43 just gave a little explanation.Apparently CJ violated an unspecified team rule. Thats why Jacquemain is starting.

Just announced on the pregame show:Jacquemain starting. Will play the first few series and Jackson will get his series. Can anyone figure out how rotating QB's is helping us???

Got almost an identical e-mail from Misson. The guy's pretty much a tool. Major ego trip. Looking for any kind of praise he can get from anyone he can get it from. He basically wants us to bow down to him and his network for even giving a little consideration to the teams. If we refuse to comply he just goes about patting himself on the back for doing it anyways. Got another e-mail back from someone else in the sports department which was much more polite. Didn't do anything other than say that she was sorry, but at least she didn't come back yelling at me for their mistakes.
-
I got 3 seperate responses. One guy e-mailed me twice yelling at me for not appreciating what Channel 5 is trying to do for the MAC, Akron and Can't. I posted that reply in another thread.I got another response yesterday from a lady who was much more polite, but essentially said nothing more than she was sorry I was disappointed.

The other stat that sticks out there.Edelman: 8 of 21. Can't really doesn't have much in terms of recievers.

Where did you find contact info to complain? I search all over their website and couldn't find anything. I sent my e-mail in to 5sports@newsnet5.comHere is the contact info for the rest of the WEWS crew.http://www.newsnet5.com/station/967309/detail.html Thanks. I sent an email but I told them thanks for the other coverage so I don't get berated in all caps. I sent a reply back to him after that all caps reply from him. Pretty much said what I said earlier. The only reason they have MAC games on is because the Big 10 Network is coopting the OSU games. As soon as they get the chance to drop us in favor of OSU they do. It's nice to see where their true loyalty lies. His response was so incoherent it didn't even warrant another reply. Started ranting about ESPN+ and a bunch of other stuff that was totally irrelevant to what I was talking about.

Ladies and Gentlemen: The Wheel Is HOME!
Quickzips replied to RowdyZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
You know, that is one thing I forgot to mention earlier. The last guy left out on the field, thanking the fans. Carlton Jackson. I like that. I always here about how he can be a little cold and not a great leader, but I didn't really see that. You can tell he is doing his best to make this his team. -

I just want to say how proud I am to see the student cheering section at today's game.Very, very impressive. The whole atmosphere was outstanding....from tailgate city to the cheering section in the Bowl.Outstanding!!The thunder sticks were "thundering."A good day to be a Zip! I mentioned it in another thread already, but it was embarrassing listening to the Fuck Can't State chants all game long. We've complained and complained about that coming from Can't for years. There is no reason that we should have been doing that. I was impressed with the quantity of the student section today, but the quality was severly lacking. I know it's a rivalry game, but come on now.

Sent WEWS this e-mail.Just wanted to say how utterly embarrassing it is for the LOCAL station to drop the LOCAL football teams (Akron and Can't State if you guys haven't heard of them) at the most crucial point in the game to move down south for a PREGAME show for that team from Columbus. Your network should be ashamed of itself. There is absolutely no excuse for this. You owe a lot of apologies to a lot of players, students, faculty, administrators and most importantly fans. Consider this WEWS viewer lost. Enjoy your slow dive towards NBC level ratings.Got the following reply from Tom Misson:DUDE...MAYBE YOU SHOULD SEND THIS E-MAIL TO THE OTHER TV STATIONS IN TOWN.ALREADY THIS SEASON, NEWSCHANNEL 5 COVERED THE AKRON/ARMY GAME IN BROWNSSTADIUM... HIGHLIGHTS AND POST GAME INTERVIEWS... LAST WEEK WE COVEREDTHE Can't STATE/DELAWARE STATE GAME WITH HIGHLIGHTS AND POST GAMEINTERVIEWS AND TODAY... WE WERE LIVE ON THE FIELD DURING A PREGAME SHOWAT 11:30AM THIS MORNING... AND TONIGHT AT 7PM AND AGAIN DURING SPORTS ONTHE LATE 11PM NEWS... WE WILL HAVE A COMPLETE WRAP-UP OF THE AKRON-Can'tSTATE GAME. LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN FIND COVERAGE OF AKRON AND Can'tSTATE ON ANY OF THE OTHER 3 STATIONS **COMBINED** AS MUCH AS WE HAVETHIS YEAR. YOU WANNA ONLY THROW US UNDER THE BUS WHEN WE DON'T DOEXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT... BUT YOU DON'T WANT TO GIVE US CREDIT ORREMEMBER THAT WE GIVE YOU MORE COVERAGE OF MORE LOCAL SPORTS THAN ANYOTHER STATION IN TOWN.And yes, he really sent it to me in all caps. Must have struck a nerve or something. Anyways, WEWS goes about patting themselves on the back about broadcasting a few MAC games. Nevermind that the minute they have a chance to go back to OSU they jump at it. Guess we know where the real loyalties are.

