New Parking Garage on Exchange
g-mann17 replied to scottditzen's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Much of the street can be closed off without blocking access to the deck. Love to see how that would work -
There are several University programs in Polsky, not just Summit College (this includes CBA programs). University Park (which encompasses the campus) is a downtown neighborhood. Downtown isn't a "short walk" because the campus is already downtown. Campus spreads from Rt. 8 (not downtown) to Broadway & Wolf Ledges (downtown). Downtown is everything between Wolf Ledges and 59 and from North St. to the Bridgestone Technical Center (the old one not the new one). The proximity with downtown is the beauty of Akron's campus. You can feel like you are in the middle of park and a 5 minute walk later you're in a nice city setting with cultural and food options. The downtown/Broadway corridor is a good relationship builder for the university and the city. There are just some people who still hold on to the old 30's program of moving the campus to Good Park. And making it some detached entity of its own.

Auto bids will remain the same. One per conference given to the winner of the conference tourney. The regular season champion still gets nothing, but has a chance for an at-large. Well first nothing is set in stone, second most of the coaches (including Coach K) supports the idea as stated.

Coming from a person who opens with insults in every rebuttal.

I suspect that not much does. Maybe get your wife to explain it all to you.

The article in the Beacon today states that the proposal the NCAA is sending to the board is a 96 team tournament. The top 32 teams will receive byes and the other 64 will play. The tournament will take the same length of time as the current one. It is likely the additionaly 32 teams would be teams that would have landed in the NIT. That means the future for MAC post season play will likely fall as auto bids for Tournament Winner and Regular season champion. In the case of the regular season champion winning the tournament then it would likely be the second best record in the conference as the championship loser may not be #2 seed from the tournament. So, now, the regular season matters. (if this passes and it probably will)

Impact of UA Sports and Infocision on the City
g-mann17 replied to MDZip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
How did we go from having Monsters of Rock festival to wishing for Jay-Z or Dave Mathews!?!? I've seen Nirvana at the JAR, Tool at the Daily Double. What happen to the Akron music scene??? LOL LA GEAR...stupid 80's -
Yes lies and unsubstantiated rumors are often left out of news stories.

Announcement of the "Big Changes"
g-mann17 replied to tpsjugglerdude's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
See I had read that he had chose Sienna, and KD was quoted as saying "I don't Sienna reason to stick around when the Zips fans act like they don't Sienna improvement and they barely come out to Sienna games." -
Jason Taylor?

First, Torrence did play last year and ended up with the flu and then injured. His other behavior? What being accused of something he didn't do? I love people that take the facts, throw them out the door, and make their own reality. Ridiculous, you didn't have anything to say about him until he left.

From what I have heard from an inside source, interesting is an understatement... Care to elaborate? They told me to keep it private...someone heard from the inside and told me to keep it quiet. There are 3 players that confirmed last tuesday to Dambrot that they are transferring. There is also one player who is debating to stay on the team or to transfer. I'll let you guys guess who since I don't want to be the spoiler We don't take too kindly to your type round here.

From what I have heard from an inside source, interesting is an understatement... Care to tell us if this is a good thing? Alright, I will tell everyone. Lebron is not going to be signing with the Cavs, Knicks or Nets this summer. He is coming to Akron to get his business degree for managing his money after basketball and "walking on" the basketball team. The good thing is, we don't need to use a scholarship on him since he has the money to pay for school.
-
I have a feeling that Torrence leaving had more to do with the coaching staff asking him to play where he didn't want to play (LB) then it did with "hard feelings" or "bad treatment" with the coaching staff. We are inundated with running backs. Allen, Alexander and Martin are likely to get the most carries. They probably were honest with Torrence and said "we could use your body on defense, or if you can put on weight and move to fullback that would help the team a lot" and having the same attitude as he did with JD he said "I'm a running back, if I don't carry here then I am going some place else"

Of course it did last Fall. It must have. Don't you remember several people on this thread claiming the stadium would be 100% ready for the opening game last year? Was the stadium not 100% ready for the opening game? I didn't see any missing seat sections. If you chose not to notice the unfinished parts of the stadium last Fall there is probably nothing I can do to convince you. That is why I agreed in my last post that the shop was done last Fall. I didn't notice anything that wasn't finished? I have already conceded that your lack of observatory skills makes you right. I'm just happy nobody appears to have been harmed while in the "fully complete" facility. I think it's your definition of stadium. That would be seating area, restrooms, concessions and playing surface. All of that was complete. The buildings attached to stadium, not so much, the landscaping, not so much.

Swiech is so nice it had to be posted thrice?

I agree Jake, until they move the Polsky building and Quaker Inn conspicuously into the center of campus, they will not truly be a part of campus.

Larry Dawson doesn't need the athletic scholarship. He is part of some deal through a local attorney that awards a number of scholarships to inner city kids. He goes to school for free as long as he maintains a 3.0 or better.

I fixed the original, I can't do anything about being busted. The mistake lives on forever....

I expect the "Meister" to render an opinion at any second. Fixed it, man I looked like a real K-E-N-T grad on that one.

They are our rival, so we get to have an opinion. We hire a Big 10 guy, they hire a Great West guy. He successfully prepared USD to move to FCS, will he do the same at Can't?

Quick, somebody get Michigan on the schedule.
g-mann17 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
"Alleluia" Tressel-ball will rule against Michigan D. Not that it hasn't before. First you might want to post that on an OSU board not a Zips board And Michigan is about a year away from taking over the rivalry because Tressel can't deal with a real spread offense. -
Been looking for some pictures for the Bridge Design competition (the Quaker Inn Bridge over the tracks) and this all I can find. MU Junior (and finalist) submitted this concept... Also interesting to point out that Forbes magazine has listed the Quaker Inn as one the country's most unique hotels. UA Article

Yep, but looking at the roster he's 6'1 285, and with his foot speed that makes for a pretty quality DT. You have to remember we ran 3-3-5 so at least one of the the DE's in that has to be a bit meatier.
