  1. Found a fairsized write up and comments on our guest, Zeke Marshall, at the Deadhawk squabble.Zeke Marshall
  2. Miami is a dangerous team. However, their win over Illinois is not so great after all. Illinois lost a few nights ago to Tennessesse State who earlier lost to the Zips.I just hope the AK-Howdies show up in force and make the Deadhawks miserable. Perhaps I might even restore the AK-Rowdie moniker if they succeed.
  3. Good point, uakronkid. Kansas found the key to destroying Miami. We can follow suit and roast them the same way. We have the tools.
  4. jeaglet, a couple of points for you ... 1) The clock was running when Dials received the outlet pass. There were 2.4 seconds remaining when the free throw was attempted. The score keeper stops the clock on the foul. If we watch in slow motion with a super imposed clock we would see that Dials probably started his shotwith about one second remaining. Thus, .3 seconds to shoot is irrelevant in this case.2) Having attended the game and dealt with the game long high intensity of the arena environment, I can assure you that the Flyers knew from the start that the Zipswere ready to play. Two Dayton coaches spoke on the radio after the game and both commented that the Flyers knew going in that Akron came to win. There wasno let down. Dayton jumped to an eight to two lead opening the game. Does that sound like playing without heart? The Dayton assistant coach stated that he thought the Zips were a BETTER team than PITT. I agree.Z-R ... what? Dials went to the free throw line TWICE where he deliberately missed the second shot. The time Nick missed the rim on the second free throw was the firsttime. Then score was 82-79 then. The free throw made the score 82-80. Dials misses the rim; the ball is awarded to Dayton on the violation. The Zips promptlyfouled. The Dayton player makes the first free throw making the score 83-80. On the second attempt the ball rattles out and the Zips gain possession. Dials receivesthe outlet and is fouled. Now, the second time is similar to the first. The Zips are down three. Dials makes the first. This time he hits the rim, but a Flyer tips therebound away. Time expires. There was no bad coaching. The Zips are well coached. I find it incredulous that you are nit picking. The real issue should be the pathetic officiating. The Zips stafffound EIGHTEEN bad and/or missed calls when they reviewed the game tape. Since you watched the game, I presume on the video link, you should have seensome of the bad or missed calls. Two really stand out in my mind. One was the hefty shove in the back Nate Linhart received when penetrating the lane. He was shovedso hard that the ball weakly went from his out stretched hand. The Flyer fans taunted Linhart with "air ball". Had that been a UD player they would have protestedso loudly the game would need to be stopped to calm them down. No call. The Akron bench protested loudly and long. The other bad call I remember that I will point out was Dayton's Brian Roberts driving into the Zips Darryl Roberts. Darryl clearly had position. Darryl was calledfor a blocking foul. UD's Brian Roberts shoots two, makes both. Since I was privvy to reviewing this in KD's office today I assure you that the coaching staff wasquite upset with the bad call.
  5. A-Z-B, sorry, you are wrong. It should have been called a three shot foul. If you actually watch CAREFULLY, you can see that Dials was cocking his arm for a long heave at the basket. With 0.2seconds remaining it was his only option.I attended the game. Sat with Jeremy Sallee's parents high up in the nose bleed section. Even from there it was obvious that Dials was attempting make a desperationshot. If anything, it could also have been called a flagrant INTENTIONAL foul (which it truly was). Over twelve thousand Flyer fans let out a very audible collectivemoan when the foul was committed. They knew instantly that Dials was going to the line to shoot three and tie the game 83 all.Mike Foote is a fine, decent, honest referee. I respect him. That he attended Cant and played for them is of little consequence. The bad call; it was a bad call; robbed the Zips of the opportunity to win or lose the game by their own hand. The game is tainted.Z-R, not sure of what you are speaking of. The two times Dials deliberately missed the second shot the Zips were trailing by three points at the start of his trip to thefoul line. The Zips were down by two points after Dials made the first attempt. Nick missed the rim on the second shot. He was aiming for the rim. He missed it.Congratulations to the players. They played the game of their lives. A few Flyers fans have the mistaken notion that they were "flat" or looking past the Zips.Nothing could be further from the truth. Dayton opened the game with a lead. The Zips responded and out played the Flyers the second ten minutes to take a sixpoint lead into the locker room at the half. Both teams played outstanding basketball. The closeness of the score and the quality of play on both sides attests tothis fact.KD engineered an excellent attack plan. Occasionally one hears a player's parent rant that KD did not use their son the best way, etc. So be it.
