I don't know how much different it is than any other sport right now (besides maybe the NFL). Only a handful of teams in MLB, NBA, NCAA B-ball (yes, I know dream seasons happen= Butler, Indiana State 30 years ago, etc.) and NCAA football have a legitimate/ REALISTIC shot at a CHAMPIONSHIP. The MAC is the lower end of FBS football= they are the Pirates, the Nationals...and, gulp, the Indians. But the TALENT is still greater than the next level down overall (FCS), the scholarships are the same, and, really, when looking specifically at Akron= SOME of facilities are on par or better than some of the other non-MAC/non-BCS schools and even some of the BCS schools= I could make arguments for Akron's facilities vs. UC, BC, Syracuse and others. Going back to the Championship= that is where it gets a bit cloudier. Many teams would have a hard time getting into the championship game this year unless they are "slotted" high. Some would even have a hard time getting to the BCS. But, yes, BCS conferences have a DISTINCT advantage b/c they are guaranteed a slot in a BCS game if they do win their conference. That is where the biggest argument against the MAC and other non-BCS conferences lies. If Akron started to put together seasons like Boise did back-2-back-2 back...then they could get in that stratosphere of possible BCS team. If Boise friggin State could do it, a team in Idaho in the WAC that plays on blue turf...then it is within the realm of possibility. Of course...Akron better do it soon b/c the next few years are looking like they will bring more of a division btwn BCS and non-BCS schools.

Do you really think it is the responsibility of the coaching staff to update the web page? Gentlemen= I am not blaming the coach for the web page/web site updating. My reference about the coaching staff was much more about the depth chart and making sure it had been submitted to someone (who...I don't know). I'm sure SOMEONE at UA could put together a depth chart, but coaches are responsible everywhere for SUBMITTING (not POSTING) the "true" depth chart. They do have depth charts. They change every day during two-a-day practices based upon the performance of the players in the previous practice. I'm sure if the web master wants one, all he has to do is ask. I'm less worried about depth charts and rosters, and more worried about what they are going to do this Saturday. I don't care about their names, who their parents are, what their favorite snack is, where they are from, what year they are in or anything else other than how they perform this Saturday. It's time to start winning....I really could care less about the person in the uniform. 20+ years of losing has been enough for me. Game week= a 2 deep depth chart should be released. Sorry, but that is the way it should be for a FBS program. Personally..I would like to see if some of the freshmen are in the 2 deep. Who is backing up Carter and LeFrance at WR? Did Bowers beat out Burney for back-up RB? 2nd starting safety? Back=up LBs? Wanting to see a depth chart a few days before the game has NOTHING to do with being "worried about what they are going to do this Saturday". Actually, I take that back= if we see that 2-3 expected starters on the Oline are NOT in the 2 deep (since 1.5 weeks ago there was a lot of concern about the Oline health)= then I am a bit more worried about this Saturday!!!

Orange 26 Zips 17 Still predicting 6-6 for the year. 1-3 non conference, 5-3 in the MAC. Win this and it could change things a TON.

Tough to know the freshman when: A. Not listed anywhere with a number B. No names on the back of jerseys (which I'm assuming we will stick with this stupid "play for name on front" farce)

We need to lock down opponents for next couple years. I think it helps recruiting (I know ZTZ referred to this in some thread). Kids like to see what types of teams they are playing, where they are playing, etc. Some of the other MAC schools are putting together some nice OOC games (Toledo, BG, etc.) without totally selling out and playing 1 OOC home game during a season or getting stuck in 2 or 3 for 1s. Still have not seen FIU 100% confirmed. I hope if it is FIU paired with @ UC and @OSU, that the 4th game is NOT against FCS. FIU basically covers that= not that they are FCS, but they might as well be when it comes to fan interest/name recognitioin. I will accept the lack of a big-time marquee game, but with FIU already on the schedule we need to at least get Marshall or a lower level C-USA/MWC/WAC (what is left of it) team.

Has the 2010 roster, with none of the freshmen on it, and no depth chart. Whether this is Ianallo and someone on his staff's fault or gozips.com fault= bush league. ESPECIALLY the roster not being updated!!!

Tearing down and paving (or gravelling) for parking FOR NOW would be great. At some point (within the next 2-3 years), develop it with the RIGHT kind of establishment. It would be a great spot for another tailgate lot. It would also be a great spot for a basketball arena, assuming we can acquire the surrounding properties as well. Not disagreeing with you at all, but is there space to squeeze an arena between the side streets in that area? Sorry, I don't, off hand, know the names of the 2 side streets that run into Exchange Street "surrounding" that spot (one that runs alongside Route 8, one that runs right next to the Skyway). Seems that it might be a bit tight there, but I would have to look at it again. Come September 4th, maybe I can better answer my own question as I assess the spot on gameday!

What is nice about this year vs. last year= we have 2 guys that have at least played and seen significant action. None of us KNOW for certain what will happen, but it is nice to have 2 QBs that have on field experience and been at the school for at least a year. Yes, different coaches and schemes minimizes some of the positives about being here for 1+ years. BUT, they both should be a little more settled into the college life in general, college football life and what it is like to play football at this level.

