  1. On the contrary, no disappointment here. Unlike the impact of moving the college basketball 3 point line back a foot and its dramatic effect on mid major programs, the difference between a 5'10" (if that's really how tall he is) cornerback and a 5'7" cornerback in covering a 6'4" receiver is negligible. State Qualifier in the High jump would indicate the height advantage of a 6'4 receiver would be negligible as well.
  2. Florida's 2 National Championships would disagree with you.
  3. If we are 3-1 going into NIU, contact me and I will get you Roo Brew. I feel Syracuse is beatable only because they are breaking in a new QB going against an unknown coaching staff, and preparing for a completely different game plan. They graduated a lot of depth on defense. We can win because we can surprise them. We have a lot of unanswered questions though ourselves. Until the spring game I make no predictions.
  4. Weaker conference = weaker competition = less desirable to recruits = weaker Zips = even less fan support = "DON"T TEAR DOWN MEMORIAL HALL BECAUSE WE NEED A SMALLER GYM!!!"
  5. If Ianello can find talent in Arizona then he's going to have a field day in NEO. He's from Ohio. What are you talking about? Probably referencing his stint as a recruiter during the Desert Swarm days in Arizona.
  6. Or it could be because he's from Westerville and his brother Transferred to OU.
  7. Hmm... Georgetown didn't know what to do, OU was scoring inside and out, Hoyas didn't know which way to turn... That sounds like you admitting that they played bad defense to me. Sounds like you're saying that every time a team scores it's because the other team played bad defense. Why can't it be that OU played good offense? OU won that game because they continued to attack for 40 minutes. They didn't get a 15-point lead and go into a shell and run 32 seconds of shot clock on every play and pray that the defense held up. I never said that, OU scored a lot and easily and shot a very high percentage. Why? Because they got open looks and were able to set up their shot. Now how does that happen? Well because they ran an offense that set up ball screens (designed to get open looks). How does that happen consistantly? Because the defense doesn't adjust. Thus, poor defense. OU made their shots, they deserved to win, but that was the worst defensive performance I've seen in a long time. No adjustment was made, no tempo change, nothing. Let's not forget that good defense on OU's part gave them a lot of fast break points at very critical moments.

  9. I made an account just to respond to this post. Be proud I guess. First of all..Cooper was battleing injurys most of the year, most noteably his knee. The ONLY thing that worries me about him as a player is (unfairly) his size. I'm usually pretty even keel with my fandom for Ohio, meaning I don't let myself get to high or to low with any of the athletic teams, but if you honestly think that Cooper isn't going to be a beast by his senior year - you're smokeing something, and I may want some of it. And we were a 9 seed thank you. Secondly, you can't compare NFL football to college sports. In the NFL, there are no rankings, everybody starts the season at the same spot, and everything (more or less) is settled on the field. When it comes time for the NFL play-offs, the teams with the best records go, period. In college however, everything is based on perception. A strong CMU, Buffalo, BG or whoever in football is good for OU, Akron, and the rest of the MAC. One team CAN elevate the perception of the league, provided there are MULTIPLE good teams (RE: Why the Pac-10 actually does suck). So yes, Penn State and Michigan doing well OOC, in thier bowl games, and against the weaker confrence opponents, is EXTREAMLY helpfull for Ohio State. Finally, as I'll relate this to college basketball, Gonzaga has become a virtual lock to make the NCAA's every year. If Gonzaga is in the NCAA's BEFORE thier confrence tourney, and they lose the tourney, guess what - 2 bid league. While I don't think RPI really truly matters for the MAC (see 2005, and Can't this year) - having a good YOUNG team like OU does will increase exposue not just for OU, but for the MAC as a whole. Oh and then there is that whole thing where the further OU gets into the NCAA's, the more money Akron gets, and money makes everything better. I am sitting here typing this as I recover from knee surgery I had yesterday. A bad knee is a real concern for an athlete, and I hope he can resolve those problems. While it harder for an older man to heal and he is young and fit, the fact is, if he needed to take a year off to resolve that, he should do so. Knees are a career stopper. That being said, just watch the hype this guy gets for the next Ohio game. His play last nite was unreal. Normally I would have no interest in watching any games we are not in, but I put it on because of Cooper and Basset. Then I could not turn it off! Basset is SUPER, but he is put to shame by the moves that Cooper has. Again, it's not only the points, its the assists and rebounds and passes and ball handling. Sorry to say, I think OU is going to get top ranking in the MAC at the beginning of next season, and maybe for a few years after that as well. We had top ranking at the beginning of this season and Can't had it going into the tournament, doesn't really count for much. I'm happy for OU, and this is good for the MAC and us. OU has always been tough and will be next year, they have another guard coming that will likely be huge for them. The MAC is pretty balanced, we just need to find a shooter and work with Zeke to stop the easy drive.
