Interesting Recruit Story
GoZips replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
This guy isn't all that smart. He already failed Economics 101. Let's see, a paid foreducation at any one of a half dozen excellent schools verses having daddy pay histuition at Penn State. For what? To maybe dress for home games. Stand around in the miserable rainHappy Valley is famous for? Verses actually playing for one of these "lesser" schools.Kid is really bright. Kind of like that light bulb in the back of your refrigerator -

Well, my vote for Zippy against OTTO from Syracuse never got counted. Now it seemsthat I cannot even vote for Zippy against Joe Bruin.I tried several times to vote for Zippy against OTTO of Syracuse, I could never obtain their secret code that is used to make sure you only vote once. Thus, I never got tovote for Zippy. Its fraud. Its rigged. Its a fake. It sucks. They cheat. Now with Joe Bruin I see that I have to vote for ALL six contests. Funny thing is, onceI did that I discovered that I still could not get a "gotcha" code. Thus far I have beenunable to vote.Is there a different way to vote? I know that clicking on the link RASOR provided drewa dead end as well.Frustrated. Its rigged. They cheat. Capital One wants a winner from a "name" school. I just checked the Capital One Bowl website. I just now learned that supposedly you can vote every day. I did not know this.Do they give you the code only once per week and that authotizes you? How is thisthing working. I admit, I am confused.According to Capital One: Sponsor is not responsible for technical failures of any kind or any problems or delays arising from any technical, software or equipment malfunctions, computer viruses, congestion on or unavailability of the Voting site during the Write-In Contest any other technical, equipment or human errors of any kind. If Sponsor determines in its sole discretion that there is any suspected or actual evidence of electronic or non-electronic tampering or fraud relating to any portion of the Write-In Contest, or if technical difficulties compromise the integrity of the Write-In Contest, it may cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Write-In Contest, in whole or in part, at any time without notice. They are cheating.

Way to go AK-Rowdies. Sounds like an excellent plan.Being of the quaffing age I'll watch the game at the Winking Lizard in Fairlawn or atthe Galaxy in Wadsworth. Providing, of course, that the Galaxy can actually get WUAB.For the Indiana game they only had The Citadel at Wisconsin.

I, too, wondered about the lack of substitutions. There was a 15-20 minute period midway through the second half where the Zips were totally flat. A&M seemed tobe on the verge of punching in a goal several times in that time frame.Later the Zips got some zip and pretty much dominated the Aggies.

As long as we are whining; I want to add my two cents about all the "no call" holdsCant enjoyed. Some of those holds were so blatant that I thought the Cant player wasgiving polka lessons.I wondered about the shove down of Jackson. It occurred in front of at least two officials. No call. That must be why Dink Martin came off the bench to complain to theofficials that his players were not called for a personal foul, since Dink is such a truesportsman.Give us a break.Karim Massey was a "good" kid? Hell, he have a reputation throughout his collegeplaying time of being an aggressive, vicious thug. Before you yell racism, that wasCharly Coles opinion of Massey.Hey Cant fans .... AKRON 27, Cant 20Deal with it.

Cap'n, what TV channel or cable channel is the rebroadcast on?tnx

Hey, Old Man, nice to hear that you are still kicking. Any thoughts of making the trekup to Fairbanks. Coach Mcfadden tells me that the Zippers are staying at the PrincessInn.I tried snagging a ride over to Bloomington without success. The UCONN game will notbe played in Storrs. They play forty miles west in East Hartford. Their stadium is threetimes as far off campus as is the Rubber Bowl.I agree with you about UCONN being quite beatable. Will this be our second "upset"in a season bound for several Zips "upets"?Got to find a local pub showing the game on TV. The Winking Lizard in Fairlawn hadthe Indiana game on. Fairly good support except for all their fem help decked outred and/or Suckeyes gear. Someone needs to supply them with a stack of "Fear The Roo"tees in size extra small.Any one headed up to UCONN I am looking for a ride and will share expenses.btw, OM, you getting all your wahines to vote for da brudda Roo?

By the grace of God these nincompoops (Strickland and Fingerhut) will be long out ofoffice before any of these inane ideas become reality..

We, the Zips fans, still have a huge mountain to climb for respect. That includes locally. Most Akron area residents were raised to be Buckeye fans. I know that I was. My ownfather played football at Akron and graduated from Akron back in the 1940's. Still,he was a Buckeyes fan.It was not as visually apparent in those days. Still, Akron was the little school on thehill that belonged in College Division and later Division III. The climb up out of the morass has been long and painful.Wins over NC State and others is gradually gaining support for the Zips. Even playing the Buckeyes close helps. I noticed that the Buckeye fans the local radio morons tendto blame the Buckeye players for "poor" performance rather than attest that Akron wasa darn good opponent. The Zips tested the Buckeyes. That game was part of coachTressel's developmental process in preparing for the Big Ten schedule.Just chide restaurant employees for wearing OSU colors. Do it kindly. Let's make thistown Zips country. My son took me to a restaurant in Mansfield after the game. Someof their workers had OSU gear on. I spoke up. Seems Mansfield considers itself partof the Columbus culture. But, they were willing to admit that Akron gave then a fright.I plan to be watching the IU game at the Galaxy in Wadsworth. I will be wearing Zipsgear.

