  1. Very important point, CK. That extra $240,000 PER GAME will go a long way in our Athletic Department. Over a 6 game home slate, that's an additional $1.44 Million.Seems pretty obvious. That pays a lot of rent and salaries. B) Go Zips!
  2. For me, this is a non-issue.If you look at the numbers, the Zips are likely on their way to hit the stated objective of averaging 18K attendance for the season.Over 3 games, the average is still 21,113 / game.Certainly a big drop off from game 1 to game 2 .. that can't be a big surprise to anyone. The team had gone 1-3 to start .. endured a horrible couple of weeks on and off the field, culminating with an embarrassing on-field performance at CMU, and a bye week that gets people thinking about other stuff .. and 17K+ showed. Not a bad crowd in my mind.It appears to me that they'll hit the target of 108K fans for the season. Can't State will draw well, it always does. Even taking the IU to OU trend and running it out over the remainder of the season has them hitting the number. All this, with possibly one of the worst football seasons in recent memory? Seems ok to me. We don't need to be dropping prices.Go Zips!! B)
  3. True story. So we're on the way to the Info last night .. my buddy, his wife .. and the boy. Now on the way in the car, the boy had been asking when we were going to go to "Zippy's Basketball House again .. because soon I will be 5 and when I am 5 .. Zeke will be playing for the Zips!!" .. the boy accompanied me to some AAU tournaments 2 years ago where we randomly happened to see a really tall player from the Pittsburgh area play some ball .. and while there, the boy had some fun running around with said player's younger sister. So my buddy and I laugh .. tell him that hoops is about a month away and that we're going to Zippy's new football house to see football. Boy's not impressed apparently, and asks another question .. " but will Zeke be at the football house?" ... I don't know son.So wouldn't you know it, we get in the stadium, head to our seats, and on the way .. we run into Daryl, Brett McKnight, Nik and Zeke. The boy is pumped .. even if a bit shy .. and I start chatting it up with the guys. They complement me on my 2009 MAC Champs lid that I had on .. and I ask how things are going. Everyone seems really pumped for the season and ready to get back at it.Meanwhile the boy has now started to give Zeke a high five .. 34 inches or so off the ground, to which the big fella says "that's a low 5." The boy tries jumping .. is having a great time getting to 40 inches or so. So then Nik comes over, lifts the kid up in the air, and tries to help, and the boy's hand is now hitting Zeke's elbow (his arms stretched out). Eventually I think Nik got him high enough to reach.Made my kids weekend. Before kickoff. Great ambassadors .. all of them really outgoing with the fans .. and fanatics .. and in giving my guy a few minutes of attention, really made his day. It's SO easy to root for these guys I can't describe it. Great to see them out and about Saturday.Getting in the car, the boy says to us: "That was really fun .. today I got to see 2 people I really love: Zippy AND Zeke!"I really can't make this stuff up ...Representing the Zips and UA in a way we can be proud of is an undervalued strength of KD and his teams, IMHO.Thanks guys! .. and good luck this week as you get back to full time action with the whole team. B) B) :champs:
  4. Rodgers injury was the only positive on the game, he was killing us with his stupid play in the first. Fumbling on the goaline, interceptions, just stupid football. After this post .. you ought to take a week off from the Nation. What an embarrassment.Go Zips!
  5. It must be the perception that people around WPIAL are starting to get. The Zips win .. a LOT .. and there are some WPIAL guys that contribute to that. B) B) Go Zips!
  6. All .. please don't revisit this topic to the point that another thread gets locked. If any of us forget your last volleys on the topic we can always refer back.Go Zips!!!
  7. I believe that yesterday, only 29 days after starting the job, the first "Our new AD has an evil agenda and is gonna ruin everything" post was generated. Haven't had time to search for the first finger pointed at Mack, but I have to believe from memory that it took him a little bit more time to raise the ire of a ZipsNation member. Of course this was posted as someone's first post, and it's likely a relative of a recently departed employee .. but none the less, it was there.Congrats, Tom .. I guess. You're officially the AD at Akron when conspiracy theories fly with you at the middle.Go Zips!! B) B)
  8. My toaster runs on netBSDGREAT post. But can the toaster be made to function as a MythTV frontend?
  9. Per Gametracker, it's tied 0-0 @ the half.
  10. Isn't the "Shots On Goal" advantage an even wider disparity than goals?
  11. I hope he stays. Eventually, probably sooner rather than later, Hunter is an AD somewhere. Until then .. if we can have the combined experience & efforts of our #1 and #2 candidates, that's a great thing in my book. Hunter B) Go Zips!!
  12. Plusquellic Pavilion aka the Don DomeFirst Energy ForumThe Dambrot DomeThe city needs a facility like this for downtown .. I don't care what they call it. B) B)
  13. CK, that's my understanding from looking into that awhile ago. 12k for concerts, 8k for hockey .. slightly more for hoops. The City of Akron could really benefit from having a facility like this. I think it's really telling that a FE exec would be along for the ride. Let's hope the Don can get something put together (with UA's support) that everyone can access and benefit from. B) Go Zips!
  14. Milking XP to bypass Vista. Looking forward to 7. You should all really look into freeing your computers, your minds, and your wallets from these 1990's era OS limitations.
  15. You can pretty much tell by the ultra-scientific google method whose fans would appreciate Dakotah being on their team more.Google Dakotah Euton and see what you find.Go Zips!!! B)
  16. nah. its there. For some reason it takes it a while before it shows up. Ive been having that problem here lately..Actually .. it just takes a little while for the moderators to fix your youtube link. You just need to put the video identifier (what comes AFTER the "=" in the URL) between the youtube blocks. Not the whole url.Go Zips!
