All four guys you named there have a good chance.Jabari has the size that a lot of NFL scouts look for, but he's very raw as a reciever. The knock on the big recievers in the NFL is they can't get the seperation necessary from the quicker DB's in the league. I think we saw quite a bit of that last year with him.Mackey would make a very interesting Strong Safety prospect or possibly an inside linebacker if he bulked up. Maybe even a special teams ace.Robinson has had a lot of interest in his career, but he's underachieved vastly. He will surely get at least an invite too rookie camp simply based on raw talent, but he needs to step it up this year if he wants to get a good crack at making it.Kasparek may have the best chance of making it. The TE has become such an important position in the game over the last few years and coaches love a big guy with soft hands and whose can find the soft spot in the zone and keep the chains moving. Of all the guys I would think Kasparek has the best chance at being drafted.

Bottom line is Akron is figuring out (whether they like it or not) that in this part of the country the single biggest economic booster right now is a large, strong university within the city. Columbus (I hate to admit it) has figured this out and has avoided a lot of the economic problems the rest of the state has been facing. Cincy, Toledo and Akron are all playing catch up, but they seem to have figured it out. Cleveland remains blissfully ignorant to this trend and spirals further and further downhill by the day as a result.

 SERIOUSLY nice looking drawings. If the real thing turns out as good, forget about being just the top stadium in the MAC this thing could rival most Big East Stadiums and even a few in the Big 10.My only complaint is that on some of the drawings that are only on ohio.com they have a picture of former Georgia Tech WR and current Detroit Lion Calvin Johnson. Whats up with that? Couldn't find a decent pick of any Zips WR's to put up there?

Hate to burst people's bubble but I recently spoke with someone who is VERY close to this project. Specifically the property acquisition issues. At this point about 2/3 of the necessary properties are still to be acquired. There are still some property owners who appear as if they will put up a fight. The university can use eminent domain as an option if need be, as it is zoned as university area but they don't want it to come down to that. From the sounds of it opening this thing by 2009 is ambitious at best and a pipe dream at worst. 2010 is somewhat more reasonable but not by much.If you guys are looking for a groundbreaking ceremony, don't hold your breath.

A little disappointing in that he started to show that he was somewhat competent at the end of the season whenever Linhart was hurting. That said, I've got a sneaky feeling that Dambrot can find someone better to give that scholly too.

if you seen the article it didnt have anything to do with the program itself. it had to do with the coach. Her and the coach just didnt work out together and someone had to give.... and the coach isnt leaving after being here for only one year, so niki made the choice to leave. Wanna bet part of things not working out with the coach is not liking that the coach sat her butt down at the end of the season????

You have to wonder if Huggins was sitting around his office at Kansas State thinking, "Gee, I wonder how I could make my national reputation any worse than it already is. OHH I KNOW!!!!" Just checked the Kansas State message boards and they are absolutely furious. Can't really blame them. They took a flyer on him when noone else would touch him with a 50 foot pole and now he's taking the first thing smoking out of town. On top of that they have all kinds of quotes from him about how contracts should be honored and stuff like that.I know Huggins is somewhat of a cult icon around here based on the success he had when he was here, but man he is just totally dicking Kansas State over right now.

Coffman WR interested in Akron Football
Quickzips replied to jerryfairchild's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Jerry,Being in the Law, Courts and Politics (Pre-law) program currently and going to UA Law next year I can say affirmitively that if he is interested in studying law this is a pretty good school to go to. Is he interested in going to Law School some day or is he looking at this in more of a Criminal Justice program type sense where he would like to become a Police Officer or FBI Agent? I'd be happy to answer any questions you guys might have either way. I'm well familiar with the programs, classes and proffesors that he'd be seeing with that. -
It is going to be interesting to see just who gets playing time and when next year. I suspect all the guys you listed there will serve the same role they did this year. Bench fodder that can come in at the end of a blowout for garbage time. One question that kind of interests me though, could we have two true freshman starting by the end of the season? Think about it. Swiech is supposedly a guy who will come in right away and be ready to play in this conference. Having him as more of a true center than Wood is would open things up for us a lot. Wood could then move over to the 4 spot vacated by Romeo where he's probably a little better suited. Then you have Steward who is supposed to be a very competent PG, something we don't really have on this team right now. I fully expect the year to start off with Dials at PG and Cedrick at SG, but I also think KD likes having Cedrick there as the 6th man coming off the bench and wouldn't be at all surprised to see Steward worked in as the PG to move Dials back to his more natural position and let Cedrick be that sparkplug off the bench again. Especially if Steward comes in as good as advertised.

