Sure, I get that..but is it realistic? I just don't see Xavier (my Alma mater), Temple and some of the others thinking they gain much from it. Personally, I would have no problem seeing X up here to play Akron, Can't, Buffalo, etc. Besides Butler, I see the Horizon and MAC as comparable leagues. In some respects, this would be another "Bracket Buster" type event. A lot of my thought process is also the fact that 9 teams/schools reside in Ohio, 3 in Indiana, 4 in Michigan, etc.

my own pipe dream or would Dan Gilbert and the leagues sign on to this? Set it up as a 1 day competition for bragging rights. Include 5 of the top 7 teams from the year before in each league (or base some on projections for the upcoming year). 2010's even could look something like One full Saturday of action at the Q: 11:00 Detroit vs Miami 1:30 Wright State vs Akron 4 Valpo vs. Buffalo 6:30 Butler vs. Can't State 9 CSU vs. Ohio Figure first game would be low attendance (people filling in for 2nd half getting ready for game 2), 2nd game would be solid with Akron fans and some WSU fans, third game would be lighter again...however Akron/WSU fans sticking around for a while after their game, and Can't State and Butler fans filing in before their game would help. CSU vs. Ohio as nightcap keeps Cleveland folks, some of the Can't and Butler folks, etc. 1 day all game pass. Perhaps could work it out that one could come and go at least once...or set up special sections tented outside the Q btwn Regressive Field and the Q for eateries/drinkeries. Worth it? If done right, would 10-12,000 people show up (my thought, like MAC tourney, only bottom section would be open)? Obviously 10-12,000 would not be there all day, but if the average person took in 1.5 to 3 games it seems that there could be a market for it. Also, could look to partner with STO for TV or maybe even Fox Sports Ohio/Midwest.

Do we know? Does it go to the highest bidder? RicK Majerus at the JAR would be nice. This team finished 4th in the A-10 this year.

LAX is undoubtedly the way to go.

I get the we don't want others to have a competitive edge. But with Zeke and this kid, MAC overall begins to improve. We should be rooting for a few teams to get these types of players, especially if they are in the West!!!

Comparing it to last year, where Gonzaga was a TERRIBLE draw for Akron, I would have felt better about any of those match-ups. Not saying we WOULD have beaten them, but I would have felt more comfortable in the possiblity of an upset. Purdue w/out Hummel is about a 6-7 seed that garnered a 4. Vandy is damn tough and would have been the toughest draw. Maryland= just not buying them in a weaker than normal ACC. Wisconsin plays MAC basketball..just with better players overall. We certainly could have matched their style and had a shot towards the end (esp with Stevie McNees)!!
-
4 seeds= Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, Purdue & Maryland. OU got a 14 seed, but I do believe Akron would have garnered a 13. I see all those teams as beatable for the Zips. DAMMIT!!! Funny thing is, had we got a 12, I like those match-ups less. 5 seeds= Texas A&M, Michigan State, Temple and Butler. OK, we could have exacted some reveng on Tex A&M, but Temple is damn tough this year, Butler has played and beaten some seriously good teams and MSU is a team with Izzo that could find it again in the tourney and go on a run.

It has been mentioned on other threads, but it is important to keep playing. More games, more practices, more meetings. Most important for one man= Zeke. The more games he gets this year, the better chance the Zips have next year. Yes, it is important for Humpty, McClan, Nik's development as well. And, nice for the seniors. But Zeke is the key. I hope Dambrot gives him as many minutes as possible.
-
Look at the CBI & CIT. Right now A BUNCH of those teams need to get together and set up home and homes. Akron specifically should talk to Duquesne (bus ride to Pittsburgh), St. Louis (how awesome would it be to have Majerus prowling the sidelines at the JAR), Boston University and one of the Indiana schools.. IUPUI or Indiana State.

B. McKnight= work on becoming a 3. He has a great looking shot, needs to get more consistent. But the #1 thing I would like to see from him is to work all summer on developing a handle and working on his passing. What is he listed..6'6, 245..not saying there is a definite weight, but build your body to be more of a wing player..6'6, 230-235. Zeke, Nik and Euton can handle the 4/5 position.Humpty= have to get it under control. Only guard that really, really can be a difference maker in the ilk of Medlock, Bassett, Kool. Have to mature in so many ways, but the potential is there.Zeke= steaks, eggs, malts..7'0, 218 needs to become 7'0, 230 to 235.McNees and Nik..glue guys. McNees, continue to be our "Delonte West". Nik...slow down and you can be the "Anderson Varejao" of the frontcourt.McClanahan and Steward. Nice backcourt depth.7 deep at least. Nice start. 1-2 frosh to get some time, no doubt. But unless one of the freshmen really is big time, it is going to come down to developing McKnight, Humpty and Zeke as our difference makers. If at least 2 of them can make that jump, we might see a season of only 4-5 losses. And you will truly see the team take that next step.

the last 4 games needed to be scheduled next year. If we get a bid, Dambrot/Wistrcill will keep it the same. If we do not get a bid, it is obvious that we need an upgrade for all the reasons many of us have mentioned. My point? Dambrot's argument about current scheduling holds water if we make the NIT. If we do not, his argument is flat out wrong.
-
Considering how we did against the kid from EMU (Medlock?..name escapes me amazingly) and Kool, we might not want anything to do with Bassett after he dropped 38 on Can't.

