When we're cold, we're frigid.

Looking like another slow start for the Zips. Hopefully they can pick it up.

Am I the only one who thinks this class is awful heavy on the DB's? I know we lost quite a bit in terms of DB's this year, and we play with 5 of them in this ridiculous defense, but come on, nearly 1/3 of this class is listed at DB. Seems a bit excessive to me.Judging by what I'm reading and knowing how thin we are there it would be nice to see Bain and Harvey able to start on the defensive line with Sewell sooner rather than later. Hopefully Bowser can pick up where he left off at the JUCO level. We are gonna need someone to step up at WR. I'm also interested to see what Bruce can do. I know we are returning most of our offensive line, but from what I saw there last season there is room for improvement. In particular I would not mind Bice and Pachuta getting an opportunity to push for playing time early. I'm also intersted to see exactley how they handle the Fleming situation. I've always thought it would be awkward playing college ball for your dad, and it didn't seem like Will was always that excited about coming to Akron. He's a pretty good player though, can't complain about landing him, just think it is going to be an interesting situation.

Technically we wouldn't be back in first. We would be tied w/ Can't for 1st and they would hold the tie-breaker head to head over us by beating us. Still, it was a nice loss for Can't. Al Fisher was horrible for them in that last minute to minute and a half. I've seen Akron make some big choke jobs, but that last minute and a half for Can't was about as big as it gets. Up by 5 and you foul on a 3 point shot to put the Rockets best FT shooter at the line, then your PG coughs it up and Toledo gets a tip in the other way to tie it, then with the shot clock off and a tie game your PG stands around pounding the ball at mid-court for 25 seconds, before turning it over and the defense can't get back to stop the dunk. Nice to see Can't come unravelled like that for once.

Didn't get out of class until 7:45 tonight, at which point we were down 14 and French sounded like the sky was falling. So to me we won that one by 30. As I understand most of the first half there was ugly, but the game I heard was pretty nice. Roberts seems to be developing which is nice with Cedrick hurting. Bardo stepped up nicely on the defensive end. We really need to get healthy though. With Cedrick, Wood, Conyers and apparently at times Dials playing hurt or sick it's going to be tough getting through the rest of the year. I liked hearing us putting more pressure on teams on the defensive end. Teams have been doing that to us, it's about time we give them back some of their own medicine.21 in a row at home. Make it 22 on Sat.

If there is one thing I worry about for next year it is who is going to step up and be the leader of this team the way Rome and Dru did last year and the way Dials and Wood seem to be this year. I just don't see who that guy, or guys are going to be next year. Maybe we don't need a veteran, senior voice for the team, but I sure think it helps and I'm interested to see if anyone can step into that role.

Drinking in college and then driving? We don't need thugs like you on this board ZipAlumn.... Do you guys realize that just about every kid on the team probably goes out for a drink or two after a game...maybe more than two? The older kids might even buy the beer for the younger kids. Come on guys, this is the just the nature of college kids. If they didn't go out for a drink or two, I would think there was something wrong with them. Boys will be boys...It's not the drinking part thats the problem GP. It's the driving. As someone who lost a family member who decided to get behind the wheel when he was plastered (and took another woman's life in the process) I have absolutely no tolerance for this. It's become such common place in our society today that those DUI plates are looked at as a badge of honor and quite frankly it is sickening. If Singeltary has that little respect for himself, his family and his teamates that he would put himself and the public at large in harms way by doing something so assanine he deserves any punishment that the court system and Can't puts on him and then some.

Temple WR Recruit Flys the Coop
Quickzips replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Just another in a long line of borderline qualifiers that JD keeps taking a chance on that we will never see in a Zips uniform. If he makes it to the practice field at all I'll be thoroughly shocked. If he plays more than 1 year here someone may need to call the paramedics for me. -
Don't know about the rest of you, but after that game. I am REALLY missing Dru and Rome. I can't be too mad at Dials. He's playing out of position and doing the best he can with it, but when was the last time a Dambrot coached Zips team turned the ball over 20+ times in 2 straight games? Anyone have any idea? As for Rome, well I think we have all seen well enough that Woody can't do it all himself inside. Last year guys weren't able to beat us inside like that all the time cause we had Rome and Wood in there to deal with. Now we have Wood, the timid newborn cat (Quade) and two developing guys in C.McKnight and Bardo. Wood does a nice job when matched up against big strong guys like him, but get a big athletic guy in there and he struggles something fierce. Let's get back to the JAR and get this thing turned around. I'm not ready to push the panic button yet, but we need to fix some things this week against two very beatable West opponents at home if we wanna keep the push for a bye.

