  1. Man, what bathroom were you using because that one is WAY nicer than the one I've been using!
  2. Folks, the next 5-6 games are a very rare opportunity for UofA football. We are almost guaranteed to have huge, if not sell out crowds! Lots of media attention and "Important" people will be in attendance. If there is a time to get people hooked on Akron football, this is it! As fans, lets do our part to make the atmosphere electric today and tonight! Be courteous and classy, lets have a ton of fun and bring home a WIN!!Go Zips!
  3. Zips fan in Michigan from 2000 - 2007. Now, I'm a Zips fan in Lagrange Ohio ....I just had to move closer, the drive was killing me. BTW, I know a few other Zips fans in Michigan.
  4. I've got to tell you guys I'm planning on tailgating at Schrank South, and I've talked to some people at UofA and been told there will be NO ISSUE drinking in the parking lots. I think Schrank South is gonna be a great place because I have 2 kids and there is an enclosed grass area there just south of the practice field. The kids can run around and not get hit by cars on Exchange street. Hopefully it is open during game days!
  5. I don't see JD leaving after this year. I'm not happy with the losses, as I believe we have the talent to have won those games, but look at the competition. We lost to BSU, a top 25 team, Cincinnati, a good BE team and BG a.......uh........ Anyway, he can claim that he came very close to winning those games with his D being decimated by injuries and without his #1 and #2 Running Backs. I think we've got a good chance at 6 wins, but I don't think we'll go to a bowl. It's apparent to me that JD's approach to improving UofA football is to go after good players that, for one reason or another, may never see the field at UofA. Players that could play at BCS schools but have too much baggage. If a few of these guys manage to hang around and play, we fill the holes with JUCO's and we have an average MAC team, as we do today. What may happen, if enough guys hang around, is that we'll just mow through the MAC. As for his coaching ability, I think it is average. In the end, I think JD is cut from a similar mold as Brian Kelley (former CMU coach and now Cincinnati Coach). JD is going to hit the road as soon as another, better offer comes around. 6 wins will keep him here IMO. The administration does not want a potential disaster next season when we have the best chance to hook a lot of new fans.
  6. I have never seen someone who is able to get so many people fired up. How can you NOT like this guy?!?! He got the atmosphere at the JAR really fired up last year and he had the fans more excited before the game last night than I've ever seen. If this guy is a student, UofA should give him a job after he's out of school. Did you see how much the BG fans want to have someone like him???As for the people bashing the RB and the atmosphere, don't let it get to you. There is one, or two at every school. I do have to say that I believe there is some truth to the fact that the other MAC schools know what is happening in Akron and are developing a facilities envy. I drove by ICS after the game last night and I have to say that is going to be one, damn impressive stadium when it is done. Already it's towering over Exchange street, and there is going to be a GREAT pregame atmosphere! Most of the stadiums are set out away from campus. With ICS in the middle of the city, it's size is very impressive!!! I even showed everyone where our tailgating spot is going to be!!!
  7. When was the last time Akron did not win at least 1 game at the RB in a season....1956What a shame it would be if we let it happen this year!!
  8. Did we ever hit their QB in the backfield? Will CJ11 ever lead a receiver on a deep pass? Why do we give their receivers a 10 yard cushion? How many INT's did we drop? Was there any question in anyone's mind that CJ11 would throw an INT in the 4th? Are we now teaching the receivers to slap the ball up as we try to catch it? How many times are we going to run the reverse this year and get only 4 yards? Will we win a game at the RB this year??
  9. It's Lee Owens Fault!!!!!
  10. What does it take to put a team on the field, that when they have the opportunity to go up 35-14, does it?? What does it take to instill a killer instinct???? I've seen it way, way, way to many times where we snatch Defeat from the Jaws of Victory. I don't know why, but for some reason, this loss hurt as much as the loss to Can't State back in 2003. Will we win a home game our last season in the RB?????
  11. In my mind, a student needs to take the responsibility to find out what substances are banned. Ask some questions to find out the information. We cannot blame the NCAA for not informing the students as it is obvious the information was readily available. For comparison, we as citizens are not force fed the laws, though the basic ones are taught and known by everyone. If someone gets pulled over for say, having their front license plate in the front window and not on the bumper front bumper, is it the persons fault they were in violation of the law, or the Gov't for not specifically sitting them down and explaining this detail? It is the citizens' fault. NOW, maybe what this issue will do is change how UofA communicates the substance abuse policy to the students. Did anyone notice the substances specifically banned for Rifle??? alcohol pindololatenolol propranololmetoprolol timololnadolol and related compounds The Rifle coaching staff was very aware of this and made a point to tell us that we need to be aware of what type of medicines we were taking as apparently some of these could be contained in OTC medicines.