Miami vs. Akron for the title. Book it.I missed last night's game due to circumstances out of my control. And yet, I feel I have followed this year's MAC and at least 10+ years of MAC basketball to feel confident in this prediction.Saw the highlights, read a little on here= last night stunk for many reasons. The beauty of the situation is it will matter little (if at all), if Akron wins 3 games in 3 days. I will be there Thursday afternoon and Saturday night (Friday might be tough for me..have to devote a bit of time to the family!!!).GO ZIPS!!

Guess you haven't been reading about Josh Egner in the recruiting forum.Actually, that quote of mine was slightly edited by the moderator. And rightly so (thank you). But, sadly, it sounds as if, excluding Zeke, Egner will easily be our most explosive athlete next year. Man, what's that say about the caliber of athlete on the team now? Where are the hops? Where are the rim-rattlers? Where are the players salivating on every fastbreak opportunity?Sure, CMU loses LeFevour and NOW they take them off our schedule. Actually finishing where we did last year I was kind of surprised that we aren't playing EMU in Ypslanti in 2010.CMU had a good recruiting class and has a lot of solid performers returning. Still one of the top 4-5 teams in the MAC according to "experts" for what it is worth. Playing them would have been better than Northern Illinois, but still a good "miss" on the schedule for this year.

16-16 for CSU would, I guess, be the epitome of "average" if we looked at only a team's record. But, let's remember..included in those 16 losses are loses to Kansas State, Ohio State, Kentucky, Butler (2) and West Virginia. Not to mention..CSU makes sense regionally. So does YSU, so does Duquesne, St. Bonaventure, Detroit, Wright State, Niagara, etc.For me, if you are looking at scheduling mid-major teams...keep it regional (with 3 to 5 hours) as best as possible.Really, in the end, 90% of us are talking about the same things= get rid of Malone and St. Francis, add Duquesne and Cleveland State (as regional, mid-major examples) and the schedule begins to feel a lot better.

Indiana doesn't sell out when OSU comes to town, and if they do it is b/c 1/2 are OSU fans.I expect a nice crowd for the Syracuse and Northern Illinois games. Anything else will be tough. For the GW game, they should promote perhaps a 50/50 raffle and/or a combination of that and some $$$ to charity. Something big will have to be done there to get attendance up. Of course, if they beat Syracuse, GW game might not be too bad. STUDENTS, STUDENTS, STUDENTS will be the key for those first couple games.

I was surprised (or I missed it) that this was never brought up. That was quite rough.I like Reghi as a radio personality..for the most part, could care less about the man himself. Went to the CSU game last night= he was sitting about 10 rows from the court (center)..no one within 5 rows of him. I guess he was scouting/staying educated, but it just seemed odd.

3 games in November instead of 4 (most teams play 4 or 5 in November). In many ways, I think it works BETTER than having a bye week.If we have any chance at a bowl game/MAC championship, then the November schedule really plays out nicely for us.
-
I very well might take the trip to Kentucky.Wife's family lives in Indianapolis, so Indy and/or Ball State a possibility as well.

3 games in nice weather on Saturdays= 2 in Sept and Oct 2nd. That is good. Saturday, 10/23= also pretty good. Would have loved to get 1 more in Oct, but pretty happy with 4 Saturdays in Sept and Oct with potentially (historically) good weather.Hate the Wed game against Miami..but at least it is Miami. Should draw a bit better than, say, weeknight against Western Michigan. Two cold weather regions battling it out the day after Tgiving. Not horrible. Again, I like the idea of a game against a possibly budding rival in Buffalo on that date vs. Eastern Michigan. We can hope that both teams are 6-5 or better and battling for bowl bid (yes, I know 5-6 team could also battle for a bowl bid).As for the team itself..UK, IU and Northern Illinois..wow, brutal 3-week stretch!
-
So, from the season ticket package, we know the 6 home games:Syracuse, Gardner-Webb, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Miami and Buffalo. Not too shabby. I'm very hopeful for 4-2 record at home (tough loss to SU, loss to Northern). And we know 3 road games are Kentucky, Indiana and Can't.3 left, then dates. It would be nice to miss Central having Northern on the schedule (and assuming we probably will go to Temple). Temple, Northern Ill, and Central seem to be the favorites going into next year.

They have 1 week off AFTER this game, do they not?If anything, this is a game to feed, feed, feed Zeke for his growth and development.

Are TV Games Important to MAC Recruiting?
xu9697 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
No doubt it is important to have games on TV. But I think that needs to be balanced with having Saturday football.I have said it many times..have a limit of 2 non-Saturday games per MAC team. 1 home, 1 away.Syracuse, Indiana, Kentucky..btwn ESPN2, ESPNU and B10N...my guess is 2 of those games are on, MINIMUM.Regional MAC ABC package, can bring 1 game.2 ESPN2/ESPNU games in November in non-traditional time slots (ie..Tues-Fri).5-6 of 12 on TV, hitting plenty of kids we can and should be recruiting.I think this would be a fine balance of exposure and fan friendliness (for those that want to attend Sat football). -
We are getting there.http://www.fbschedules.com/ACC and Big East have now released their schedules. Trickle down effect now goes to the MWC, C-USA, WAC and MAC as TV games align.