  10. Groce coaches them to be physical on every play. Last night one of the players had to be warned by the ref after bumping the shooter following a free throw. He would step all the way across the paint and then hip push the guy back to get position for the rebound. Nothing wrong with it, it's just their style, be physical, make contact with the other person. Considering who they were playing, if there was something wrong with what they were doing, or it was questionable, they would have got a lot more whistles. When you're small you have to play big, make yourself more imposing, heck there was a play where Basset got the defender off his feet and then he went up through the out stretched arms to shoot and he didn't get to go to the line.
  11. I would like to remind the board, that we have a male flag line member... (he's the thinnest one of them)
  12. So, the Plasma Center is open at 1 am? Just curious. It needs to go, but this incident has nothing do with it.
  13. UA might not be able to, but someone else could and then in turn sell it to UA. Sorry, when I said "touch", I was referring to using eminent domain. If Mannie or Harry for that matter, wanted to sell, UA could be a buyer just as much as any other person or entity. So, I guess that could be a possiblility. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be a probability. And, while the location would be nice for an arena, I'd rather have a new arena on the same side of the street as the bulk of the campus. Students crossing Exchange to get to their arena seems kind of community college to me. So, community college.... Apples and oranges big time! I'm just saying you better get on their board and say "You can't have that Arena, students will have to cross a street."
  14. 96 means the Current 64 and the 32 NIT teams, nothing more, nothing less. The problem actualy is in how they want to do it. Which is 4 8 team "play in" tournaments to fille the 16 seed. So now yeah the MAC has 2 bids, but they get seeded in a "play in" tournament. The other solution was 32 teams get seeded and a bye, and the rest play in to fill that spot. So now a #10 has to play 6 games to get to the final four or 7 games to get to the final and #1 get's a huge breather. The expansion is to limit the "cinderellas" it's not to help them. Applying this to the KD era...We still only get to the dance once because the bids will likely be tournament winner and regular season champ.

  16. You poo poo a lot of the sports based off your pre-conceived notions and not legitimate reasoning. CSU has fencing, well they also have basketball and soccer, OSU had all those sports before either of us. Plus fencing isn't about fan support it's about catering to a type of student (foreign). It would be as low cost as Rifle and is Coed. Rowing doesn't have a body of water? Nimisilla is a 3000 meter body of water, rowing requires 2000 meters. Lacrosse has to use the soccer field? No not really, you have the Track field, and the practice field that can be converted, and not to mention Buchtel Field. Title IX only requires that for every scholarship offered a male an equal scholarship is offered to a female. Assuming the largest size team (Lacrosse, which is roughly 30) you could eat that up by adding women's Lacrosse or gymnastics and field hockey. Hockey is at max 18 scholarships. And nobody said let's add sports, I believe I prefaced the whole thing with "assuming we could eventually add sports".
  17. I was bored, and thought I would do a poll. It could help since the student body is constantly growing, to see what people would be interested in supporting. Title IX would require the addition of a minimum of 2 sports (men's and women's) I just threw out a list of both. Certain sports (hockey) would require expensive new facilties. But again, it's just all wishful day dreaming.
  18. Checked that earlier and according to the HDNet site Time Warner doesn't carry it for my area (44310 family & 44319 my house).
  19. Can Time Warner Cable carry HDNET?
  20. Yeah, but that deserved two really's when you think about it.
  21. I think you miss the point. The point isn't "we don't want that second chance" it's "we aren't afforded that second chance". We can play all the tough opponents we want, they stopped giving the MAC schools a second chance. You bring up 2008, look at 2007 and what happened. Everyone (experts included) figured Miami and Akron would be in the tournament. What happened?
  22. If we land even one of those 4 star guys I'd say Ianello really is a top recruiter.
  23. So he's now in charge of pretty much everything people complain about when it comes to being a Zips fan.Ladies and gentlemen, meet the next University of Akron AD. No we don't promote from within, just ask Hunter.
  24. Wasn't talking about last year. No need to be an idiot. There certainly isn't.C. McKnight had very limited minutes because of foul trouble, and fouled out 5 minutes before the end of regulation.Cvetinovic same deal.B. McKnight also saw some foul trouble limiting his playing time in regulationThat's three main players that are more rested then the main players of WMU. Not only that, but the Broncos are also coming off an emotional come from behind win. Fatigue factor is going to be more even then you would think.