Lindy's is tabbing the Zips as second to Cant with a shot at taking the East.Athlon has the Zips as the MAC champion and sole representative to the big dance.

You guys are stuck in Clowns town. Try listening to nationwide radio and TV reports.Consider this: Seattle had their choice of Charlie OR Ken Dorsey. They chose Frye.In Wednesday's afternoon practice Charlie threw two interceptions. He also threw a"long, long" touchdown pass. This on six hours sleep and a three hour time change.Mike Holgren and crew admit that they have been tracking Charlie since the 2005draft. Seattle had Charlie penciled in as their next pick when the Clowns took him.Seattle considers that they "stole" (their words) Charlie from the Clowns. That ugly dark grey overcast hanging over Charlie the past two years has parted toreveal great rays of golden sunshine.I think we will look pretty spiffy in a number five SeaHawks jersey.
-
I just hope that Charlie is up to speed by the time the SeaHawks play the Clowns. And that Charlie is allowed to burn them in a few offensive series.Phil Savage, Romeo Crennel and Brady Quinn did more to turn my stomach andmake me an anti-Brown than all the miserable years of losing ever could.Move over GP1, I am now a Steelers fan. My close friend, a life long Steelersfan, and a big Charlie supporter has finally won me over.

Wow ... George Orwell, call your office. Animal Farm lives.Strickland and Fingerhut are a pair of flaming Liberals (some times referred to asCommunists). Strickland's plan reeks of uber control. Cut the free marketeconomy off at the knees. Communists and arch-Liberals always seek to over control anything they can get theirpaws on. This is just another example of a power grab. If there are nine PhD programsin Ohio it is obvious that school administrators would decide on their own that theirinstitution is not or is succeeding with that program. The market will easily determinehow many PhD programs in history the state school system will support.Given past history we can count on mandatory disciplines at x number of schools generations after that discipline has fell by the wayside. Example, print journalism israpidly becoming a technology of the past. But, the communists, er, liberals musthave control and the state will keep 15 print medium journalism colleges. After all, that's where moonbats and liberals come from. Central control, ooops, a central university, in this case, Ohio State, pumping millions of dollars into the governor's town. Gosh, who'd of thunk it?BOW WOW smacks of smog405 or GP129. By the way, why insult a universitypresident? Was that for your own pleasure or power grab? Oh oh, I forgot, as a liberalyou have no respect for anyone other than your own kind. And his name is Luis, notLouis.Hey, hey, isn't a name like Luis Porenza an obvious minority? I thought you libberslove minorities. Oh, I forgot, you hate the uppity ones like Clarence Thomas,Alan Keyes, Alberto Gonzales, Condolezza Rice.

New stadium: soccer friendly? Expandable?
GoZips replied to LosAngelesZipFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
Two quick hits.Lights. Check out the drawings closely. You will see light towers on the visitor's side.Lights are in the drawing of the home side all along the top of the structure. Well done.Ohio Stadium. Its neither truly ugly nor a shining example of a well designed stadium.Over all, its fairly nice. Nothing great, but not butt ugly either. The renovation that impressed me was Carter-Finely (hope I got that right) Stadium. The home of North Carolina State. That was easily the best college stadium I have ever been in. Over the years I have watched the Zips play in such places as Nebraska,Oregon State, New Mexico State, Ohio State, Purdue, Illinois, Iowa, all the MAC schoolsand a host of others. While never watching the Zips play there I have seen a fewgames at Aloha Stadium. Most noteable being Notre Dame beating the Rainbow Warriors on a last second field goal. -
Why are folks in a lather over Brady Quinn? He is not going to be a factor on this year's team. It is a rare situation where a rookieQB (ala, Roethlisberger) is thrust into having to play early. The NFL "seasons" rookieQBs by letting them chart for a season. Then they get slowly worked into the line upover the next couple of years. Here is the way it is going to be played out. Charlie starts. Quinn charts. If Charliefalters Anderson would replace Charlie. If Charlie has an impressive year behind this vaunted new, improved offensive line Charlie wins all the marbles and Quinn istraded for a high draft choice next year. Anderson remains the back up.It really does not matter a whole lot to Crennel and Savage. Anything short of an 8-8season and they both get sacked. Lerner is gasping his last breathes and only caresabout winning now. Lerner could even stupidly demand that they play Quinn at any point. If Charlie falters he will be traded. Forget the meatheads who make stupid claimsthat Charlie is not an NFL QB. He is. There are several teams that would trade for him. These are the same twits that believed Roda and Brennan when they were flapping their gums about how great a QB Troy Smith is. I took heat for stating early on thatSmith was a late round pick at best. Oh no, he is the Heisman Trophy winner. The most worthless award in college football because it is rarely presented to an actual quality player. Charlie Frye a non-Heisman winner was drafted in the thirdround. Troy Smith, fifth, and worse, Charlie would have been drafted ahead of Smithif they were in the same draft.I love bias. It brings out people's ignorance's.Once again I make this claim ... Charlie Frye will earn a Super Bowl ring as the startingQB before the Browns ever get to a Super Bowl game. Play Charlie. He is the future.

