Super Tuesday .. er .. Wednesday
Zip Watcher replied to Zip Watcher's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Great stuff to read here.Tomorrow's a big day .. gonna have to edit my sig.Go Zips! Go Trevor! Go Zeke! -
What he said. Great post.Zips are 0-0 .. nothing more .. nothing less.

Ma'am, we enjoyed having your favorite player on the team. We all really did. He was a big contributor. During that time, the Moderators tolerated some of your false rumors and trying to stir up dissension. It's natural to hope one's favorite gets more playing time and can be a bigger part. I'll never question that. But now that you don't have a purported "inside feed" or agenda to get your player more PT .. knock it off. Thanks & Go Zips!ZW

A few more observations:- The Zips will be fine on offense. I think the run and gun will be fun to watch. For me, B & C McKnight and McNees will offer good options in the half court set. Bardo's increasing offensive arsenal will help also. Add to that the new guards' ability to move and score in the open court & on the break. And Linharts "let it come to him" game ... Zips should score plenty.- Defense was horrid. Can't say it better than KD did on the radio. Nobody was good .. not everyone was terrible, but no one was good. The closing lineup of Steward, Roberts, Conyers, Linhart & C McK was the best of the day. I do think that a lot of the issue was "playing together" rather than playing hard. Effort didn't seem to be lacking, but the communication and help D was lacking. I think Bardo took some fouls on cleaning up other guys' messes coming down the lane.- Good news is that this is all fixable. You can't teach quickness and athleticism. They can teach defense. - Ronnie appears ahead of Humpty at this point. But I have confidence that both will play important minutes and help this team. Lots of depth in the backcourt. It's tough to really play 4 guards .. but KD has 4 talented ones to rely on. 2 of which have big game experience.- Frontcourt looks promising also. CMcK can step up. BMcK can score (can he defend? that we will see). Nate is Nate .. Jimmy can provide a defensive spark .. and I think Bardo's going to be better than anyone imagined. The dude is HUGE.Best thing about this exhibition is that they got some time against another team. Were able to score the basketball, and nearly lost because of no D. That gives the fans some energy (the scoring), gets some of the jitters out of the young guys and gives KD something to work the guys over about. I suspect they'll be a bit better next week.Last year, they were pretty bad in Alaska .. but it turned around. I anticipate the same this year.Go Zips! Go Trevor. Go Sharpen your pencil Zeke!

Why are you a Zips fan?
Zip Watcher replied to ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net's topic in Akron Zips Football
Attending Zips hoops games w/ Dad as a kid soon after moving into the area in 1979.1986 OVC championship @ the JAR sealed it forever. -
Why would anyone think we've "GIVEN UP" on anyone. He didn't play last night. Means he's not in the top 10 on a deep team, 1 game into his RS freshmen season.Patience is in order. Steve's a work in progress with lots of time.Another thing perhaps .. we know that Steve's not going redshirt this year, so seeing other people in the scrimmage (Cvetinovic) was more important than Sweich.I can't understand why everyone is so quick to bury this guy after one game .. and can judge from 100' away what he's thinking during the game on the bench.Go Zips!

@ Road FB games, doesn't he hook up a low level broadcaster for Zips fans to listen in? Maybe he can do that at the JAR now.

That's no excuse. Make your own .. it'll have better features. -
I don't know about the seat, but if anyone could go take an electronic photo of the doorless bathroom stall in the mens room of the pressbox side and get it to me, it would be greatly appreciated.Upstairs (outside) or the one below the seats?

Who ever said this was a season in which the Zips were supposed to do nothing? The era of mediocrity ended a few years ago. B)

Rifle ...even if you get a name to go with the face .. please keep it quiet. These things are closed for a reason. If you've got a source that's reliable .. fine, but it's ok to not reveal the source. Might put the kid in a tight spot.Thanks.Go Zips!

As everyone appears to be done talking Zips Football in this topic .. it's now move to Smack.

I think Marshall hurts your argument. You've been saying that the Zips need to win consistently and have high attendance before moving upstream. Marshall is an example of exactly that, and they moved up. For them it yielded mediocrity. UConn was mediocre and has moved WAY up .. and they've used commitment and facilities to quickly become competitive in a BCS (like it or not) league. If we look at Marshall's example and pin to that, it sounds to me like we should roll up and suck our thumbs, accept our plight in a sub-standard conference arrangement and be happy with what we have now. I disagree.Simply put, there are no guarantees in life. No model is exactly right, and we can pull examples from both sides of the argument that have vastly disparate results. However, if we aren't looking to move forward, we're moving backwards. I think the U HAS to target improvement and betterment, that's what it's all about, right?I think we can both agree however, that Go Zips!

You can restate it as many time as you like .. it would still merely be your opinion.Success or failure at a lower level is not necessarily a harbinger of what is to come at a higher level.UConn felated goats for decades in football at the 1-AA level. In the Yankee Conference, now A10 football I think, they rarely if ever ventured into the playoffs.Marshall dominated the MAC. The conference was their b*tch. And they're an also ran in a conference that you say is a better step.Your argument doesn't completely hold water. You need facilities and a commitment to compete to be ready to jump. IMHO that would be the productive debate regarding preparedness to move upwards.Go Zips!

I mean a permanent structure. There was talk when this was unveiled that there was future expansion capabilities included in the design .. wondering if that structure being all below grade allows for deck of seating on top of it.
-
So could they drop a grandstand on top of that thing if necessity calls for more seating?
-
Should this topic not find itself back on a discussion pertaining somehow to Zips Football, it will be relocated to Smack. Not locked .. just relocated.Go Zips!
-
Be interesting to see if that last game ends up on the Big Ten network. Should the Zips hold form in the next 2, they'd go in there as the #2 team .. that could be on TV.

Any scouting reports on the 3 remaining opponents? I see Columbus A&M is ranked, what of the other 2? Any upset risk there? Are the rowdies going to the road finale?
