLY?! Is there really this much complaining over a wristband!?!? My 2 yr old daughter complains less than you guys! Man, suck it up!!! I just hope the FB players don't whine this much or we're screwed!
-
I just hope that Walt has worked his magic and CJ tears the competition up!
-
Yea, I noticed that too! Of course, they will find some other way to screw us.
-
Things like that are OK for accountants.....it's only money, the print more every day! Engineers on the other hand, we screw up, bridges collapse, spaceships crash, or worse yet, we have the accounting dept. cut us off!!! Of course, since I haven't found an OU Engineer yet, I doubt this is stressed in their classes!

My family and I talked to a few players and one of them mentioned that they were looking at a few other schools including OU, but that Akron's campus was nicer and easier to get around (OU is apparently too spaced out). He also mentioned the stadium was a big factor in his decision. GREAT job today though. VERY impressed with the stadium and how the event was run. It was fun just to walk around and the fact that they let you walk on the field was awesome. PUMPED FOR THE MORGAN STATE GAME! GO ZIPS!!!!Hey ill be honest with you, OU's campus is a bit less spaced out than Akron's. Especially with the parking situation this semester, that has made it not even close. But i'll be happy that this player thought that it was the case and came here because of it.I didn't think ANY campus could be less spaced out than UA's! I haven't walked around the OU campus so I can't comment, but the heart of UA's campus is really crammed in there as a result of the early days!

Kudos?!?!?! More like false advertising!!! When I purchased my family plan, I was told that the 4 seats are mine to use how I like and to take anyone I would like. Much like the Browns' "family plan", past Cavaliers "family plans", etc.. This is a major screw up on their part, and the ticket office will be hearing from me Monday.Well, I had the family plan and I knew the entire time that it was supposed to be two adults and two kids. I just considered us lucky at the RB when they gave us 4 GA tickets. If the person who sold you the tickets told you this, then yes, you got screwed, but I thought the liturature was pretty clear.

I scoped out the tailgating today and the lot by the computer center is adequate. Grass area is at a premium however....I think the rules for games and tossing the ball in the grass is completely unreasonable. It sure would be nice if some people could park on the south end of Buchtel common.

Dude, you are right next to me! Section 208, Row 8, 1-5!
-
DUDE! I feel your pain, I left work at a reasonable time last night while traveling to catch the game in Columbus and got screwed by the SAME THING! I don't have cable either....what am I to do....