Now...we need to get a coaches show...or multiple coaches shows. Might be a bit late for Ianallo and/or Porter this year, but UA has to get going with Dambrot and STO NOW!!!!!
-
Ladies and Gents... This is year #1 of the deal. YEAR 1!!! Let's give it some time. STO is trying to build their brand, and the more that Akron is a part of it the better chance we have to build our brand. Speaking about football specifically= MAYBE we lose a few butts in the seats..but that will be temporary if the team wins. Once the team starts winning, this will just be additional good exposure. Winning will always be the key. And, this can help for recruiting. Some kids might not go to the game (never would have b/c of lack of interest, have not heard of it or really considered it, etc), but see them on TV and start thinking about. "Wow, that looks like a great place". During the game..hopefully we get shots of the stadium, facilities, campus, city, etc. Also, we are getting to more homes and more areas where people were NOT going to travel to the game anyways. If this is at all bad, it is MUCH less bad than good. Much.

Have to say this guys... I go to a few forums for various teams I follow (along with a few that deal with urban development). In regards to the sports/school forums I go to...ZipNation is on the HIGHER end of posters being respectful, thoughtful, etc. I guess, as a 36 year old male, I am probably somewhere in the middle (maybe SLIGHTLY towards the younger end) of the demographics of the board. Sorry to go off topic again, but truly this is a great forum and has only helped ENCOURAGE me to become a bigger fan of the Zips and the University (of which I have no official affiliation).

My thoughts from spring: http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?sh...+derek+anderson In addition: Mar 24 2010, 02:03 PM Post #6 [in this case, we have at least a sample (not huge, of course) of viewing Rodgers v. Nicely in game action. Rodgers was thrown into a bad situation, no doubt. But, you can just see it with Nicely. I never thought he would look as good as he did so soon. Throw out the stats..the kid just looks like a QB, and a darn good one. If Rodgers comes out and beats him, I will be somewhat surprised, somewhat impressed, and at least a little bit concerned about our coaching staff (and their decisions). And somewhere, though I could not find it, I stated how damn funny I find it that people rip on Nicely and have this fear that he will be "Derek Anderson". I will say it again...if Patrick Nicely in college is like Derek Anderson in college...these next 3 years are going to be a lot of fun for Zips fans!

Well, at least Akron is not here! http://cfn.scout.com/2/995246.html Too many MAC teams on there, though. NOT a surprise. -
Helpful site: http://www.downtownakron.com/enjoy/dining Barley House is a good place. Spaghetti Warehouse works good for a large group, mostly b/c it is right on the edge of downtown with plenty of on site parking. Food is solid, but there is better stuff out there.

Catchy, isn't it? Instead of going with the typical "top ten" type list, these are the 12 players that need to stay healthy and play all 12 games (OK... insert GW game joke here) for the Zips to make some noise: Offense= Nicely, Allen, LaFrance, Carter, Woods, Ward and Anderson (7) Defense= Wagner, Waller, Sewell, Thomas, Hazime (5) Perhaps you could argue the importance of Zach Campbell over maybe Hazime or Anderson. Might be a tough sell. I think this team has talent, but I agree with Coach I= severly lacking depth in some areas. These 12 must stay healthy.
-
Coaches are creatures of habit. "We need to go back and watch the film...yadda, yadda, yadda..." Expect Nicely to be named the starter on Tuesday (at the latest) once the coaches have had a chance to watch Saturday's scrimmage and meet together.

Recent WKY Basketball History 9: 21+ win seasons in the past 10 years 5: NCAA appearances in the past 10 years (one Second round berth, one Sweet 16) 2: NIT appearances in the past 10 years I wish the Zips recent history was so downtrodden. I agree..totally. And, I did not realize they had done as much CONSISTENTLY in the last 10 years. My apologies. My reference point (without looking it up recently) was more that there was a time when they were even greater than now..I know they have a Final 4 appearance and probably 6-7 Sweet 16 apperances. I believe Sporting News had them as a top 100 basketball program in a magazine 5 years ago..at that time, they talked more about their past. -

I don't care how it would get there, but my semi-realistic, semi-pie-in-the-sky (can something really be both?!?!?!) hope would be: MAC or C-USA or new name Conference: North= Akron, Temple, Buffalo, Toledo, Marshall and Miami South= WKU, Memphis, East Carolina, Southern Mississipi, Troy and UAB Basketball wise= Temple and Memphis very strong at the top. WKU has a great history, not a ton recently. Akron, UAB, Buffalo and Miami have all had their moments over the last 20 years. Football wise= no real marquee team (Duh), but East Carolina and Southern Miss are consistently strong. Troy has been coming up the last few years, Temple is obviously doing well at the moment and there is some history with Marshall, Miami and a bit with Toledo. MOST of these programs have shown some dedication (ie..$$$) to their athletic programs in recent years. -

It is about to get really crazy. WAC can't stay at 6/7 football teams. MWC might be pushing to be the "Big East of the West"= 16 teams, 12 that play football. WAC might add on or be eliminated. CUSA is going to have to change too. I could see MWC stealing away some CUSA teams. Here is one thing that I have not seen mention of in any article= loss of Big 12 Championship game in 2011 or 2012. Is Big 12 really going to stay at 10? It seems that way. Unless the rule is going to be changed= 10 teams means no conference championship game. That leaves a LOT of $$$ gone losing that game. If true, it is a further indication that that conference is COMPLETELY Texas' $itch! -
Personally..like the videos. Like that he had his daughter with him for one, love the "Go Zips!". Nice work by gozips.com in getting this done daily!

It was, yes Thank you. I have sent an e-mail to my ticket office contact.