  6. Disgusting. Four years a student, three years as Zippy and off supporting the Suckeyes. Where did your parents fail you? Is your entire dysfunctional family in therapy?Sadly, I must support the others that request that Eric Baker NEVER don the Zippy costume again. So lame.
  7. Hey you haole, Z.I.P. ... !!!! Da Islans iz foe da bruddas whad iz kama Ai'ana witch jew hain't. Or iz jew kama Ai'ana now? Please advise.Mele Kalikemaka, too.I would be saddened greatly if brudda Zippy is attending the Suckeye hoosgoaw. I think thirty lashes with a Can't State gal's worn out bra would suffice as punishment.Wait, do dem Can't State ladies (choke) wear bras? Darned if der dance team needs one between them.
  8. Forget the silly RPI and equally silly SOS. UIC is eight and four with quality wins over the likes of Bradley. They will give the Zips a taste of upper echelon MAC type play. This is a do not miss game as the young Zips head into conference play. Saturday night, date night, if she wont go, dump her or you may end up with a lifetime of nagging and regrets.Let's get all you AK-Howdies out. Yes, I wrote "howdies". Until you sips prove other wise, you are just "howdies" to me. Fifteen to twenty Howdiesat the YSU game. For shame.Yep, I'm a prick. I tell it like it is. Be there. Throw rocks at me if you dare. I'm old and slow. Not to mention phat. Go for it. Razz me. But, youcan't if you aren't in attendance. Wussies.
  9. Begging your pardon, Cap'n. What you suggested has been done in the past. The original format for the Rock 'n Roll Shootout (now defunct) was a double headerbetween two local MAC schools and two big name opponents. In the beginning it seemed to work, albeit, neither Akron or Cant in those days could put up much of abattle. Soon Bowling Green wanted in on the action. Then Cleveland Sate insisted they be included. Political correctness soon buried the "Shootout"It must be remembered that at best, the Gund is a neutral site. Bring in Ohio State and it becomes a home game for them at 130 miles off campus.Several major-majors are mildly interested in playing in the Gund against the Zips. Properly promoted it could be successful. During Bob Huggins years at Akronthe Zips played Pittsburgh (then ranked #3) in a close hard fought match in front of over 15,000 people. The game was played in Richfield. Which, would be a farbetter venue for the Zips playing off campus. We have the Gund today largely due to the influence of then Boss Hog White a former Cleveland mayor. But, that is another story.Properly promoted, national TV, HUGE name school, bus loads of UA students, yeah, timed right, could be a great lift to the Zips program. Unfortunately, I could be wrong, but I strongly sense the real reason we have not faced Gonzaga is because the coaching staff is reluctant to get the team toasted as part of Gonzaga's annual "Battle In Seattle". The Zags routinely blow out big name schools at this event. The Zips or KD want to play in Spokane, not Seattle. As much as I love and admire KD, his reluctance to sub in younger players in the second half of games shows me that he is far too conservative with scheduling.
  10. Dayum. I am awe struck. SGM has said something profound and intelligent in a post. This has to be a first. SGM, you are 100 percent correct. Its all part of the"who is the Sports Information Director" game played in Zippyland. The winning prize is two tickets to Orlando for the Capital One Bowl game. You leave Januaryfourth and return home on the ninth. Four free nights at the swank Motel 6 just two miles easy walking distance from the stadium.I, too, saw a crappy Cant billboard on I-76 in downtown Acorn. The shame of it all. Will the dissing ever cease?Nine hundred registered, tee shirt wearing AK-Howdies and only eight of them have access to a PC. Thus Zippy had a hell of a time in the mascot contest. All the Howdies must live out of state as nearly fifteen of them bothered to show up for the Youngstown State basketball foray. YSU had more fans in the JAR thanthe Zips did. Talk about embarrassing. Well, what the hell, UA kids are all Suckeye fans from birth anyway. Transfer to ColumnAss you fruits.