Post-game thoughts:-GREAT win for the Zips. Awesome to take the last victory in the Rubber Bowl over Can't. I would have hated to have seen Can't walk out of the Rubber Bowl for the final time w/ the Wheel. It is with its rightful owner.-Did someone turn the lightswitch on for the offense about half way through the third? We did nothing, I mean NOTHING at all in the first half. Came out in the third and fumbled deep in our own territory. I'm thinking man this is it. Then all of a sudden things start picking up.-Jackson is going to make some mistakes, and he's gonna be rocky at times, but he still gives us the best chance to win. He can do things with his feet that Chris can't do and he's really not a huge dropoff in talent throwing the ball from Chris. I feel bad for Chris, but the fact of the matter is that Jackson gives this team the best chance to win week in and week out.-I LOVE having three good runningbacks. Kennedy, Williams and Allen made things difficult on Can't in the second half. When you always have someone with fresh legs to put in the backfield late in the game it makes such a huge difference. That said, we still need a little work on our short yardage sets.-Defense did a nice job all game. Jarvis and Edelman both got their yards on the ground, and I expected them too, but they weren't able to completely control the game like they did last year. Turnovers especially were huge. Who's INT was bigger, Corner's or Tate's???-Don't look now, but the Zips made ALL of their extra points and were 2 for 2 on field goals. Anyone know when the last time that happened?-Admit it, when Can't got the ball back the doomsday scenario's started running through your head. The 2003 game at the Rubber Bowl, Roethlisbergers miracle hail mary, Penno's buzzer beater at the Q. No such luck today for the Flushes. This was our house and it was our game. Now for the bad stuff:-Obviously this has to start with losing Mackey. Just a horrible, horrible turn of events all around. The heart and sole of the defense, a great kid, hard hitter, just loves the game of football. To lose him, apparently for the rest of the season, is just horrible. You have to feel for the kid in his senior year of all years.-Why on earth do we continue to insist on trying that stupid rugby punt??? We damn near gave up a safety on that in the first half. I can't see any reasonable explanation for it. It was another shaky game for Stec, but I've definitley seen worse from him.-We continue to lack discipline. Too many false starts, too many dumb turnovers, too many personal fouls. When will this team learn? We tried time and time again to hand Can't this game with dumb turnovers and penalties. Paris McNeal is lucky he didn't get flat thrown out of the game on the kickoff after Can't's second TD. This is one of the more disturbing trends of the JD era.-We still can't generate a consistent pass rush. There were times today that the midget QB had forever and a day to throw back there. I'm getting so tired of the 335 it isn't funny. It can't stop the run, you can't generate pressure with it. It is essentially worthless. Go to a 43 or if you have to go to a 34, but for the love of god get into a system that actually has a chance of stopping someone.-I have never, NEVER been so embarrassed to be an AK-Rowdie member in my life. The Fuck Can't State chants were classless and uncalled for. That is something I expect to see from Can't fans, but not from the Rowdies. There were plenty of young kids sitting on that side of the field not to mention the high school bands who had to listen to that all game long. No excuse. Just no excuse.-Finally, a big shame on WEWS Channel 5 for going to the Suckeye pregame while the game was in its most crucial stage. I've sent them an e-mail about this, and won't be watching their station anymore. I can maybe MAYBE understand switching if the OSU game had already started, but they sat there for a ten minute pregame at OSU while our game was still going on. Inexcusable.

