Listening the post game show, KD said that he thinks overall, our underneath presence is as good as it has ever been. I don't know if this is just a pep talk or what, but that kind of amazed me.

87-63 Zips win easy. I only caught the last 3 minutes of the game, but hey, at least I got to see some of it. What's that 6 in a row now?

resource on UA projects and growth
Zipsrifle replied to zen's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I've seen this thread before. On the same site, if you go to the city photos forum, anyone can post pictures of Ohio's city's(or college campuses). Akron is very underrepresented and there has only been one UA photo thread that I've seen before( I believe it was posted by our own zipsrifle!).If anyone want to represent UA they should post some pics on there. Especially of the new stadium construction.Typically this is the 2nd site I visit when I surf the net......anyone want to guess what the first is? Akron is very under represented and I would contribute more, but, I live near Elyria and don't get many chances to go to Akron. Cleveland, Cinci, Cowlumbus, and Dayton are overly represented. There is a LOT of talk about what might happen in the other cities (medical mart, new downtown skyscrapers) whereas there is no talk about what IS happening in Akron (New Stadium, New Goodyear HQ, new BSFS Tech Center, 22 Exchange, etc). I have a fascination with "property development" in general and this is a pretty good place to get the goods on what is going on. Some pretty good city pictures here too. -
Main/Exchange Apts/shops project
Zipsrifle replied to ZippyRulz's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
There is no way I could afford this when I was in college, but now after college, if I was single, oh yea! -
Good post, now you've got me thinking...... One thing that has occurred to me over this bowl season is how pathetic a following Akron would have if we did suddenly get very good. We might be able to bring 18,000 to Detroit, but outside of Toronto, I think our showing anywhere else would be embarrasing. I can't remember which bowl I was watching, maybe orange, but one of the teams didn't have a good history (Cincy?) and their fan support was horrible. As we all know, money talks and BS walks. Good post.

Heard that too, but I wasn't concerned... that just means we still have 20 degrees of momentum Oh no....this is bad!! It means our momentum has reversed and is now 94% in the opposite direction!
-
I would rather we put our efforts into just making the season tickets look professional and not something a 3rd grader drew. Baby steps...

Too large?! No way, I think it looks very imposing, as it should. We want fans from opposing schools to say "WOW!" when they walk up to the gates on Exchange! Also, I think it makes the program have a bigtime feel, but in an opposite way Michigan Stadium does. Walking up to Michigan stadium you think there's no way this is the biggest college football stadium.....and then you walk through the tunnel in the stadium. As for Parking, if you have kids, I think Schrank South lot will be perfect. There is a large enclosed grass lot at the South end of the football practice field that will be perfect for the kids to run around in. I'm probably going to make a few phone calls to see if they can open this up for just this purpose!

and thank god for that...there are so many idiots in the world that i would rather do things easy and on the internet so i dont have to deal with morons.(sorry i just got back from subway in fairlawn where they forgot to tell me until i went to pay that their credit card machine was down. I had $4.90 to my name in cash and change they still would not sell my sub. Needless to say i dont have much confidence in people running things right now.)There are a lot of idiots out there, and, unfortunately, most of them have jobs. If you don't mind waiting around for an idiot to get back with you and then playing tag with the idiot, then this approach works great. I prefer to get the idiot on the phone and just get it over with. The pain may be more accute, but at least it's over quick.

I think the bottom line here is that although academia is indeed loosely connected to reality in many aspects, the sale of these tickets is to the university's benefit and one would think they would make ticket sales more accessible regardless of the holidays. You're trying to tell me that with the economy the way it is now the university can't find somebody willing to answer a phone or manage a website??Apparently not. I absolutely agree that if you are trying to sell something, you should go out of your way to make it as easy as possible to take the money people are trying to give you. I think we all agree that this is one of the many areas of the AD that could use improvement.

I know that today, we strive to make as little immediate communication with another human being as possible. I have never had a problem getting my season tickets, or any tickets for that matter. I simply call 1-888-GoAkron during their hours and talk to a real person....been doing it for the past 10 years now. If you had trouble a few weeks ago getting anyone on the phone, congratulations, you now understand what I mean when I say academia is loosely connected to the real world. It was probably the beginning of winter break or something and do you really expect someone to step up and man the ticket office when school is out? I'll bet if you pick up the phone tomorrow and call again, you'll get someone. If not, try calling again another time, you've got pleanty of time to get your tickets.

Ethics charges against University of Akron trustee
Zipsrifle replied to ksu sucks's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Didn't see anything in the article that mentioned that it would hault construction of the stadium. Remember folks, the PD is in buisness to make money hence the reason for the article. It's too bad UA has had to go through such bad press for the new stadium but I guess that goes with the territory when you are landlocked. -
I have yet to miss a chance to watch this program blow one MAC Championship game after another. Maybe some of you guys could save us all some time and tell us what we are allowed to be critical about without hurting any of your feelinigs. I really don't want anyone to feel bad around here. Life is too short. Are there ways we should be starting a sentence? Are there problems we should not point out? Are there some ideas some of you have invested so much time into believing that it is really off base at this point? Are we or aren't we allowed to have fun at the expense of some public employees people pay to go watch them work? Are we allowed to point out when a player who stinks, stinks? Are we allowed to make fun of the fact that the endless "building" we are doing is actually not building at all? Are we allowed to expect winning against really bad competition? Are we allowed to point out that with the ooc schedule we play, 20 wins a year should be easy? I'm just looking for some guidance here. Again pumpkins, we don't want any feelings hurt around here and we all need to think exactly the same way. Cults of personality have worked well throughout history; we need one here. Once we get the cult of personality going, we can then read really interesting comments on the board such as.... That 52-50 win against Garbage School A&T was excitiing and I can't wait for the Walsh game next week...... Losing against good teams is really the type of building experience we need.... I love watching defense..... I'm interested to see how history will compare KD to John Wooden...... Nate Linhart is my idea of the perfect athlete...... Man, this ooc home schedule is really money well spent on my season tickets and I can't believe more people aren't willing to spend their hard earned money to watch the same thing...... I don't care that he is so lacking in athletic talent that he can't bring the ball up the floor against a good team, Player X is the best point guard ever..... And the always exciting, "we are building a progam we can all be proud of"....Keep doing what you're doing....its fun watching from the cheap seats.