  11. Parish nets 14 and SEVEN blocks in Northmont's first loss (5-1, 2-1).Tough Loss
  12. Anthony "Humpty" Hitchens (note the "E" in his name) nails 25 and is not even the star of the game. Sure hope KD and crew have an eye on this Ray Chambers kid. Most likely KD or other members of his staff were in Cincinnati Satuday the 22nd to see these kids play.Sweet As Sugar
  13. Wow, ZIPMEISTER, you have much better connections than I do. In fact, you seem to know more about next year's schedule than Coach McFadden does. Truth be told, we know we have home games with Dayton and Winthrop next year. We begin a home-n-home series with Wyoming in the Fall of 2009. First game of that series is suppose to be in Laramie. Getting a series with Gonzaga is high on the to do list as is a series with Creighton. Western Kentucky might be a nice series, although I haven't heard them mentioned. There is a possibility of a home-n-home series with Xavier. It was talked about during the preseason scrimmage. That scrimmage was a one time deal engineered byXavier for their own purposes. Butler would be great. But, alas, the only likelihood of that would be to snag them first in the ESPN Bracket Buster. Wright State wont play us here. And, we are not giving them a freebie. As for Oakland, Marshall, Valpo and Austin Peay, the Zips have no interest in playing these opponents. There is no game with Temple unless the MAC has changed its schedule. The series with UIC concludes this year as did the Binghamton series. The other games were bought just like the Wyoming game was. It was nice to see in print in the ESPN column that the Wyoming game was a bought game. I think I reported that a couple of weeks ago. I believe there is an option to play another home-n-home with YSU. However, that is contingent on what other scheduling the Zips can do. Some one mentioned Cleveland State in a post. Not going to happen any time soon. Coach Waters burnt some bridges that are not likely easily repaired.I know that Lamar and a couple of other schools are interested. But, none of them are going to get any one excited about playing them.I doubt that Cincinnati has any interest in a home-n-home series with the likes of us given their current state of affairs.Bob Huggins told me, when I spoke with him to congratulate him on getting the WVa job, that he is smart enough to NEVER bring the Mountaineers into the JAR. TheGund is a possibility. But, he said it would have to be a two-for-one deal.I spoke with coach McFadden prior to last night's game against YSU. He has NOT spoken to any of you about scheduling. He told me last night that the scheduling process begins in earnest after the playing season concludes.
  14. KD remarked that right now the rotation is at eleven. He further commented on trying to reduce that to nine. Where is the shiver? There ain't no shiver. The starting five today is J Wood, C McKnight, N Linhart, N Dials and C Middleton. Nice line up.Their supporting cast is: Mike Bardo, a true center and currently in development. At times his presence is needed on the floor. Plus, he needs to get more not less minutes as he will be really needed in conference and post season play.Quade Milum, a power forward in a small forward's body. But, he has the grit and heart of a power forward. He has to continue to play. He is a fixture in the rotation.Steve McNees, a combo guard who plays like he is jet propelled. Steve capitalizes on every minute he is on the floor. Would love to get that fire and energy from the rest of the players. His skill set is rapidly improving. Steve thinks he is Magic Johnson. That is a good thing.Jimmy Conyers, a versatile small forward/shooting guard. Jim can rest Linhart or drop down and play the two guard.Darryl Roberts, the heir apparent at the point. Like most guards, Darryl can play either guard. He is all upside. He is destined to be the starting point guard early in conference play. This frees Middleton to both be that great "sixth" man and to heal. Also, Dials can get healthy by playing less minutes.Brett McKnight fixes all the problems at the three spot. And, he can bang, penetrate, lead and all round motivate the team. How many of you watched as he coached Mike Bardo after Bardo got jammed in the paint resulting in a missed dunk and a trip to the free throw line? Brett showed me more there than his two awesome treys. There is no shiver. They all stay in the rotation. One of the coaches or assistants needs to be a clock watcher to control minutes allocation. Dials needs to get aboutthirty as does J Wood. The other starters 20-25 minutes.Your thoughts? And, where am I wrong?
  15. Strength of Schedule and the Relative Performance Index are both bogus at this time of year.Akron is not responsible for how other teams play. Dambrot and staff are charged with getting their team into the win column. Seems to me that they are doing just that. What matters is late February so far as SOS and RPI are concerned. South Carolina Upstate just jacked their RPI by getting their first ever Div.-I win at SMU. Now,how would you like to be SMU?Temple has an RPI far better than the Zips. Think they could beat Akron given a second chance? Naw.Take care of the business at hand. The team is developing nicely. If you go out and win everything falls into place. I am pleased with this edition of the Zips.In case you have never noticed; the bigs have routinely sharpened their claws on the fodder for many years. no one whines about thier SOS or RPI. So, give it a rest.
