.....unless your AKRON

I'VE GOT IT!Columbus State is merging with Can't State! The Piss yellow will bleed into the other colors resulting in Orange and Green! Now, what do you think the name will be?
-
Is that "homemade" or did you acquire it somewhere?Homemade. From some creative friends as a shower gift.

So, in other words, we are planning on getting all our passing td's from open field playmakers. Hey, makes sense to me, we've never had problems in the redzone anyway.
-
Come on, do you really think that travel costs are that relevant? Does it cost more? Yes. Will it keep a team from playing a football game....No. If this were the case, then confrences and bowls should be re-aligned according to which teams are closest to each other and the venue.Ah, most conferences are aligned in the same region for travel, both for teams and fans, and natural rivaries.Ohh...OK. So with this logic, we should start the NEONWPC (Northeast Ohio Northwest Pennsylvania Confrence), which will consist of:CSUAkron Can'tBWWalshJohn CarrollPittCanasiusDequesneSlippery RockMount UnionYoungstown StateBowl Games: Rust Bowl (Pittsburgh)Rubber Bowl (in the Rubber bowl?)Urban Decay Bowl (Cleveland)I'm sure I'm missing a few here. Actually, this would probably make a better BB confrence than the MAC.

The Police can pull someone over for something like this and use it to get their foot in the door. Whether that was the initial intent of the law or not, it's the law. If the accusations are true, the bottom line is that he had drugs and a gun in the car. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this is a bad idea. WARNING----RANT!Unfortunately, IMO, these laws are also passed with an additional, unwritten intent to leverage stereotyping and also to just plain raise money. If these laws were enforced uniformly, or for their actual intent, I wouldn't have a problem, but I'm a little PO'd at something that happened to me a few months back. I got pulled over and ticketed in Attica on the west side of the state. My major violation....my front license plate was in the front window, not on my bumper. Did it matter that I was in transition between Michigan (who requires no front license plate) and Ohio? No. But I'm sure the rear plate reading "Go Akron" was a dead giveaway that I wouldn't drive 6 hours round trip to contest the ticket! You would have thought I was a terrorist or something. The guy had 1000 questions for me and was convinced there was no way I could have actually purchased the car with my own money (I look way younger than I actually am). Did I break the law, yes. Did I pay the fine? Yep! Would have cost $40-$50 in gas just to get there and back, so no use in fighting it. Later that day, I did a little survey and counted 11 cars from Ohio in 15 minutes of driving on the freeway with no plate on the front. End of rant.

You know what, I'm really not that worried about this. I have a feeling we will see some bowl games in the future with teams that have a LOSING record. Basically, if you have a winning record, you will go bowling....unless you are Akron, and then you will get screwed. In the end, if the MAC had an agreement or not, we would somehow get screwed.

Come on, almost there....

So, what is happening is that the big boys are going to schedule cupcakes early on for the guaranteed W and a payday. We are on that "cupcake" list right now. If we start to improve, we will be avoided. Personally, I think that we would have more success in recruiting and with the fan base if we didn't get our faces kicked in every year and actually went to a bowl game. I think the "Mid-Majors" should tell the big boys to go pound sand and dramatically cut back their charity games. They will not come to Akron. They don't mind paying us huge sums of money as they make way more than we do. We continue to look like a doormat. I think we should schedule one big time opponent every 2 years, and begin to focus on opponents from CUSA, WAC, etc. Bring on YSU too. I would rather have some local excitement generated by having multiple local rivalries than to listen to the Suckeye fans make comments about how bad we get pummeled every year. Bottom line, I just want to see the Zips play football! Right now I have to travel all over the place because we can only get 4-5 games in our home stadium while the big boys get 7 and sometimes an 8th "away" game at a very friendly neutral site We pimp ourselves out to ESPN which means of those 4 home games, two of them are going to be late in the season on a weeknight, virtually guaranteeing a low turnout and bad weather.

Well, I have an unnamed source that tells me that the Zips in '09-'10 could play either a Big-10, SEC, Big East, A10, ACC, Big 12, CUSA, PAC-10, MAAC, or maybe another team if they can win the MAC Tourney.
-
Agreed. When everyone else seems to bash this place a the first opportunity, and he does everything in his power to help it out.
-
The only I-AA school I would even consider wanting us to schedule is YSU because of the rivalry and potential for a large crowd. Otherwise, it's not worthwhile and would contribute to the stigma that we have a second class program.I would love to see us Play YSU on a semi-regular basis.

