  1. Its one in the morning and I just read Game Changer's, post. My heart stopped. I love this man. I talked to him so many times at Zips games. He was a true warrior. God bless Beth and the all four of the sons. Integrity of the game ... !!!!
  2. Congratulations on winning a tee shirt and a beer mug.
  3. Caleb Porter is a class act ... !!!! We will be there to WILL our team to the first of the victories needed to secure the 2011 Championship. I will be there .. will you?
  4. This mock draft must have been put together a while back. It has Arnett Moultrie of Mississippi State being selected by Denver at #22. Zeke got in this kid's head so bad that he had "sit me down, coach" kind of game against Akron. No way is Moultrie better than Zeke.
  5. I suppose that I should have only stated that coach Faust was kind enough to talk to me at length. He gave me several what I would call "juicy" bits about what is happening. Then, he changed his mind and said, "please do not publish any of this". Yes, he wants us to give coach Ianello a chance to turn the football around. The basketball coaches seem to feel pretty much the same way. No coach likes watching a fellow coach being pilloried. Coach Faust wants a NEW, much larger basketball arena to match the football palace. He also mentioned moving to a new, much better conference. I can not reveal what conference he had in mind. But, most of its members are east of us. Keep in mind that upon his retirement coach Faust could have moved to South Bend or back to Cincinnati. He chooses to remain in Akron and be associated with our university. Honor him for his loyalty.
  6. Mississippi State would be going to MSG even if they lost to both Eastern Kentucky and AKRON. These tournaments are preset for a large local and national television audience. Some years back a mid-major upset a big boy and went to MSG. The reaction was awful as far as the promoters were concerned. With the performances of Butler and VCU and others in recent years in the NCAA tournament it might be time to allow mid-majors go to the semi-finals instead of treating mid-majors as bastard step children. The Zips have a great opportunity next season when they travel to Puerto Rico to take part in the Great San Juan Shoot Out. This is the tournament where Akron first laid wood on Mississippi State.
  7. Based on good information; do not expect an official announcement until next Thursday. Latest word: Two are signed; third expected Wednesday; announcement on Thursday. Please do not ask who is not signed; technically I do not know who is or is not signed.
  8. Don't we need the row and tier number as well?
  9. Where are all the put downs for CSU scheduling a softie two days after a tough games? Is Gary Waters as dumb as you posters think Dambrot is? Or is "Grins" just as wise?
  10. I would stand in a blizzard to watch the Zips play soccer. Hey, I did up at Northwestern a couple of years ago. That was a brutal game. And, to lose on a wind blown fluke made the bus ride home miserable. We owe them one. But, alas, we wont get revenge this year. This is a tale of two teams going in opposite directions. Northwestern is "peaking" and the Zips are stumbling. Western Michigan used the clues put before them by other teams. They substituted freely (fresh legs) and doubled down on Maddocks. Case closed. Zips lose 2-1. A sad end to a heart breaking season.
  11. Good point. Watching the of games on TV it struck me that rarely did you see a player finish strong to the basket. Quincy goes to the basket without hesitation.
  12. I'm old enough to remember the 1980s young man. They had a much bigger win back when I was walking uphill both ways to school and cars were still driving through campus. GP1, are you speaking of CSU's upset win over Indiana in the NCAA tournament? Like other posters I loathe CSU as much as I do Cant. CSU's win over Vandy was nice for them; but, remember, Vandy was playing without their All-American point guard. Even the TV talking heads admitted that Vandy was not really a top ten team. Still, a nice win about equivalent to Akron's win over Mississppi State. We need to take care of business when we play Cleveland State. Leave no doubt.
  13. None of the rest of us are that old to remember that song. You will have to go this one by yourself.
  14. There are a lot of people in prison for stealing a hell of a lot less money than this.
  15. Would Yurachek take the job? Cap'n, good post. You are correct. It is a package deal. Wistrcill has to go first so he does not have to fire his friend. That said; Uncle Tom can save his own job if he cuts Robbie loose at the end of the season. That means firing Ianello immediately after the Western Michigan game. Well, in kindness, do it Monday morning. An early open job would be attractive to potential head coaches including an under valued Luke Fickell. I'd take him in a New york minute.
  16. I especially like that he is living up to his profession to play great defense. Of course, this was not mentioned, but, if you watched him you saw it. Proof: two steals. Q is six-seven; mites make steals, not tall forwards. That is good defensive pressure. Better still was watching him run the point and make excellent decisions. Quincy is much more than a shooter. Excellent all round player. More awards to follow.
  17. g-mann17, GREAT LETTER ... !!!! I fully expect that you will get only a form letter or no reply at all if you failed to give your name, address and phone number. Dr Z's, form letter repsonse is a hoot. Good job. g-mann, your letter gave me an idea. Why not we invest in tee shirts that have LOSING IS NOT ACCEPTABLE HERE one one side and fire Ianello NOW ...!!!! on the other? They would quickly be banned at Zips basketball games and other events unlike Cant crap or Suckeye rags.
  18. KD promised on the post game show that the Zips are in for a grueling week of practice. They will prepare for both games at the same time. Team probably getting on the bus right after Thursday's practice. IMO, our offense is way ahead of the defense. Unusual, but fun. November is a tough test for the Zips. The only easy mark, Hiram, has been played. If the Zips exit November 6-0 you will start seeing Akron in the near Top 25 also rans. 30 to 35 would be my guess. Like a 90th best team should get rated.
  19. Cleveland State punched an over rated Vanderbilt in the mouth. To be fair, Vandy played without their All-American point guard. Still, an excellent win for CSU. Ball State nearly punched out Arizona having led most of the game. That would have given the MAC two road wins over SEC teams. BGSU struggled against SEC team Georgia and pulled close at the end. If BGSU and Ball State capture victories the MAC would have a great RPI. Darn, there's that old woulda, coulda, shoulda. Dream on Zips.
  20. Point well taken. Neither of these individuals would play at our current level. May success follw them both. Go Zips ... !!!!
  21. Hey, folks, give the Lady Zips some creds and come watch them play Friday and Saturday in the Women's NIT. Akron plays Howard and Drexel faces Detroit in the second round of the WNIT preseason tournament. Both games at the JAR. Now the Lady Zips got thumped by number two ranked Notre Dame 81-61 in South Bend. But, as Z.I.P., stated, any differential under thirty puts Akron among the elite in the MAC. Think I'm kidding? Notre Dame thrashed Indiana State 94-39 on Sunday. Ugly. Come out Friday and Saturday and support the Lady Zips.
  22. Or because the Hiram coach benched his star player from an extended period in the 2nd half? #23, not going to look up his name, burned the cords and the Zips repeatedly. Our perimeter defense is awful. Our opponents know by now to keep reversing the ball and make us defend which we fail to do. It looks like the Keystone Kops out there when the Zips call their switches (often missing the switch). Seems our star athletes are more interested in scoring than defending. No way should a Hiram team get over forty against the current crop of Zippys. Ball reversal on the perimeter against a zone is the way you attack a zone. Akron rarely plays zone defense. Thus, our guys are not staying with their man. Why?
  23. For sixty-five bucks you get a round trip bus ride, a game ticket and a good dinner. Now, how can you beat that? Well, beating Huggy Bear and his current crop of thugs would be a nice finish to a great day. Check with George Van Horn or call the Akron ticket office at 1-888-99-AKRON
  24. Good post. Good observations. Treadwell has developed into a D-1 college player much quicker than anyone anticipated. He brings a new dimension to the game for Akron .... MUSCLE. Let us hope he enjoys muscling opponents.