  16. Wednesday night's game against the North Carolina A&T Aggies was the coming out party for Darryl Roberts and Brett McKnight. On two days practice and completely out of sync with how Dambrot runs his team the two young men proved their medal in limited minutes.Anyone present can confirm that I was not some "goofball" when I pegged them as impact players. They are the real deal.Darryl Roberts operated as the "two" guard (shooting guard) in his inital game. Coach Dambrot will probably let Roberts run the point Friday against Youngstown.Roberts drained a beautiful trey on his first and only shot attempt.Brett knocked in both his long range shots (downtown treys). He looked agile and flowed well. Myself and I suppose many others thought "oh no" on Brett's secondlong range bomb. The instant thought was that J Wood (got to love him) was launching from beyond his range. Well, it was all net for young McKnight. Beautiful. These two are a fantasic shot in the arm for the Zips. They give the Zips a depth coach Dambrot has never enjoyed previously here. At least ten deep and not enoughminutes.I was particularily impressed with the "three hole" play last night. Aside from Brett, Nate Linhart had an excellent game as did Chris McKnight and Jimmy Conyers. Theyknow now that their minutes are going to be earned on the floor.Chris McKnight looked impressive playing the power forward position just as Jimmy Conyers handled the third guard role quite well. I was pleased with both of them.
  17. We did not all miss the game. I slogged through at least fifty miles (seemed like a hundred) to get to the game. Had to shop up in Macedonia for some MP3 players onsale at InkStop (Z.I.P. a new local chain based in Cleveland). I did attend the game. My thoughts will disappoint you. I thought Houston was a terrible BB team. Learned after the game that they beat Texas Tech (10-1) on the road.Wonder how that happened. I sure never saw it. Houston was one of few teams that managed to turn the ball over more than the Lady Zips. They were BAD.Houston relied on a sweathog sized gal in the post. Cobilyn Hill just bullied her way through out the game. Sad part was that she camped in the paint and not once wascalled for a three second violation. I yelled at the refs through out the second half about it. Soon Sarah Tokodi's clan picked up the lament. All to no avail. On one Houstonpossession I counted to "thousand and seven" when the Zips were whistled for a foul. Hill then made both ends of a one and one.Truth be told, the Lady Zips picked it up the last fifteen minutes of the game and took the game. Had the Ladies played like that for forty minutes they would have run theCougars out of the JAR.While Sarah won MAC East Player of the Week for her performance I was more impressed with Keyla Snowden's play. Keyla changed the game by lacing trey after treyincluding a couple from beyond LeBron's range. Those shots forced Houston to stop doubling Sarah. Which allowed Sarah to attack the basket. The Ladies are a far better team than last year. They do not need old what's her name who was the proto-typical selfish soul.If the new signees just match (reported to be even better than Jodi's current signees) the current players, the Lady Zips will own the MAC in two years. Three greatfreshman (Snowden, Murphy and Sedlack) have come in and complimented the two outstanding sophomores Tokodi and Riana Miller. These five have lit a fire in thesouls of Ashley Beal and Laura Stevenson. Great improvement in their play to compliment the "kids". I am most favorably impressed.I know its winter break, but, but, but, not a single AK-Rowdie in the end zones. Sure would have loved a game long chant of "lose some weight" for buffalo sized Hill.
  18. Be at Wednesday's game against NC A&T. Then decide if they are impact players. I say they are. Most especially Bret McKnight who may well be the best player on theteam RIGHT NOW. If Darryl Roberts emerges as he should, Dambrot will have the luxury of red shirting Ronnie Steward.Friday against YSU should be even more of an eye opener.Really glad to have these men in uniform and a bit sorted out in time for the Dayton game. Now, if I can only talk my son into driving down to Dayton. I'll be a tad trashed as I return from Providence that morning after celebrating New Years with friends.Personally, I believe Zippy kicked some gopher butt. I managed to vote over 500 times Monday morning to go along with 500 Sunday votes, 900 Saturday votes and350-500 each of the other days. Not to brag, just want Zips fans to know some serious votes came from this old laptop.
