Actually, I need a bridge over my creek and I have often wondered how much I would need to donate to get a UofA designed bridge? Somehow, I think this one might be out of my price range....

Actually, it's pretty good as far as the general media goes....

Boy, if this D is as good as you say they will be, and with our youth, we will really be a terror for the next couple of years! Do we expect to see a lot of fresh legs in the game with this depth? It would really help our chances against the BCS teams.

Petition: Ending Open enrollment
Zipsrifle replied to ksu sucks's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Dude, those ranking are worthless. I've told the story how many times here about how Akron wasn't even listed in those polls in Engineering when I was there even though we were able to smoke every other school in the country in 3 of the 4 SAE competition we entered! I think YOU should be worried about the fact that General Motors hired more Akron Challenge X members than any other school that competed. These are the guys they will be relying on to turn that ship around! When I was in school, the boys in Detroit wouldn't even look at you. The education speaks for itself and part of that education is rubbing elbows with people who aren't squeaky clean and polished. You know, like people you will have to deal with every day in real life. -
Oh, that's easy!Just put up some electric generating wind-mills nearby and promise to use the energy to lower student tuition. The wind will never blow again.Wrong, you can't stop the wind completely in a wind turbine, only slow it down....the air has to go somewhere after it goes through the turbine. I think they should put a computer room in the scoreboard that is linked only to ZNO. The fans in that room, frustrated with the scoreboard design would give off enough heat to increase the internal pressure, causing the exterior to bow outward and fixing the problem!

I'm looking forward to making the trip to Buffalo this year as I have never been to UB. The one delema I have is do I take the Zip bus from UA with the rest of the fans, which we've never done or do we drive and man it a weekend?
-
Exactly! In all honesty, though, I rely on the more informed posters to educate me on the team as I never really had time to learn the finer details of the game! Hell, for the past 15 years the majority of my time has been focused on a target, in a book, on a computer, or with my hands covered in grease!

Though I really hope for the best, I feel that Bain will never be at 100% for us. I think he will play as it sounds like his talent makes him MAC starter material even while injured. I just hope the guy is able to fully recover and not be in pain for the rest of his life.

You guys act like we've been dominating the MAC! We won our first BB championship las year and have NEVER dominated in football! Sure we're great in soccer and track, but I don't think "Akron" equates to domination in the minds of other MAC fans. I'm going to wait until we are truly dominating in a sport before I start talking about leaving the rest of the MAC behind!

I find it interesting how each schools fans have an academic superiority complex, Akron included. The old "your school" degree is only good for a job at dominos thing. I also like the "Their a bunch of criminals" line too, seems to be new hot insult. I don't really care about what the fans from other schools think about our facilities, I just want to start consistently winning!

Makes you wonder if they will take the number of 3 game packages sold, divide by 2 and add that to the season ticket sales? They seem pretty determined to get those numbers as high as possible.

Dude, I talked to JD and he said he would have been there but his CAPS LOCK key was frozen and he was trying to fix it.

Let's put the "student" back in "student section"
Zipsrifle replied to psc2009's topic in Akron Zips Football
I hope the student section becomes starts a lot of things for the fans. At UofM, the student section starts the wave and does some pretty cool things with it. One time, it will go really, really fast, then they will slow it down, then it will split into two and go opposite ways. It's pretty entertaining. -

So, what do those of us who used to live in Michigan do?? -
Dudes, I saw the lights on the video. We're good, they look great!

I'll take 30,000 at ICS over 70,000 at Cleveland Stadium any day!

I wish I could go, but I've been there twice and can't justify two hours on the road to see the unfinished product. Wouldn't It be nice if they had a full blown tour for the ZNO members....I would really like to see that press tower in person!
-
That seems to me folks like we're looking at 99.9% of the finished product. I know there is a lot more to do behind the scenes, but for what we can see on the cams, I think that is about it. I can still remember those first pics I saw of a few guys and some rebar. This place is flat out amazing....just about everything I was hoping for and more! Kudos to UA for stepping up to the plate and smashing this thing over the wall!

sandstone? really?Did they have to cut sandstone when they excavated the lower bowl?Yeah the construction manager said the one thing they did not anticipate was the amount of sandstone they would have to deal with. In fact if you look at some of the early shots of the excavation you can see the exposed sandstone.Historically the area was known as a clay bed (they used to make sewer pipes up the road at what is now Mason Elementary). So they had no geological information that suggested they would hit hard rock.very good.I guess I stand corrected.I had assumed that they did not encounter sandstone in the bowl and thus continuing the excavation for a hallway toward the practice field facility would not have been a major additional feat.Apparently, they expected clay and not so much bedrock, but knew ahead of time there would be bedrock near the practice facility scratched that idea. That's okay.I have revealed secret plans to quickly get the players and staff across from the practice facility into one of the very well constructed stairwell stuctures in the north endzone building.Ahhhh, why didn't I see this before. Because of all the water leaking from that water slide, they will need a really, really, really, really, really good roofing system that doesn't leak. What do you think the warranty on that roof is, 200 years? I bet they NEVER have to repair those rooftops!

Zips fans are everywhere all the sudden

I think it's a function of:1) Getting a surprisingly good education at a good price!2) A campus that one can be proud of!3) Having the time of your life while you are here.4) An image of an up and coming University.Earlier this year, I was sitting in a restaurant wearing my Akron Zips polo. A mother walked up to me mentioned how The University of Akron is really a great school. I noticed about 4 other people around us turn their heads in the "What school is she talking about?" fashion. I said, something about being an Alumni and a big sports fan. She said her daughter was a there for Engineering and that it was a great program and I mentioned that I was a Mechanical Engineer and also felt I got an excellent education. I get the feeling that we are losing the "Hilltop High" stigma that was attached to UA students in the past and Akron is being recognized as school that provides a quality education. -
I'd disagree with us jumping the gun. It could be we lit the fire under their collective brains and got them to show some urgency. There is a complete lack of communication coming from the whole athletic department. If they don't want to personally give updates, they could leak the information to certain ZN members to inform. I'd help them on that front. I was trying to repent for harsh criticism on my part. See my walmart trash comment. I agree that they have done little to help their situation with die hard ZN fans but hopefully this is an indicator of future success. We've been complaining about this for YEARS, trust me, our recent comments are not "Jumping the Gun". "It's about time!" is my thought! I guess I'll put it this way, I really, really want to GIVE The University of Akron MY MONEY to advertise FOR THEM. Just give me some decent product so I can do it! I'll glady go directly to Akron to get the stuff too! Hell, my wife had to order some cheap license plate brackets online that say "The University of Akron Alumni" on them because UA didn't have any good ones. I'm pretty sure UofA didn't make any money from those plates either. If this store is as good as they say it will be, I'll be at least a hundred dollars lighter in the wallet on Sept. 12th!

What part of InfoCision would you like to see most?
Zipsrifle replied to joshgozips's topic in Akron Zips Football
YES! -
The new arena will be build when one of two things happen:1. A coach from a major sport gets fired.2. The Big East invites Akron to join.I think you are wrong about the coach thing but correct about the BE. This thread is quite a heated debate for something that is just speculation...I find it numerous.
