Well, Don't know if he would have been my first choice, but Dr. P seems to know what he is doing. Hope he takes a few marketing classes this year to improve things a bit.

Delmonico Departs, Homayed Here
Zipsrifle replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
It's no secret that I think we need to bring in kids who aren't just here for the athletics, but we should at least let these kids get a semester of school under their belt before crossing them off. I for one hope the issues they are having with the clearinghouse motivates them in the classroom and they come out of Akron with a degree. Show us what you've got guys! -
Yup. That was a very misleading statement from your brother. Miami doesn't even have a college of engineering. They only offer certain degrees in some sort of paper engineering that you mentioned. The reality is that BG and Can't don't have a college of Engineering, and OU's COE is practically non-existent(as you pointed out). I'm sure 90 million will certainly help their cause, but they still will have a LOT of catching up to do.Frankly, the only Ohio MAC schools that have Engineering that are worth a damn would be Akron and Toledo. That's just absolutely hilarious. 1,600 undergraduates in the Ohio COE and 290 graduate students. 79 faculty members (full time) -- Akron has 64.Job placement rate in the top 89% among schools nationally. Those numbers of undergraduates and graduate students just kinda makes the statement "never see any" even more sad for you. there are all these students yet non of them seem to make it outside of college. I'm sure their are a few but face it if other top COE's haven't heard of you and actual engineers themselves haven't heard of you then there’s probably something wrong that you'll need far more than 90mill to fixYou are delusional. First, you call yourselves a "top engineering program." You're not even listed in the top 100, dude. Job placement -- top 89% nationally among engineering schools.Just go back to your tire mold project and have fun. OU grads are working at NASA, leading pharmaceutical and biotech firms, etc.Bye.Those are nice numbers you are throwing around but you know what, I'm still looking for an OU Engineering grad. Nice tire mold comment too. You know what you do with a tire when you are done? You test it! Maybe on something like the Formula SAE race car competition where 120 of the top engineering schools across the WORLD compete to see who can build the best race car. You know, I don't see OU on the list....having a hard time finding Akron.....oh, there it is, near the top at #10. Wow, another top 10 finish for the Zips! http://www.sae.org/images/cds/selfservice/...2009results.xlsAnd speaking of aeronautics, lets see what happened in the SAE Aero Design Competition. Again.....not seeing OU anywhere but look, Akron won the Micro class in both the East and West competitions. Way to go Zips! You know, I think NASA might look for students with such a good grasp of aeronautics.http://www.sae.org/servlets/pressRoom?OBJE...;RELEASE_ID=972And how about those 4 medals in the International Robogames the Zips brought home!http://www.uakron.edu/im/online-newsroom/p...0at%20RoboGamesYep, I feel sorry for those poor souls getting an Engineering Degree from low ranked UA! Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to my quest for Bigfoot!

mention in top mid-major recruiting classes
Zipsrifle replied to ivanak's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
The "article" is written by a senior in high school who obviously just looked at ESPN's ratings. Nothing to get worked up about, anyone can write for that site.Because another MAC school is ranked ahead of you, it has to be wrong? Each of Ohio's recruits were very well rated. Together they made for a stronger overall recruiting class, in the writer's opinion. Quit being so whiny.Well, obviously you are out of the loop, we are all well aware of how Akron has, and will continue to dominate OU in BB. Isn't that kind of OU's thing, Basketball? Well, at least it was a long time ago right? Now you are kind of middle of the pack. I see you are using some of that excellent hillbilly OU math logic "my two pennies are more than that silly little dime you got there". Now.... What did I do with that....oh, here it is: -
Ok, Ok, I know, "Don't feed the Trolls", but this guy has really lost credibility in my book. I’ve already mentioned that those rankings aren’t worth a hill of beans in my mind; it’s what you produce that matters. OU Engineering is like Bigfoot. You hear about it every once in a while, but there is no evidence it really exists.ONCE during college, I heard someone say their son was going to OU for Engineering. I mentioned that I didn’t think OU had an engineering program because I had never heard of it. I had participated in the Engineering competitions that basically all of the major Engineering schools across the country participate in and OU never participated. Oh, and by the way, “Unranked” Akron OWNED those competitions. After school, I scored a job in Detroit. Since then, I have worked with Engineers from Toledo, Cincinnati, Ohio State, Case, Kettering, Michigan State, Michigan, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech., MIT….the list goes on. I HAVE NEVER COME ACROSS AN ENGINEER FROM OU! Who is hiring all of these outstanding OU grads? Nobody I know. I’m running into Akron Engineering grads all over the place, and they are getting hired all over the place. So, I’ll let you know when I run into an OU Engineer. In the meantime, keep an eye on the “Fastest Growing Engineering Schools” list because while you are putting up buildings, Akron will be putting up huge increases in engineering enrollment. Finally, as a related note, a few years ago when my Brother was graduating from Miami, he mentioned how they had one of the top Engineering programs in the country. Reading through the graduation program, I noted all TWO of their Engineering Graduates in "Paper Engineering".

Just what all kinds of research go on at UA?! Do they know something we don't?!I think this is the first product of the corrosion program. The roofs are designed to last 100,000 years.

Heck with that show me a urinal with a Can't Logo to piss on.Great idea! Imagine, those little plastic thingies in the urinals, maybe we have the logo of the opposing team on them for each game!. Does GoJo make those things??? Maybe we could score an endorsement!