  19. Coach D said during his post game interview that they will play Wednesday.
  20. The lady writer for WCCO (Minnehopeless radio station) may have tipped us off to a good thing. Then again, she could be wrong. She wrote that the contest endsMonday at 8:59 pm. Now is that fact? Is that CST or EST? The previous contests have all ended at 9:00 am EST.Try voting after 9:00 am. I plan to start voting on Monday at 4:00 am. I expect the contest to end at 9:00 am. I could be wrong. I hope it does end in the morning.btw ... who da heck is "Skippy"?
  21. Cant people do not have any pride or interest in the conference. Beating Zippy is their world. And, yes, it is lame.
  22. Multiple voting is easy.I use Internet Explorer. CLICK on "Tools" at the top of the page. Select and click on Internet options at the bottom of the pull down window. Then click on "Delete Cookies", and the click on the delete button in the pop up. Repeat this for Delete Files. This clears your browser files sufficiently to revote. Then click on "OK" at thebottom. TIP: under Tools change your home page to BLANK This will reduce the time it takes as MSN or any other sites take time to load their home page.At the address line type in capitalonebowl.com. When the home page comes up click on start voting. At this point put your cursor on the updated address which should becapitalonebowl.com/Voting/Default.aspx RIGHT CLICK to get a pull down menu. Then select COPY and copy this name. This will save you another step in voting. When you make new names do this: first create a four character name. Example: LXLX (might even be available) Then create nine more names LXLX1, LXLX2, ....LXLX8, LXLX9. When you go to vote enter "LXLX" on the line when the name goes. Always enter the name first. Second time you vote just enter "LX" and CapOne willshow you a pull down with LXLX. now vote using LXLX9. Vote in descending order. It will quickly become appearant why. If you set your home page to blank you can PASTE the ...../Voting/Default.aspx into the address field and you are off and running to vote again. I can vote about 60 timesper hour using this method. Here's and advanced tip to save time: When you vote leave the "gotcha" code field blank. This will produce an error with new "gotcha" code. But, ah ha, the wait timeis substantially less. Try it. you'll be amazed. Zippy Rules ... !!!!
  23. IMPACT VOTING ... especially next Monday morning ... as early and as often as possible everyone vote, vote, vote.I plan to start around 4:45 AM and vote until 9 AM when it ends. I think the next day begins somewhere around one AM. Perhaps some one can clarify this.Zippy needs as many people as possible to vote early Monday. We can expect a strong attack just we have seen these past two weeks. Nothing makes me believethat Syracuse was block voting when the lead dropped from 2,900 to zero on Wednesday or from +1,200 Sunday night to -100 early Monday morning. I believe thosevoters were not from Syracuse. They will continue attack Zippy this week. Sunday night around 10:30 PM I noticed the lead drop by 30 votes in a matter of minutes. Since this was unusual I suspected a SLAM was on. I had already voted my300 votes or so. I had to make up new names to keep voting. Well, I voted all night. The other voters (about four or five people) voted steadily until four AM. Theymanaged to tie Zippy at 3:09 AM at 22,328. From there they pulled ahead. Fortunately, they slacked off at four AM. Their lead was about ninety votes. I kept voting. It appeared that only one person was voting after four AM. Gradually I cut their lead to about 40. At 6 AM a Zippy voter joined the fray. In 15 minutes we had Zippy'slead back. By seven AM a couple of Zippy voters joined in and Zippy's lead shot up over 100.Then another attack came. Zippy was sailing comfortably at +240 votes when at 7:15 AM the lead quickly dropped to 170. I rushed over to Zips Nation and posted thatZippy was under attack. There were ten users in Zips Nation at the time. They responded enmass. They jacked Zippy's lead up to over 300 by 8:45. It was beautiful.Thank you all that responded. You saved the campaign. This week we must vote our hearts out. Do not take a day off or slack up on your voting. This is a community effort. We can succeed inspite of the hateful personsthat seem to relish doing harm instead of helping. I would ask those who have voted against Zippy all these weeks to do the right thing and join in voting FOR Zippy.
  24. Go vote for Zippy.the 240 vote lead is dwindling FAST.Otto supporters maing a desperate final charge
  25. It is just after eleven PM Sunday evening.Zippy's vote lead is under a serious cordinated attack. At the current rate of more than 250 votes per hour Zippy will be trailing by FOUR AM.If you read this contact people you know and sound the alarm. Unless of course you are satisfied with losing. I am not. I ran out of votes at 450 today.Hopefully there will be a Zippy surge early Monday morning. I am afraid a response will be too late and Zippy is doomed. Thanks to all the lazy people who did not bother to support the cause.