Zips get the big win over Can't State. Now lets push Zippy over the top. He's down to Hokiebird by about 100 right now. Get in there and vote.

bobby I can't really say I agree with many of your positives.Yeah, it is going to save both universities some money, but where does that savings come from. It comes from cutting administrative employees. Aren't we trying to CREATE good jobs instead of taking them away from the economy???I can't see where merging sports programs is a good thing, especially for us. At this point we are running circles around CSU in just about every shared program. The only program that MIGHT see a benefit for the two schools would be basketball where CSU and Akron both have a decent history and some momentum going, but you risk quashing all of that when you take away the two teams history. CSU doesn't even have a football program. Our soccer program would run circles around them every day of the week. Their swimming program is pretty far ahead of us. I don't even know what else they have, but I can hardly see this being a benefit. The idea of combining programs is just insane when you're talking about two campuses that focus on serving the surrounding community. If CSU is trying to serve people from Cleveland and the surrounding suburbs (almost exclusively) and Akron is serving people from Akron and the suburbs (not quite as exclusively anymore, but still) then both of those campuses need to have curriculum choices that are vast enough to serve the needs of the local citizens. Taking away some of those programs only serves to hurt both universities. If the goal here is to have more Ohio citizens with a college degree you aren't going to achieve that by discouraging people from going to school by taking programs that they may be interested in away and moving them 45 miles to the North or South depending on where you live.As far as the Columbus/OSU points. I'm sorry, but this is not going to draw any attention away from OSU. To think it will is just dilluting yourself. All the Columbus/OSU folks are just going to roll their eyes and turn up their noses at us. It will be a huge joke. I can here it now, "look at the two community colleges trying to think they are us." The bottom line is this is a bad idea for both Universities and both cities. Nothing about this makes any sense at all. It's all about NEUCOM and Cleveland's desire to add it to their supposed MedicalMart that is sadly going to be voted down by voters who can't see past a 1/2% sales tax increase and see the economic value to their own area.

If we had more offensive weapons out on the field to where we could afford to have a game manager at QB Jacquemain would be the right move. We don't. We have Jabari, a rotation of decent RB's and an ever disappearing Kris Kasparek. We need CJ our best athletes on the field right now and CJ is a better all around athlete than Chris is every day of the week. No offense to Chris, but right now his strengths don't fit in with what this team needs.
-
With Edelman and Jarvis as their two "stars" I would think something involving midgets (Edelman is listed at a generous 6'0" 198, while Jarvis is listed at 5'5" 170) would fit right in with that one. Someone who has better access to photoshop maybe can run with that.
-
The thing we are sorely missing, more than anything else is a speed reciever who can stretch the field and compliment Jabari. Jabari is turning into a heck of a reciever, but his strength is in his size. He presents mismatches based on his size. He's not a speed reciever by any stretch of the imagination. We are missing Harvey and Lindsey bigtime. I really wish we had one of those guys back. Just one of those guys to soften up the defense a bit yesterday and I have a feeling that game would have gotten VERY interesting. As far as the QB situation, I still don't know what Jacq. is doing in there. He's got decent skills and his arm isn't that bad, but he's not going to win us ballgames. He's not going to lose us ballgames, but he offers nothing to show that he can win us ballgames either. I'd much rather take our lumps with CJ. He might make a couple mistakes and he might lose us a ballgame, but he can make plays that Jacq. just can't. He's got just as good an arm, he's got more mobility and quite frankly I think he's got better accuracy.
-
Were you watching the same game I was???Jacquemain was off target all game, was a statue in the pocket and was horrible managing the game clock.CJ was at least on target when he got some time, got out of a few bad scenarios created by the offensive line and overall did a better job of managing the game clock. We need athletes on the field on offense. CJ is an athlete, Chris is an arm. Bottom line. I hate to point to Can't as an example, but look what happened to them last year after they got that statue of a JUCO kid out of there and put in the midget who could run.
-
We are REALLY missing Harvey and Lindsey. We've got no deep threat to open up the defense. OSU was stacking the line of scrimmage all game long and daring us to throw over the top of them. Problem is we don't have a WR to do it with. Jabari presents mismatch problems w/ his size, but he's not a speed guy. This is going to be a problem all season long for us.
-
Went to Scorchers with 3 other people. There were maybe 6-10 others in Zips garb. Everyone else (about 30-40) was in Red and Grey. Bartenders except one were all in Red and Grey. Didn't expect much different.
-
Thoughts on the game:-OUTSTANDING Defensive effort. Too bad the offense totally wasted it.-John Stec, where in the heck did he come from. The kid looked like an All-American punter today. Still hate the rugby punt crap, but he didn't get any blocks, he didn't have any off the side of his foot, a lot of big booming punts.-JD HAS to open up the offense. The Suckeyes had 11 men at the line of scrimmage just daring us to try and run or try those stupid swing passes. When you see that GO DEEP!!! We really need a good speed reciever on this team to do that. We REALLY missed Harvey today.-I dunno, can't think of much else right now.

