  1. I agree with BigZipGuy.I'd be very pleased if Akron wins two out of the road games against Miami, Can't State, BG and Buffalo. My guess is the Zips will beat BG and Buffalo. Can't State has had Akron's number recently. And don't forget the Bracket Buster. Akron will be on the road against a good team.Only if Akron is 22-7 before the MAC Tournament, then they lose the championship game, will I think there's a chance for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.Let's not forget that the MAC's RPI is lower than usual this year.
  2. Yeah, Quick.Heckuva night for the Zips across the board.
  3. Dang, BG just raised the stakes. I've always thought the Falcons were underrated. But I never thought they could go into Can't State and beat the flushes like they did tonight.'blogs.ohio.com/rasor
  4. Second rate attempt at journalism, huh?
  5. blogs.ohio.com/rasorExcuse the lack of refinement in the story presentation. You can pick up a hard copy of the Buchtelite tomorrow morning on campus or visit our site: www.buchtelite.com.
  6. Holy cow! That picture is amazing!
  7. I hate to respond to your attention-seeking post again. However, I must clear up some more inaccuracies.1) We covered the heck out of the soccer team from day one. We had at least one soccer story per week. Once the team achieved national ranking, we went all out on several occasions. Go to the library and look for yourself.2) I never showed a lack of knowledge about rifle in my column. I only used you as an example to make a point about story selection in our newspaper. Read it by going to this site: http://www.buchtelite.com/2005/1122/sports_05.shtml.3) Nobody wants Bubba Walther back on the team. The issue is whether to release him from his scholarship.MODERATOR EDIT: Personal Info deletedSorry to the great members of this site who had to see this childish argument.blogs.ohio.com/rasor
  8. ZippyRifle32,You wouldn't happen to be the same rifle team member who I tore apart in a column because you demanded to be covered as much as the football team, would you?I am a professional journalist. I am ethical. I expect an apology as soon as this story is published. You have been called out for your grudge. You said we should just "let Walther go." Do you realize he's going to a division rival who may have taken him unethically? I'm surprised the university isn't doing more -- such as reporting this information to the NCAA. But who knows? Maybe they will.blogs.ohio.com/rasoredit: I'd like to add that Mike Hixenbaugh is a future star sports journalist. Any college paper would love to get its hands on him.
  9. LOL. I really want to.This could be big, really big.
  10. The story will be published late next week, once the Buchtelite resumes working for the spring semester.Another source confirmed what we already heard, by the way.
  11. Before posting details, I will allow Mike Hixenbaugh to publish the story in the Buchtelite, with both sides given a chance to speak on the allegations.Bubba has his own allegations against Keith Dambrot, so I don't want to allow either side to throw bombs at the other without being given a chance to respond.I will say this: Akron fans will have serious reasons to hate Ohio and/or Bubba Walther if the scoop is true.blogs.ohio.com/rasor
  12. Thanks, Craig.
  13. I write for the ABJ. I've made small errors, like that one, in a business story or two.Not every error is a conspiracy to misinform the public about the Zips.Should the Beacon have covered the Zips more in the past? I think so.That doesn't mean they aren't doing a good job now. Give Tom Gaffney a break.
  14. CK,Like your posts, especially this one, but why the Terry Pluto pic?--Mikeblogs.ohio.com/rasor
  15. Big win for the Huskies. Every game result I've seen from OU and Akron has led me to believe the teams are very comparable. However, Akron must have the edge after spanking OU twice last season.blogs.ohio.com/rasor
  16. I think you are underestimating the fact that students aren't on campus. If the team is still winning by next week, you'll see a much larger crowd vs. Eastern Michigan.
  17. You guys are underestimating Conyers, Middleton and Linhart as future stars. They will need more depth at 4-5 position next year. That worries me.Dambrot must be counting on 6-9 recruit Chris Bardo from Oak Hill, Ohio.
  18. I talked to Mike Thomas about a basketball/football stadium when he was still here. He said it wasn't ideal because the basketball seating wasn't as intimate as teams need for a true home-court advantage.
  19. Her job security can't be high.blogs.ohio.com/rasor
  20. I agree with InTheZone. The ABJ has done much better at covering the Zips.I've always thought good editors cover 1) what people care about or 2) what people should care about, if they don't.As managing editor of the Buchtelite, we covered the crap out of the men's soccer team. Nobody cared at that point, but we thought they should. We also covered the crap out of football, because people actually did care about that.On the other hand, I nearly had an aneurism when two of our columnists wrote about USC. This is the University of Akron, not Southern California. It's a good thing nobody mentioned writing about Ohio State because I have a quick temper in the newsroom about those kinds of things.
  21. This assessment would please me more if the writer didn't give rave reviews for every single team in the MAC.
  22. Absolutely. If Akron beats Ohio twice again, I think top 25 is a given, because of all the media hype that team has gotten.

  24. Nice info, guys. Just a note: Students don't come back for another two weeks. Don't expect a huge student turnout.
  25. ToledoRocket, as dumb as he may be, is right. Boston College will not come to the Rubber Bowl next year, my source tells me. There is nothing to that rumor.