I've always been a fan of Nate, I think everyone is. I remember the first game I saw him play, he was a Freshman. He worked hard the whole game and at one point nailed a 3, I turned to my Wife and said how much I loved his approach. I'm not a huge BB fan, but IMO, he really is one of Akron's greats. Where is he at right now in regards to those milestones? Hopefully UA and the Media don't overlook this fact and give him the recognition he's due.

Thank God the University has an Athletic Director to hire and fire coaches because if it were left up to the fans here, we would have a new coach every other game!!! One week, they would become the highest paid coach in college sports and the next week they would be out because the suck!

Thanks to everyone, especially the ones who put their time and money into making this thing happen. I firmly believe that without the forum, there would be significantly fewer die-hard Akron fans!

High Cost of Higher Education
Zipsrifle replied to ZipAlumn's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Many of these fees are being charged by other Universities. I'm currently enrolled at Kettering (formerly GMI) and basically the ONLY way I don't get charged is if I write a check. If I pay with a credit card, I get the fee. If I do online bill pay or use a debit card, I have to pay a fee. Personally, I do have a problem with the cost of education and I feel more could be done to reduce costs. For example, I am nearly finished with my Masters degree via distance learning. I can stream or get the lectures on a DVD through the mail and it's great! Typically, the lecture I receive is about a year old and I have little to no communication with the professor outside of turning in my assignments. I pay the same fees that everyone else is paying for courses and I imagine the work required of the professor is minimal. The number of students per class taught on campus goes way up and the cost to the University is minimal. You would think that this approach would allow for costs to go down, but this is not the case. I think the University just pockets the extra cash. It seems to me that academia is in a world of their own, loosely linked with the real world. Correspondence with their paying customers is, in my experience, not done in a timely manner. Internally, there seems to be no cost cutting initiatives, rather, if their costs go up they simply pass them on. I often wonder how many of the professors would make it in industry, as their theory often doesn't work so elegantly in the real world. I'm not implying that academia is not subject to market forces but I do wonder when we will hit a tipping point? As the cost of education increases, more and more prospective students won't be able to afford an education. When will the cost of education get so high that people can't afford to go to college? I have mixed feelings about the results from the Fingerhut education recommendation. On one hand, I'm glad that the Ohio Universities will be allowed to retain their individual identities. If UA became The Ohio State University, Akron Campus, I would never participate in anything related to UofA again. On the other hand I also think it sold out by not taking a tougher stance on forcing the Universities of Ohio to work together to reduce costs. Education is, IMO, the single most important factor in shaping our future and I worry that it is becoming more unattainable to people of this country. -
Yea, and they were still teaching it to the Engineering Student's in the late 90's....but we didn't have the cards.

Watcher's View:: Saturday was a GREAT day.
Zipsrifle replied to Zip Watcher's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Great post. I have a 2 year old daughter and she LOVES Zippy. We took her to her 2nd Zips FB game this year against UC(Her first was the miracle in Kalamazoo!) We did quite a bit of prep work in the weeks prior so that she wouldn't completely freak when she did finally meet the real Zippy. Anyway, she was very, very excited and at any point during the game, you could ask her where Zippy was and she would know exactly where in the stadium she was. She was completely decked out in her Akron gear, complete with gold ribbon in her hair and sparkling gold shoes. When we finally met Zippy she did great! She didn't freak and even paitenly waited when a rude group of college girls interrupted as apparently their picture with Zippy need to be taken NOW!! She gave Zippy the Rock, posed for a picture with Daddy and talked about it for the next week! Yea, my kids and nephews think the Akron Zips are the biggest thing out there. -
Akron vs. Niagara University (of Canada)

Cracked ribs suck. It hurts just to breathe, and don't even THINK about sneezing. Hopefully it is something less severe. So that's the injury I sustained playing football before the Can't State Blizzard Bowl a few years ago! -

Looks Like Mack Is Keeping His Word
Zipsrifle replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I actually thought Mack did about all he could do in the NW situation. In the end, I think Akron either went to Chicago or we would forfeit regardless of what Mack did....it was an NCAA decision. As for KD being the AD....I would give it to the guy if it was needed to keep him here. Otherwise, let him coach BB! -
This article really frustrates me. First of all, apparently it is perfectly OK for a school to completely ignore what is best for it's fans, and go somewhere for all the other fans. This is the MAC; Diehard fans are few and far between and giving them the shaft for the loads of BCS lovers who got their degree from a "Mid-Major Confrence" school is a slap in the face for those of us who have lived with the snide remarks from BCS fans and NCAA favortism year in and year out. Yea, you know, I love taking it from you major's around every corner, but here, why don't I forego my small, little, sliver of euphoria that will come once in my lifetime and just do what you want me to do so you can be happy...... I'm totally behind BSU's decision! Go to Detroit and whale on NC State or ND. I hope there are 30,000 BSU fans there to celebrate with them! That will give this guy just what he doesn't want, an undefeated MAC team and no concrete way to justify why they aren't any good.