  12. Akron beats Can't State for the 10th time in 12 years. name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flush" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>"> name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flush" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350">
  13. Firestone moved it's North American headquarters to Nashville where it will stay. The construction is for a new technical center. It's still a good thing! Yep, you're right. My bad.
  14. Thanks for the detailed info. Glad to hear that what was being used wasn't something that was illegal and that he really does have an injured foot. Is this a done deal for this year? If so, will UA have an official statement to set things straight???
  15. I finally got my tailgating stuff out of storage, but I don't think I'll go too overboard. Might just bring the Ziptruck and the flagpole.
  16. Definately Gold on Gold!!BTW, that pic you've got at the bottom for your signiture with Zippy over the City of Akron....THAT IS AWESOME!!!!
  17. I graduated a little more recently, '99. I was out of school only about 5 years, and I went back to campus after the new student center, rec. center, and closure of Carroll st. I didn't recongnize the place. I really don't recognize the place today. It is truely amazing what they've done to the place. Under president Proenza, UofA has become a major, if the major force of change within the city of Akron and is Akron ever undergoing some HUGE changes right now. UofA is helping to revitalize the downtown, Goodyear is building a HUGE new world headquaters down East Market street and Bridgestone/Firestone is also to start construction of a new North American Headquarters down Main street! Akron is one of very few cities in Ohio that is on the way up!!Here are some pics I took earllier this year:Akron Under ConstructionSummit's Glory - Urban PlacesSummit's Glory - Green Spaces
  18. Any word on how his foot is doing???? He must be really tough, initially he was only supposed to be out 2 weeks and what are we up to now, 9-10 weeks??? Must have been much worse than what he initially thought???? You know, I'm sure it was for medical reasons. Damn Ohio laws. Good for us the Athletic dept. doesn't let little things like this cloud our judgment. Seriously folks, this is complete Bull$#!+ If this is really what happened, I'm very disgusted with the spin that has been put on this. It is completely unacceptable in my eyes. At a minimum the official word should have been that he is having compliance issues with the NCAA, not that his foot has been injured for 2-1/2 months.
  19. There has been a history of worthless advertising and promotional programs going on at UofA. "Fear the Roo" was a big hit, but that's about it. I KNOW I could have put together a better commercial than the "Be a part, from a start" advertising for the new stadium. This got me thinking. I'd bet that there are enough creative students and alumni out there to resolve this problem. So, here's my thought. Why doesn't UofA start an X-Prize type of competition for a few upcoming promotional campaigns? UofA could define what they want the message to be and any necessary rules. UofA could say provide video for people to use, pictures, slogan, etc., or people could come up with their own video, pics, etc. In the end, I'm sure the prize could be much less than what they spend on some of these promotional campaigns and they would probably get much better ideas than what they've been able to come up with. Maybe a student would get free tuition for a year and maybe an alum could get Primo season tickets or even a monetary incentive. Much better than kids pics on the season tickets. I know there are a lot of creative people around here that would probably enter. What do you think??
  20. Didn't that already happen????? lolOk, Ok. If I were a parent with kids in High School,........
  21. I need to add this to the discussion. Having sat at home and watched the game, UA's commercials were horrible compared to the Can't commercials. I think Can't had about 15 different commercials focusing on their different degree programs. They put Can't in a very good light whereas the few Akron commercials mostly focused on athletics and then they had the confusing one with Proenza and the ball that flies around where you can't make sense of anything. Seriously, we may have won the game, but if I were a parent, I would be pushing my kid to attend Can't from what I saw on the commercials.
  22. Exactly. They were making fun of themselves. Remember the basketball game at the JAR? "We don't Th_ow Stuff"I don't think it matters anymore. See, the Can't State students at that game have either all dropped out, don't follow football, or realized that they would make more money delivering pizzas than with their underwater basket weaving degree.
  23. Hello everyone from sunny Florida. Yes, there are good teams in the MAC East, and one of them is The University of Akron.Like you said, just win the east. Six wins could do it for us. We are at three and we need three more.Quite possibly the most light hearted, optimistic post I've ever seen from GP1. What's the occasion?
  24. OMG haha, they look like power rangers or something EXACTLY!!
  25. The link to a You Tube video is broken.
