And I can't wait until they all have a great shooting night the same night. And, I hope it comes at West Virginia.

akronzips71, keep an eye on Egner. You are under evaluating him if you believe that Josh is not as athletic as his mates. Josh is Zeke's back up at center because he can out jump any of his companions. Josh is a small/power forward being asked to back up a quality seven foot tall center. He has a lot on his plate and will deliver.

This is as good a report on the Zips as I have read any where. Great job. I am convinced that our four forward line up against MSU left them totally baffled. Now one can argue that Walsh was the point guard when Alex sat. But, basically, Walsh was playing as a forward along with the rest of them. When Alex was on the floor there was little doubt we were running a single guard and four forwards. This is a look I have not seen before from Akron. It is a great weapon.

No, not a deep problem. Just looks like Chauncey looks lost out there. I am positive he will shake it off and soon be ripping the cords. He is one fine ball player. Have faith.

Keeping tabs on the Zips non-conference opponents
GoZips replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Cleveland State easily beat an over rated and point guard-less Vanderbilt. CSU controlled the paint at both ends by clogging the middle. Even though Vanderbilt was a good bit taller than the Vikings they blundered by forcing up weak shots and poor rebounding. The Commodores gave away a game they could have won. Hats off to a scrappy and dangerous CSU. One other factor was CSU's relentless and sticky defense. Their defense is better than Akron's because they guard with hands up. The Zips are still playing defense with their hands in their pockets. It ticks me off. No way should Hiram score over 40. Our defense is still loose and soft, like baby poo. Sorry, I am calling it as it is. Agreed, that the TV announcers gave Akron a lot of good pub because these guys called that game. It was music to the ears. -
Want Ianello Fired? Send the Message to Dr. P
GoZips replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips Football
Tom Wistrcill will NEVER fire Rob Ianello. His bloated ego will never permit that. I love your suggestion to bombard Dr. Porenza with well wishes. TW's plan is to wait three more years and then "evaluate" his protege. -
Brian Walsh is the back up point guard. Who would play the point? Granted, Walsh has a hot hand at shooting early on. And, I, for one, believe he will continue to score prodigiously. The current rotation is just fine. More difficult at this point is where is Chauncey Gilliam? He is a no show with a ton of skills and talent. p.s. Deji Ibitayo is NOT going to be playing this season. He and Blake Justice will be red shirted barring any unforeseen injuries, etc. Nick Harney What are you smoking? Pass it around. Actually, if people noticed, Quincy Diggs handled the point on a few possessions in the Hiram game. As of now there does not seem to be a clear delineation as to who is playing what position half the time. It is one helter-skelter line up on the floor most of the time. In both the Mississippi State and Hiram games the Zips often had FOUR forwards on the floor with either Zeke or Alex taking the fifth spot. Go figure.

As we suffer this gawd awful beat down of Akron football I just wonder where the failure to perform portion of Robbie's contract is hidden. Seems to me that a few years back Porenza stipulated that any coach that finishes last in their sport gets sacked. It is high time to invoke this clause. And, all future major sport contracts need a two and done clause if the coach can not deliver. There is no excuse to hold the University to paying a buffoon for five years while every sports fan in America laughs at our dumb ass administrators. You reading this Uncle Tom?

How much louder can the voices of Zipsnation get?
GoZips replied to RowdyZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
If the Athletic Director, Tom Wistrcill, is feeling any heat he sure is not showing any signs of discomfort. Maybe Uncle Tom is as clueless as Rob Ianello. Just a thought. IMO, each year wasted on Rob Ianello will take two years to repair. -
Only, after a sweet, productive interview with former football master, Gerry Faust, he instructed me that I can not publish any of it. Suffice it to say that we need to give coach Ianello more time, keep the love up for KD and Caleb and things are gurgling in the nether regions that bode well for the near future. Coach Faust is the greatest living Zips fan; bank it.

Cute. Saw Zeke working on his short hook shots after practice. Looks like he has two broken legs and one thumb was in a cast. He will be just fine if .... Dambrot does not kill the entire squad this coming week as KD expects that both Valpo and the Dukes will be gunning for us and our kids are suffering from swelled heads after stomping a weak, lazy, unmotivated Mississippi State. Again the question arises: defense? what defense? we sucked on defense

Based on good information; do not expect an official announcement until next Thursday.

lol really? What did MSU think we were doing at practice, playing tiddly winks?Sorry if you do not "get it". Early season practices hinge onrunning fundemental drills. The Zips did that in August.More recently many of the drills and sets were specifically tailored to what Mississippi State runs on both their offenseand defense. They read our boards just like our people read theirs.Dambrot wanted this win and he got it. The Zips were great.Question for you zippy5, you think maybe MSU coacheslooked at Akron tapes and had an assistant coach at the JohnCarroll game. Okay, they had two coaches there that night. -

Are you serious? The sixth man is the third or fourth best playeron a team. You NEVER want a let down when you sub in.I have NEVER called Diggs the sixth best player on the team. Norhave I ever implyed that.My thoughts on playing Quincy as the sixth man is based on his excellent skill set. He can ably play three different positions.Toniight he showed poise and leadership which I very much like. -

That's called coaching.A Mississippi State poster wrote, "if we had their coach, we win". -

I think shutting down Moultrie was far bigger than Reggie Sydney.Bost's two early fouls hampered him all night.Anyone who thinks Mississippi State is over rated has a screw loose. The Dawgs got beat by a better team that was better focused andbetter prepared. Akron spent two weeks of drills working on shuttingdown MSU's favorite attacks. (note: I could not post this before the game lest they get wind of it.)Depth, depth, depth ... and Demetrius Treadwell played his butt off.He is the tenth man in the rotation. We are the 90th best team in the NCAA div-1 ... a lot of you believe this. -
In convo with coach Kest she stated that Notre Dame is banged up andmay have as many as three starters out for the game.Go Zips ...!!!!!!!!!!

Ninetieth best team; no way top twenty-five; sweet sixteen; GoZips is full of ........Maybe we need to play all our road games in Mississippi in front of Quincy's family. -
I do not like Joe Paterno. I have not liked him ever since heran up the score on the worn out Zips one hot summer afternoon. That said, let us get current. It appears that coach Sandusky is indeep, deep do do. He is still presumed innocent until proven otherwise. That is the law. We live by it.Skering coach Paternao is wrong. This is presumed guilty by in action.Perhaps JoePa did fail to follow an obscure law, Maybe not.At any rate, why are Zips fans enjoying Penn State's problems?Penn State is NOT a rival school even though Akron and PSU meet inseveral sports.

Yes, it was a huge over match. In talent, size, speed, but not grit.Ohio Dominican matched grit with the Lady Zips for forty gruelingminutes. Grit alone rarely wins games. Grit did not lead to a victoryagainst an athletic, poised group of Lady Zips who pressed full courtmost of the time. This led to numerous ODU turnovers and easyAkron baskets. The Lady Zips started both halves with long, uncontested scoring runs.Assisting the Lady Zips was good ball handling that minimized turnovers;go get them rebounds and EXCELLENT on the floor communication.Twelve of thirteen Zips played. Every one scored. The thirteenth LadyZip might not have dressed as she was in "sweats" the entire contest. The one freshmen who did play, Brittani Thomas, started slow thenfound the grove and contributed well.IMO, the Ladies were hitting on all cylinders. Either they are a really goodteam or ODU is really, really bad. Frankly, I believe coach Kest finallyhas her style of team in place and the Lady Zips will have a great year.Let us hope they give Notre Dame a beating. Go Lady Zips.
