I would be shocked. You are easily shocked.

+1 You are much closer to the truth than you realize.

Deji Ibitayo's wing span truly impressed me. At least twice he picked off a Detroit pass and a rebound that looked to be out of his reach. This young man is so talented it may be a blessing that Alex floundered. Quincy performed well. He seemed to enjoy the challenge. I gave him a big thumb's up as the team went in at half time. He immediately grinned from ear to ear.

I'm absolutely scared $H!+less about TW making another coaching decision. If anyone heard Wistrcill with French at halftime of last night's game, there's good reason to be scared. He made it sound like it's his baby. I walked out to my car during halftime and listened to the Tom Wistrcill interview. In my opinion the AD shouldered the blame and the responsibility to move forward. I thought it was an excellent interview. AD Wistrcill skillfully side stepped the "does it have to be a coach who has only ever coached an Ohio team?" An obvious reference to Jim Tressel. During the second half I spoke with our AD and complimented him on his tactful side step. When I suggested that for my money I would love to see coach Tressel as a Zip. Tom struck up a Cheshire cat grin and told me that it is not out of the realm of possibilities. Stay tuned ... i have a feeling.

Ahh, I hate posts like these. So enigmatic. Can you elaborate at all? What makes you say this? Frat house rumor? An overheard conversation? twitter/internet rumor? Pure speculation? I'm hanging on to any Jim Tressel rumor because I want it to be true. Luke Fickell would normally be my first choice. Have we forgotten that Luke has already coached at Akron? He did well enough to get himself hired on to the Jim Tressel bandwagon at Ohio State. Kudos. Paul Winters seems to have won his spurs resurrecting a truly moribund program at Wayne State. Paul sure has support in the Akron camp. However, if he is willing to take the Akron job one man stands alone. Jim Tressel. Whether you like him or not is not relevant. What coach Tressel can accomplish for Akron is relevant. Coach Fickell is basically untried. He has no recruiting experience. He coached a tainted Big Ten team for a season. And, all things considered, performed pretty well. Coach Winters has done an outstanding job at Wayne State. Kudos. Unfortunately, coach Winters has zero recruiting experience with division 1A caliber kids. I am fearful that he would be stuck with the same one and two star kids that Ianello could reach. And, that spells the same problems coach Ianello had. Little real talent. Is this fair to Akron or coach Winters? Coach Tressel has many years experience recruiting three and four star caliber kids. His name carries a mountain of credibility. He can recruit these kids to play for him at Akron. If your goal is to be mired in the lower echelon of the MAC or even slide back to division 1-AA by all means show support for coach Winters. Coach Fickell could probably elevate Akron to the upper tier of the MAC a few years sooner than Paul Winters could. Maybe. Coach Tressel can put the Zips at the top of the Mac in three or four years at the most. More importantly, coach Tressel could lead the Zips up and out of the MAC and into a far better conference. Yes, for real, the Big East where Akron actually belongs. I am older than most of you. I remember the days of being the big dog in the Ohio Athletic Conference. You know this conference, its division three and where Mount Union currently rules. Is this where you want to be? For years we put up with then old foggies who constantly lamented that Akron belonged at that level. And at every step upward they whined that Akron could not succeed at the new, higher level. Yet, Akron has. And, some will respond to this post with the same woeful doomsday predictions that it can not be done. Now, I ask all of you, which do you prefer; to be national champs in division three football or National Champions in division one soccer? National champs in division 1-AA football (ala YSU) or national champs in division one soccer? And, a sports program member of the Big East where your Infocision stadium had to be expanded to its full 68,000 capacity because you have more than 45,000 season ticket holders? What is your vision? Short sighted, hopeless or visionary and always looking upward? Do not coach Porter and coach Dambrot deserve and have earned the opportunity to coach their programs at a higher level than the MAC? For me, I want to see coach Jim Tressel lead the University of Akron into the Big East and the caliber of sports that many thousands of fans point to as their school. Go Zips.

Please define some one "good".

Well, no to Winters it is then. Pluto just wants more "little engine that almost could" stories. +1

This man, Jim Tressel, best be the Zips number one choice. Mr. Tressel has all the experience, tools, connections and drive to quickly pull the Zips out of their nose dive. All other coaches, especially Paul Winters are suspect. Akron badly needs a coach that can get all aspects of the job handled. That man is Jim Tressel. Do you want to remain mired in the cellar of the worst football conference in Division 1A? Or, would you prefer to become a BCS school? Only coach Tressel can deliver that goal at this time. Take the blinders off. Go for the best available coach. His name is Jim Tressel.

This is the worst possible scenario for the University of Akron. If this happens, both Ianello and Wistrcill need to feel the wrath of the fans and forced to resign.

What Quincey has to do in order to stay on the court is shut down Ray McCallum. This is the key. We can not afford to have McCallum go ballistic on us. Quincey gave himself the task of becoming the Defensive Player of the Year. This is his first real opportunity to show his stuff. Forget how many points Q gets; if he can dish 8 or 9 assists and hold McCallum to under ten he will be the Zips player of the game in my book.
-
This is reason enough. You could have saved yourself a lot of typing. GP1, you really do not get it, do you? We are Zips fans. We want Akron to excel; including football. Venting our spleens may seem irrational to you; to us it is a catharsis.

I'd take Rob Ash, the current head man at Montana State. He has coached in Iowa, Montana, and most importantly Pennsylvania before so he would have some interesting recruiting connections, not to mention he is a successful and experienced HEAD COACH that tends to stick around for a while when he gets a new job. An intelligent and wise choice. Wont happen.

The point guard position is going to fall to Deji Ibitayo. Please give him a little time to come up to speed. Deji is quite capable and will excel soon.

NOT buying season tickets or even single game tickets is the single loudest voice you have as a fan. You are dealing with Academia; that means they are Liberals. They always see things through rose colored glasses. They have not spent enough money; been given enough time. Oh, I'm sorry, we were talking about football here weren't we? Remember kids, a Liberal is a person who firmly believes that you can pick up a turd by the clean end. Oh, by the way, its Bush's fault.

If he gets another job, which he will, we only pay the difference. He's not gonna sit on his ass for three years and collect a paycheck, otherwise he'll never get back in. We'll only end up eating a very small fraction of this contract. small fraction? With the last two years on his resume, who is going to pay him a large fraction of what he currently gets? Last year at OSU, Luke Fickell made about $200k. I expect Ianello to end up getting paid somewhere between $100k and $150k as a BCS position coach. So in a best-case scenario we're on the hook for maybe 2/3rds of his salary. Who in their right mind is going to hire Ianello at a BCS school?

I have seen those dice up close. There is just one dimple on each of the faces.

Should Tom Wistrcill be fired for hiring Rob Ianello

Well, it is a rebuilding job now. Thanks, Tom
-
There needs to be a mercy rule. If the Zips lose today .. they fire Ianello.
-
Thanks to these two quick touchdowns Ianello qualifies for a two year contract extension. Lordy, Lordy.
-
False start. Is WMU coming unglued?
-
Touchdown AKRON ... !!!! Fumble recovery in mid-air and returned 70 yards.
-
Scoop ....Ianello fired at half time of the Western Michigan game.Akron football officially on life support.
-
Scoop ....Ianello expected back for his third season.Akron football officially dead.

The most insightful and intelligent statement made this entire thread.