Thoughts this morning after some time to cool down.First and foremost, this rivalry thing is starting to reach dangerous heights. That isn't a good thing. The hatred that these two teams have for one another makes for a great rivalry, but the hatred doesn't seem to have enough restraint on it and it ends up getting out of control as we saw last night. Hopefully last night was the somber reminder that was needed to get this thing realed back in from an out of control blood bath to a competitive, fiery rivalry. I don't want to see or hear about more incidents like that when these teams hit the floor at the JAR later on. Truth be told, I was regretting not getting a ticket for last night, but after that whole incident I'm kind of glad I wasn't there. We have to get more consistency out of our guard play. Dials is the only one consistently contributing at a high level night in and night out. Cedrick is sadly a shell of his former self. The injuries have caught up to him and combined with the increased playing time he just doesn't have it right now. McNees has shown flushes of brilliance, but last night was an absolute travesty. Roberts continues to progress, but you can't blame KD for not playing him more than he has when the kid has only been with the program for a month. The McKnight brothers need to be on the floor more often. Chris has gotten some criticism this season for an apparent lack of progress, but the bottom line is those two give us better and more consistent play, especially on the offensive end than Quade and Bardo do. Brett in particular is going to be tough to defend. He has the body and skills to play around the hoop and he's got a very good outside shot that you have to account for. Chris is an adequate rebounder and his offensive game is getting better and better. At some point in time Conyers needs to pick up his offensive game. I love the kids defense, but he has no confidence on the offensive side of things and it makes him a liability on the floor.

If what French just said is true then Ham-n-cheese needs to be suspended. Sticking your tounge out and laughing at the opposing players during the handshake is unacceptable. What a no class bullshit move.
-
Anyone that Time Warner didn't screw out of seeing that game want to comment on what the hell happened at the end there. I turned it off, then was told that something was going on, turned it back on. French said Quade and Ham-n-cheese were getting into it and a fan got thrown out and another fan got injured and there were technicals and on and on.... Any explination as to what happened?

Another Zips collapse in the 2nd half. This is just ridiculous. I can't believe we blew a 10 point lead at the half and we've been down by as much as 9 this half. We have no inside presence in the 2nd half. Wood has been taken out of his game for whatever reason and noone else is stepping up. Looks like the streak will end at 4.
-
Turn the lights out guys. Can't about to go in the double bonus and we can't throw the ball in the ocean. Is McNees playing for Can't??? You would think he is w/ the way he is throwing the ball away.
-
This is pathetic. I'm gonna puke.
-
Can't already in the bonus and the Zips are getting into foul trouble. Lead is down to 5. Gotta stop this NOW!
-
I said prior to the game that the Zips needed to have someone other than Wood step up inside, they needed to limit turnovers and they needed to hit a good percentage of their 3's.Through one half we are doing 2 of the 3.The McKnights are stepping up very nicely and that really helps take the pressure off of Wood who is playing out of his mind anyways (when was the last time Jeremiah hit a 3 pointer? it happened tonight). We need to cut back the TO's. McNees in particular has been throwing it away all night. The only savior here is that Can't is turning it over just as much if not more. The 3's have been falling as well w/ Dials, Middleton, B.McKnight and, yes Jeremiah Wood have all hit from 3 point land. Keep it up, play that 2nd good half of basketball and let's bring another win home from the MACC.

The Zip in me wants to say something like Akron-75 Can't-62. A nice decisive victory. The logical part of me says, these two teams are both defensive minded (read: probably not a very high scoring game) and they haven't had anything even close to a blowout in a long time. Home court advantage with Can't, plus motivation on their side from losing 4 straight. Logically I could easily see something like Can't-60 Akron-58.Keys for Akron winning:-Get Wood the ball inside, but also, someone has to step up and help him out down low. If Quade, the McKnights and Bardo all have bad games our chances of winning this one go down significantly.-Protect the ball. Win the turnover battle and we put ourselves at a significant advantage. Dials needs to have one of if not his best game running the point and McNees needs to continue to be effective.-We can't go through long stretches where the 3 ball isn't falling. Sorry Watcher, but I'm still on the wagon that this team needs the 3 ball to be falling to win games. Maybe we don't live and die by it, but it is a huge part of what we do. If the 3's aren't falling it will be tough to walk out of there with a win.

Ok, not quite a seperated at birth but am I the only one who thinks Al Fisher's head looks too small for his body???On to the topic at hand:Antonio DiMariaor K-Fed

Just to Get in the K.e.n.t-Hating Mood

Rumor going around is that Can't is going to have a live Eagle in house as their new "mascot." I suppose anything is better than the giant golden turkey they've been using. -
3 games that stick out in my mind:1) Thursday night at the Q2) Friday night at the Q3) Saturday night at the Q

If I had more confidence in where this program is going I would say we could easily go 3-2 out of conference with that schedule.Wisconsin is a good team year in and year out, and I don't expect to be able to beat them on the road in the opener, likely with a new QB.Syracuse is abysmal of late. They are a team that should be ripe for the pickings.Kentucky had a very nice year this year but they are going to lose their star QB as well as their top 2 WR's to the draft this year. I expect them to be back to the same old beatable Kentucky next year.Army, well, I think we all know enough about Army by now to know that we should be able to win that one.Cincinnati is probably another loss. Brian Kelly has that team playing at a very high level right now. Only thing that gives me a glimmer of hope is that they will be changing QB's this offseason and it doesn't really look like Kelly has anyone on that roster he is comfortable with. Still, they are a much more talented team and even at home I don't see us winning that one.Realistically though, I could see us going 1-4 or 2-3 with wins over Army and MAYBE Syracuse.

Thanks guys, can't believe some of you guys didn't get that one.Read it in a rush @ lunch. I'm an idiot (but most of you already knew that). No problem Cap'n.