Interesting. I've been casually browsing the OSU forums the last couple days from time to time and if it weren't for a short thread or two you'd barely know this game existed. Most of Buckeye Nation is patting itself on the back for App. St. beating Michigan (you'd think they had something to do with it). A few are questioning the effectiveness of Beanie Wells. Other than that I've barely seen or heard a peep about Akron, or their game against YSU last week for that matter. I must be on the wrong forums. One way or another GO ZIPS!!!

Thoughts on the game. Couldn't make it downtown tonight, but caught most of the second half on FSN.-Jacquemain has some skills, but has a long way to go. He overthrew Jabari a few times. I'm also curious as to why we are set up in the shotgun so much. Is Chris having trouble taking snaps from under center???-We HAVE to find SOMEONE other than Jabari who can catch the ball. OSU is going to double team him all day next week and dare Chris to throw somewhere else. Someone needs to step up.-That said, Jabari is doing a nice job. He missed a few that maybe he should have had, but he did a real nice job of making himself available to the young QB and should be commended on it. You can tell he's Chris' security blanket.-Liked the stable of runningbacks. Any one of them can come in and pick up positive yardage. Like Allen's awarness staying in bounds and picking up extra yards late.-Again, that said. What on earth are we doing trying to run clock with 12 minutes left and only a 2 score lead. That play not to lose strategy almost lost us a ballgame, and it burnt the D out.-Hats off the the O-line. For a bunch of guys making their first real starts they did a nice job. Chris had time to throw and the RB's had some decent holes.-Our linebackers and secondary are as good as I've seen. These guys are REALLY good. Mackey especially is impressive. The kid just does everything, and he's as sure a tackler as you'll find.-Defensive line held their own. I've been real worried about what these guys could do, but they held up pretty well. Very impressed with Sewell, true freshman was never really out of position and was in on a lot of plays.-Kicking game was better than last year but I still can't say I'm comfortable with it. What in gods name is that stupid rugby kick??? It doesn't make any sense. They tried to explain it on 1350 during the 1st half while I was in the car on the way home, but it still doesn't make any sense. Igor, despite a few misses is lightyears beyond Domonkos. -Stupid penalties again. Offsides on a punt, false starts, block in the back on the punt return in the second half. I dunno if I can sit through another year of all those bonehead things. This should have been priority #1 in the offseason.

Appalachian State:34Michigan:32In the big house. Now if we come out and take down OSU next week.....
-
So if I'm reading that column right the starting lineup will be Steward? Dials, Middleton, Linhart/Conyers? and Wood. Man that is a REALLY small lineup. I don't mind the 3 guard sets occasionally throughout the game, but to come right out and start like that is just asking to get owned inside.

Desired future opponents at InfoCision Stadium?
Quickzips replied to joshgozips's topic in Akron Zips Football
Any BCS team, regardless of if they are as good as USC or OSU or as bad as Duke or Indiana would be good.Beyond that any HIGH level mid-major. No more begging the Middle Tennessee States of the world to come play us once this thing is built. Tulsa, Utah, Boise State, Fresno State, heck even Marshall. And for the love of god please no IAA teams.