Looks like an intriguing enough prospect. I don't like how he stares down his recievers. There were at least a half dozen if not more throws in there that are goin the other way against collegiate level db's. He also seems to be quite skitish in the pocket which I don't like. It seems like his first instinct is to run when things break down a little bit. Sometimes ya gotta run, but personally I prefer a QB who's gonna stand in there until the last possible second before he takes off. Kid definitley has a lazer arm and he's good in the open field. I kind of wonder how his hands are? I know you said he's 6'5" 175 and with his athletic ability I can't help but to wonder how he would look at WR???

I see what your saying sgm. It's great to have a team where on any given night you have half a dozen or more guys who can step up and really control the game and you usually have 4-5 guys in double digits scoring wise. But that makes it tough in those pressure situations when you don't have that one guy that you know is gonna come through for ya 9 times outta 10. Late in some of those close games this year I don't think I was the only one looking around going "ok, who is it gonna be this time???" Bottom line is that team mentality where you wait and see who it is going to be on a given night is just fine so long as SOMEONE steps up each and every night. Hit a night when noone really steps up however and you are in trouble. I guess when it comes right down to it having that one guy who you know is gonna step up is more a comfort thing in knowing that you have that guy than it is a true necessity.

I've got mixed emotions on this one.For one thing, anything that hurts Can't is almost always good IMO. Take away the coach responsible for many of their 20 win seasons and a lot of their good recruiting should, therefore be fine and dandy. But....I personally think that KD vs. Christian is a big part of what is taking this rivalry to new heights. The respect that those two have for each other along with the rivalry is apparent. Those two just get what it is about. Add to the fact that they are both fielding very fine teams and the Akron/Can't rivalry is quite healthy. This is a good thing for both schools and really all of northeast ohio. And....Taking away good coaches from the conference isn't going to help the current situation any. It is just going to hurt it. We need all the top quality teams we can get if we want to get to the point where we have enough respect nationally to maybe get a couple extra post season bids.So while I'd love to see Can't lose their precious JC, in the long run I think it hurts us, and the conference as well.

If it's promoted right the game in Browns stadium could be a very good deal.If it's promoted like most everything else lately, it will probably be crap.

This is a fine defeatist idea if the MAC wants to just keep playing for 1 bid in the NCAA's (tournament champ) and one bid in the NIT (regular season champ). If thats the case then by all means we need to go back to playing every team twice during the regular season and make sure that the NIT bid gets filled by the most deserving team should that team not win the tournament. If the MAC wants to get BETTER and actually maybe have a chance to have <gasp> 3 teams in the postseason or <GASP> even more than 3 teams then we need to stick with the current situation, BUT the MAC office needs to get off their lazy, self-congratulatory butt and come up with a legitimate, strong out of confrenece scheduling plan for all teams. If you leave it where we are at now with a couple of league games chopped off the schedule in order to open up OOC dates AND you make sure that those OOC dates are filled with top mid-majors and middle of the line power schools that we have a chance to beat or at least play close then you boost the overall conference RPI, SOS for every team goes up, RPI goes up and you create a more competitive league in terms of tournament bids. The MAC has taken step one by cutting a couple league games out of the picture, but have left individual teams hanging on what to do with them. As a result you get some teams that are going out and playing teams that are way out of their league on the road all OOC season just for a little payday which hurts RPI and everything else and you get some teams that schedule cupcakes like Tiffin for most of their OOC schedule and the league suffers.