I find that hard to believe. You would think the limit on those would be about....30,000 Give 1-888-99-Akron a ring and talk to someone in the athletic dept. tomorrow. I would guess that the all knowing internet is wrong.
-
Yes, the easiest schedule is the best, whether you are just trying to be bowl eligible (like Akron) or trying to ease your kids into the season, minimize injuries, and pump up your win loss record to make a case for a National Championship (like OSU). Unfortunately, we are one of the "easy" teams so we don't have many others to pick on. I would like to think that we can get some of the "Lesser" BCS teams to agree to come to ICS and we ditch the big boys and our "Payday" games, in which we don't seem to get paid as much as other "easy" schools. If we do have to have a "Payday" game, then we should really make those guys pay out the nose. I don't know what the rules are regarding playing non-confrence games, but I for one would favor playing EVERYONE in our division, and some additional crossover games before we go sign up to get our heads kicked in for multiple games. I don't know how much we are getting to play Wiskey, but I think the difficulty of this years schedule is adequate. Wiskey will likely pound us (though we should still play as hard as we can), and the rest of the teams are at, or a notch above Akron.

What home game are you most looking fowards to?
Zipsrifle replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
Come on...tell me you do NOT think anyone here would want those urinal troughs. But perhaps Can't wants/needs them as a receptacle to dye their piss yellow uniforms!!! I say we donate the urinals and some homemade Zip yellow "dye" from our fans to the cause. Go Zips!!Those urinals get quite a bit of play around here.....I think if they were delivered to the house in a brown, nondescript package, there would be a few takers. -

Last game in the RB. I also want to see a sellout as I've never seen a sold out Zips game in the RB in the 15 years I've been going. Nobody will get rowdy because nobody is bitter. If someone at UA wanted to make some money, they would chop up the field, tear out the bleachers and urinals to sell to zips fans like myself. I've always wanted to buy a few bleachers and put them in my house! -
YES! As a former resident of Michigan, I'm a big Bell's fan. Hopslam and Double Cream Stout!

I can't believe what I'm reading here! If we don't go into a game and bust our @$$ trying to win, then we should just disband the football team and we can all go and root for Can't! Don't get me wrong, I have NEVER been this melancholy prior to a Zips Football season, but we've got to try to win, even if the odds of us winning are low. As for the call goal line call, I've seen the "Proof" of Hendry plunging across the goal line, and there was no goal line in the picture. That's a distant memory so let it go.Now, for arguments sake, if Chuck were back under center, who would he throw the ball to???? I'm hoping we come out much better than expected a-la the Purdue game in '05, but my hopes aren't that high.

UCONN last year, 44-10. We were in this game up to halftime. I use this link for Akron Game Results of yore...http://cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_ia/ma...s.php?year=2005

What? If I had to characterize the JD era, I would say that he has highly ranked recruiting classes that don't play. What good is that? Also, up to about a year and a half ago, we were winning when we weren't supposed to....MACC. How can we be predicted to finish LAST in the East when we had the best recruiting class several years in a row, and some damn good, and getting better facilities? Here's my take. LO put some pretty exciting offenses on the field, but we had NO Defense and there was a SERIOUS "How can we lose this one" attitude on the team. When JD stepped in, we became a "How can we win this one" type of team and he started building a Defense. I think that transitional period put a pretty good team on the field in '05 and early '06. Somehow, after the NC State win, the wheels started to come off and now we have a decent Defense with a predictable and ineffective offense. We are teetering between a "How can we win this one" (ex. Can't '07) and a "How can we lose this one" (ex. Temple '07) type of team. We have holes all over the place on the team that JD uses JUCO's and rearranges our most athletic players to plug the holes. I truely believe that he took some big risks to get in and get out of Akron. It looked like it would pay off, but the bottom fell out over the past few years and, unfortunately, right now we sit looking up at everyone. I don't know if JD can turn this program around. Our offensive strategy is "if it works in the first quarter, it has to work for the rest of the game". He hasn't shown that he knows how to make adjustments throughout the game. I believe he is, now, trying to build a quality program as his get out of Akron quick strategy didn't work. Now he's got to hunker down and do it the right way, which is hard to do in the MAC. Personally, I really believe he was trying to get out of Akron as quickly as possible, so why should we be loyal to him? If he gets another offer, he's gone, probably just like Kelly was at CMU, leaving before their bowl game....that guy couldn't wait to get out of Mt. P. 6-6, he stays, anything less, we get a new coach along with our new stadium, and unfortunately, more "building".

And it better be gold, not Can't piss yellow! I have to say, I think it's gonna have a nice, "Bigtime" atmosphere with the field being below ground level, one end being enclosed by the fieldhouse and the other end open to Exchange Street, very enclosed. BTW, is there another school in the MAC with a field below groundlevel? I know OU has a small mound in one endzone and Western is built on the side of a hill, but there aren't any others that come to mind. Maybe Toledo, BSU, or Buffalo? I've never been to those stadiums.