  17. I will respond to this (newly re-opened) thread through Zach's comment, since it is the one that makes the most sense, and the one I'm in agreement with -- with the exception of the first sentence of the final paragraph. Folks, you need to relax and enjoy this team's success! I know we are talking about AKRON BUT you need to realize soccer is a completely different animal. With the proper decisions and a relative modicum of resources, most any school can be a powerhouse. Do not underestimate the difference between Ken Lolla and Caleb Porter. Ken (who I like and admire) is an excellent coach who can make an unknown or just 'good' program into a top-20, and occasionally top-10 team. But, for him to create a team that could be a strong contender, let alone a favorite to win an NCAA title, is, IMHO, above his ceiling of potential. Caleb Porter, like his best players, deserves the honorific, of being a "special" type of coach. He is the type of personality and manager of people and the game who doesn't come along to ANY school very often. Akron's team will be the favorite to win NCAA titles for the next three years (unless we lose players to the pros, and don't replenish them, an unlikely event). As far as his being "predated" (gobbled up, Jurassic Park style by Velociraptor State), there are many very rich universities which would love to have someone of Caleb's caliber leading their programs. Big Ten schools are hardly the only ones who would offer more than Akron could. BUT, when we talk about soccer, we're again talking about a relatively low ceiling. These schools may be able to offer salaries in the 300k area. Yes, that's about double what he currently makes, but trust me, Caleb Porter LOVES being the coach of Akron, and he knows he can achieve at Akron anything he can achieve at any university in America. AND, everything I hear is, we ARE going to have the facilities deserving of a team as good as Akron and Caleb Porter require to keep the program at or near the top of the pyramid of college soccer. But, please keep up the pressure to ensure the administration commits to funding and building the stadium we have to have. Tom Wistercill seems to be quite aware of how important a sport like soccer can be to a school's overall athletics program. He's been at schools in Wisconsin and Minnesota where hockey is an integral part of the sports culture. Soccer inhabits that same space at Akron, so I'm confident we have a leader who understands its importance, and will do what's necessary to maintain our stature. Now, as to that comment of Zach's about it being "almost inevitable" that Caleb Porter will leave for "home" -- Indiana Hoosierland. Don't OVER-rate the attraction of Bloomington, Indiana. It is not a cultural capitol of anything. Caleb honors IU soccer for what is has been, and what it has enabled him to achieve himself. However, he also realizes anything he could do at IU (assuming they would somehow prefer to have him over his ex-boss Mike Freitag) he can do in Akron, Ohio. Caleb is creating a brand new soccer culture in Akron, and he must realize that while Indiana was the team in college soccer from 1975 to 2005, Akron could own the next thirty years. We all need to be part of making that a reality.HUGE Post!!This applies to all things Zips. The fans need to play a role .. and play it well.Go Zips!
  18. +1I'm reminded of a very funny commercial .. don't remember what it was for or if it was national or not. Now, I'm not comparing Euton to Bird .. it's not fair to him .. But when I lived in NE for awhile there was this comercial where a bunch of guys are in a bar .. and watching a Celtics game with the announcer playing, Bird makes a bunch of great plays .. announcer hear to say "Bird hits the shot .. Steal by bird .. etc .. until the announcer says "Bird Dunks!!" ... at which time the guys in the bar reply incredulously ... "Bird Dunks??!!!" Not calling out Euton as the next Bird .. but there can be good players at every level that aren't the most athletic at that level. Basketball sense, vision, hardwork and a great shot can overcome lots.Come to town Dakotah .. we'd love to have you .. and you'd be a big part of some huge NCAA tournament runs. You'll play over 120 games as a Zip. Good luck & Go Zips!!! B)
  19. Have any of the people complaining walked on a job site in the past few year? The truth is, there are a lot of Mexicans working in construction in the US and the other part of that is they are the only people willing to work hard enough to assemble a building on time. It was not intended to be a knock. Sorry to the sensitive. As the guy who drops the "racism card" whenever you have the chance in discussions about talent level of suburban football players, you ought to recognize a sweeping generalization when you write it.
  20. VERY interested.I've been trying to get the graphics departments and GoZips people to make wallpapers for years. No reply.I recommend using the Gallery Here at the Nation. It's under utilized and would keep things together without needed thread bumping or searching.Go Zips!
  21. Well let's hope that teammate was a ball hog who didn't pass up a bad shot he ever saw .. and failed to practice good hygene!! ;)I know next to nothing about EKU, but I do think Euton would be a nice addition to a deep, experienced squad at UA. Would probably be a situation where he would come in and be asked to contribute to a deep team, but be under less pressure to produce immediately. I hope he signs on. Seems to me like a Faulknor type shooter with more athleticism. While the UK fans seem to paint him in a negative light athletically .. he seems to get up and down the court well .. and that size & shooting ability would be quite welcome at the JAR, and later at the Plusquellic Pavilion / First Energy Forum / Dambrot Dome downtown. After the way that some UK fans apparently have treated him over the last 9 months .. maybe he'd like a fresh start in the Zips Nation.Whatever happens .. good luck to the guy. Nice to have him consider KD & the Zips! B) B)Go Zips!
  22. Don't know about GoZips.com .. but it's great to have the Pinto driving Padre back around! B) B)
  23. McKnight, Roberts and Conyers all graduate. Egner and Green will use 2 of the scholarships, that would leave one more available. Why is there confusion as to where the scholarship is coming from? Am I missing something here? The confusion surrounds whether or not Roberts has 1 or 2 years left. And if he regains his 4th year of eligibility, does Roberts keep the Parrish scholarship or is on a 1 year basis?Conyers was listed as a senior last year, as Roberts is now. But he got the year back. Question is whether or not Roberts does the same.
  24. Could be a HUGE get for the Zips. Another guy who's played at a high level and against elite competition for the past several years.Go Zips!!!