At this point...I think I'd give my right arm to be in the playin game.

The big schools backed off of Swiech after his foot injury during his Junior year. If I remember correctly Michigan State was quite interested and some other big schools. I could be wrong on the schools though. As far as Bardo is concerned I'd like to see him get in more, but with Wood, Swiech, McKnight, McKnight and Milum all there I don't know where he would get much playing time in that rotation. Maybe the following year after Wood and Milum graduate I could see him getting more time in the rotation if he keeps progressing.

The thing I worry about most is our guard depth. We all know Dials and Middleton can play (though neither really seem to be a great fit at PG), but beyond that we have an unproven McNees, a freshman in Steward who is also unproven and bench fodder like Sallee and Goddard. I'd actually kind of like to see Conyers step up and play some guard this year. I think with a full year under his belt your gonna start seeing some bigger and better things out of this kid. With Wood, McKnight, McKnight, Milum and Swiech I like our odds inside against anyone in this division. Linhart is Linhart. Not exactley the MVP, but definitley a great role player. Rybak actually came on and started looking competent late in the season.

Like others have said. I have a REALLY hard time supporting the rest of the MAC with the way we have been treated by the conference as a whole and its fans this weekend and continue to today. The fans who truly realize the implications of this whole situation on not just Akron, but the conference as a whole are too few and far between. As much as I like and respect Charlie Coles, and will try not to stereotype all Miami fans based off of one retard. This post right here makes it very hard for me to be happy for Miami or root for them in the tourney.http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/mac/phpbb/vi...pic.php?t=44747I also think its pretty funny that over at bbs the fans who seem to be in our corner the most are the Can't fans. Don't know if it is just because they feel they were snubbed to (man would I have been pissed if Can't had gotten a bid to the NIT and we didn't) or if they truly do realize that this is bad for every team in the conference across the board. Either way it is kinda ironic.

Way to find the silver lining. Even if it is small. That means we got screwed big time Where the hell were they the rest of the season? Where was all the lip service to the zips when we demolished OU? Where were they when we took down Austin Peay in the braketbuster? Congrats Channel 5 you did a mildly sufficient job of giving us some credit the last two nights. You wanna know what YOU can do to help avoid this situation happening again. COVER THE ZIPS! ALL SEASON! And no, your 5 second highlight and little score ticker isn't covering the Zips. It's just reinforcing the idea that we are a second rate team that doesn't belong anywhere when you spend 2 full minutes discussing the Buckeyes and how Greg Oden has a sniffle and might not play in the next game and then spend 5 seconds telling us "ohh btw, the Zips won tonight." That isn't coverage, thats a joke.

That last interview with KD was live.
-
Pretty much.In my opinion that was as worthless as it comes. And then they cut KD off while he's still talking. Great job there guys.
-
Just about to start. Watching the 11 o'clock news that leads into it and the anchors almost unanimously said we got screwed. Combined with that shot of the team watching for their seeding I think you can pretty well eliminate that we turned down an NIT bid. Never know though.

Wrong. If you add Tiffin in we had 27 wins this year. The selection committee would only look at 26. ???I've looked at ESPN and CBS sportsline... both have them at 26 wins including Tiffin. Unless I counted wrong on the official team site I found 26 wins. I'll go back and double check it.Gardner Webb-1Niagra-2Oral Roberts-3Binghampton-4Winston Salem-State-5St. Francis-6Loyola Maramount-7Youngstown State-8Miami-9Bowling Green-10Can't State-11Buffalo-12NIU-13WMU-14EMU-15Ball St.-16CMU-17Ohio-18Austin Peay-19Bowling Green-20Duquesne-21Buffalo-22Can't State-23CMU-24Can't State-25Ok, so I got it wrong, my apologies.