Can someone who is a lawyer decipher the alcohol policy for me? It says something about UA not having the authority to give permission for consumption bla, bla, bla, no open containers, bla, bla, bla. Sounds to me that there is no drinking!!!!!

I haven't had an issue with finding Bells around here to be honest. I also think that Waldo looks much better full than empty, the main stands look a little ragged. Other that. That, I thought the atmosphere was great!

Here is the question. It is the job of the coach to retain good players, but with every organization there is a degree of turnover that happens naturally. So what is an acceptable turnover rate? If we cut our turnover rate down to 4 per year and then the next year they have 5, then the "the program is going in the wrong direction so fire the coachers" (these are the same people in corporate America who have Six Sigma black belts or Browns fans) pop up their heads in an effort to try to be right about something. I think losing five scholarship players in a season is within the "acceptable" category of turnover for a football program. It is silly to believe there aren't going to be a couple of players a year who flunk out. UofA does not have the resources to keep every player from flunking out. It is also silly to believe there aren't going to be a couple of players a year who want to leave UofA because they just don't like the school or are unhappy for what ever personal reason they may have. Some may just not want to play football anymore and they stay in school because they like it at UofA. The turnover rate will NEVER be zero and some people need to get over that.Understood, no matter what you do, you will have some turnover. JD early on, however, did not do a good job at retaining top talent, which I think burned us here the past few years. It appears that this is changing...time will tell.

Geese, what's with all the worrying about the grass ;)I'm sure if youade the right donation you can have your "AKRON" in the endzone seating!
-
Come on, you can do better than that when taking a shot at us Browns fans! I give it a 6 out of 10. I partially agree with your observations on coaches. MAC coaches may have the most difficult job in college FB. They are asked to take relatively obscure, underfunded teams with little to no winning tradition in the middle of Big 10 country and turn them into winners. Maybe this is why the good ones do so well when they leave. Regardless of their difficulties, I do expect an Akron coach to recruit and RETAIN the best players in the confrence, instill the proper mindset within team, and develop the talent to the fullest extent both on and off the field. A tall order, but if they are successful the result should be a team that is able to rise to the challenge, when necessary and win those close games greater than 50% of the time. JD seemed to have this when he first started. Are the players responsible for what happens on the field, YES. I try to keep in mind that these kids are still little more than teenagers and will make mistakes. They still require the guiding hand of a coach to lead them in the right direction. I think UA has been pretty good in giving their head coaches ample time to develop their program and if it is not successful after several seasons, time to try again.

Is this the baseball forum?

Hmmm, seems like Jac is still turning over the ball in key situations. These reads don't give me much info as I don't know if the D is improving or if our O is still the same old.... Key players hurt as well....hope they are better by PSU.
-
Read the summary at Gozips.com. Is it me or are the backups getting most of the playing time? Seems like the names you would expect to see with big yards (other than QB) don't have them. Is this because they don't want these guys to get hurt or that they are already hurt??

I'm not contesting the facts....I was at the toilet bowl in '94. The point I would like to make is that someone who was head coach for the Zips for 9 seasons, took them DI-A, and worked for UofA for sometime AFTER being head coach would be more qualified to write the foreward than someone who was a position coach for a few years and then moved to a rival school.
-
Yea, thanks for the summary, I'm hungry for any info I can get on the team.

I ordered 11 tickets on Friday, 8 of them for the Can't game. I anticpate at least that many more during the season....every little bit helps. Anybody know how the early ticket sales to Season Ticket holders went last week?

Ok, now I have to say that I too am frustrated that the forward was by Jim Tressel. Lets face it, this book is going to be purchased by die hard Akron fans who realize that Jim Tressel was a Zip at one point, but also realize that his contribution to the overall Zip program was relatively small. I would much rather have Dennison or Faust, someone who put a large portion of their life into UofA. I see the Tressel thing as a blatant attempt to put a big name on the cover for OSU fans to generate sales.

I am so excited that this book is available. Does anybody know if it will be available in the new team shop? I have to have this thing, and it's about time. Now, I just need to find a fitting place for this at my house. Do we have a icon of a smilie beating a dead horse? I mean, I really think it was a shame that someone pointing out that such a long overdue book was being published has yet again resulted in two pages of the usual back and forth. It really has killed this thread. Next time, I suggest moving it to the smack section and you guys can make whatever arrangements you want to fight it out over there. Here, I did it for you:http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?showtopic=14455

In reading through some of the articles online, one thing I find encouraging is that JD is pleased with how things are going. He doesn't sugar coat things much and if I recall properly, the past few years in fall camp he was saying how much improvement the team needed. This year he seems pretty happy with the teams performance. I hope this is an indication of a contender this year!

Petition: Ending Open enrollment
Zipsrifle replied to ksu sucks's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I graduated from HS with just over a 3pt and had to go through university college first. I realized that unlike HS, I could flunk out rather easily from college and decided to apply myself. I graduated from UA with honors. College is often the first place where people are without a guiding hand, a place where many are truly on their own for the first time, a place where many people first really learn the consequences of their actions. I knew one kid who was super smart (MIT smart) but didn't make it off the OSU campus alive. Others find it empowering and achieve more than they thought possible. I don't see why UofA should close their doors to people who have yet to find who they really are for the sake of a ranking. I see UA as an institution that will lead NE Ohio into the future and it starts with the people who live here and plan to stay here, and IMO those are the people UA needs to serve. -
Where's K e n t? I think it is a little irresponsible to leave them out as we all know the dominating force they are on the field. I mean they are so good that their fans don't even bother to talk about them on their site!