First, let me add my name to those who stand in "shock and awe" at the most excellentnew stadium. Wow. Simply cannot believe we can get this lucky. Let us all thank Godthat the University of Akron has been richly blessed with men and women of vision. Especially of note are Dr. Luis Porenza, Mack Rhoades, Mike Thomas, Mike Bobinski, Mike Waddell, and a host of others. A job well done. Excellent. I am thrilled.Tailgating. Ahem, the paved lot next to the stadium behind the field house and theunpaved lots between the JAR and the new parking deck offer plenty of space fortailgating. As I saw at NC State, close in parking is an excellent place to party. Oneproblem with this. Close in spaces are premium dollar spots. NC State solved theirspace problem by charging a fee for tailgating. They used two methods. You canbuy a season pass or a one game pass into the tailgating area. I think this workswell for NC State. And, it could work for Akron.Could the university offer Exchange Street and Spicer Street ground level store frontageto existing property/business owners at a long lease premium? That is, current business owners would receive a permanent special discount on rental costs that makeleasing a store front especially attractive to them? Where would a NEW basketball arena fit into this scheme? The JAR is not really thelong term solution to attracting more fans.Again, congratulations to the Zips community on the most excellent new football palace.

I am not of the opinion that Romeo Travis is on the Cavs development team as a favorto LeBron. I am far more inclined to see Travis as a marginal NBA caliber player as areDials and Fitznoogle (I hope I spelled that right).None of these players were drafted. Which puts them all in the marginal catagory. Theyare all fighting for an opportunity. All of them have a European future locked up.Rome has excellent potential. He needs to do the work to get to the NBA level. The potential is there. Its his call. It is not about getting a look because his buddy is LBJ.If that were the case, you can bet that Dru Joyce would be on that team as well.

ZIPBOY that is as fine a set of intelligent observations regarding Zips athletics I haveever read. You certainly did your homework and understand the working environment.Excellent report.Let me add a bit of knowledge. The JAR is not able to expand its seat count readily. The four huge round concrete posts at each corner support the roof. There is no costeffective means to hold the roof up without those posts. Which as the building is builtrenders the corners useless for seating.People have proposed taking out the no longer needed running track. I have heard thatmove would add 500-700 seats. Since almost no one, me included, knows what theJAR currently actually seats, it is difficult to put a number on just what a sold out houseis. The famous Cleveland State game of 1986 is officially listed as just over 8,000.Anyone who attended that game can attest it was more like in excess 10,000. But,people were crammed in there like sardines.I believe that what KD has in mind for the JAR is to improve the facility, not expand it.The basketball offices need to be larger and more plush. The locker rooms need work. The plan seems to be, improve the current facility, build attendance, let the dust settle from the new football stadium, THEN go after a NEW basketball arena.

TIMMMY, nice find. Do we have the makings of a wide receiver here?

Akron Hoops Sets 2007-08 Non-League Schedule
GoZips replied to midampub's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
My, my, my. GoZips must be a psychic. He has doled out all these games in tidbitformat over the past couple of months. Including, mind you, a home date withDayton next year. The only real disappointment is not getting a game with Gonzaga. But, hang on, thatis likely to happen next season. Note that the Zips travel to Laramie, WY to play the Wyoming Cowboys then. Its an easy jump to Seattle or Spokane from there. -
CAP'N, I never did see any place to vote for JT.One opportunity caused me to laugh. BEST UPSET. Florida over the Suckeyes in football. Where the heck is the upset in that?I wanted to vote for the Zips over NC State as the best upset. Then again, where wasthe upset in that?

ZIPPY, I pray you are right. Its just that every human being has weaknesses. Thedevil always tempts us where we are the weakest. Eric Wright has often shown thathe cannot keep himself under control. Now he has pockets stuffed full of cash. He has free time. He will be surrounded byleaches. He will face many temptations. Sooner or later he succumbs. He is, afterall, just human. He will make a prophet out of me.I want Eric to succeed. He appears to be an outstanding cornerback. And the Brownsneed him.
