  1. Not only that but both are "spring" sports and wouldn't necessarily compete for space during the actual season. Plus both are slowly growing in popularity in NEO.
  2. Lacrosse and Gymnastics are cheap and easy adds and we have enough from a facility stand point to host both.
  3. Success in Non-Revenue/olympic sports (i.e. Soccer, Track & Field). They are small potatoes to you oh Great GP1, but they bring notoriety to a school and its affiliated conference. It is part of the reason the Big East & ACC love Lacrosse so much. Additionally the research levels at the University of Akron continue to sky rocket.
  4. I thought you quit on the Zips? What possible interest do you have in what UA's conference affiliation is now or in the future?Go Zips!A valid point.
  5. Notre Dame affiliation....checkArizona affiliation....checkSo we need what, Wisconsin and Alabama representatives now right?(actually I'm not sure what capacity Camp will have yet, DC or just a defensive position coach, but I like the hire)
  6. If the BE would never take Temple back (never say never), wouldn't it make sense for the ACC to go after Temple? They already stretch as far as Boston and Maryland is not far away. Temple is a basketball school first, but it also plays in an NFL stadium. In addition, Temple is in an extremely large media market stretching from C. PA through NJ.Temple didn't leave the Big East. They got kicked out. Temple will not be back in the Big East, in the next 15 years.Never say never. If they were desperate enough they would. Self preservation makes people do things they might not normally do.true. Say you're the Big East, do you take Temple, or Akron? I would say Temple under normal circumstances, but there could be pressure to stand by their initial decision of kicking them out and look elsewhere for expansion...The Big East removed Temple because it didn't really fit the conference's Profile, not because of poor performance (Temple was a part-time member anyway).

PA through NJ.You know, I don't see why not, ACC doesn't really have a historic "pattern" for their affiliates. You have everything from Wake Forest (private low enrollment school) to Florida State (Public Large University)Another option for the whole thing is that the Big 10 could be smart and recognize it needs to go after the "power conferences" and find a financially beneficial way to lure a SEC or Big 12 school (Say Missouri or Kentucky). Which quickly opens the door for TCU in both of those conferences.
  8. OH NO!!!!Adults using adult language.
  9. Do they have penalty kicks in the pros? If so, he better hire someone to teach that aspect of the game. Nothing seems more important.PKs are only used in the MLS during the playoffs. Regular season ties count as one point in the standings (3 points for a win). This is typical world-wide for "group" play. If an MLS playoff series (one home, one away, the winner with the higher aggregate score) ends in a tie after the overtime period, then PKs decide the outcome. In general, whenever there is a single elimination tournament (the so-called "knock out stage" in the World Cup, Champions League etc), the specter of PKs deciding the champion lingers. As far as Caleb hiring someone for PKs, it should be noted that the Zips under his watch have been VERY successful (Bush etc.). And they just went 5 for 5 against UNC on Friday. Sure the 2 of 5 showing yesterday was well below acceptable, but don't forget UVa's staff had the advantage of watching and evaluating the Zips in this regard against UNC. It sucks that it happened at the most critical time, but these things happen in soccer. This was my first thought as well. But when two of the shots are not even on goal, it's hard to blame the failure on UVA possibly knowing our tendencies from Friday night. Holding them to 3of5 should have easily given us the win. Was it nerves? pressure? fatigue? We'll never know.Weather Conditions?Look, don't sit there and be a tool and blame these kids or Caleb for playing their asses off and then missing a goal by an inch (Sarkodie) or over thinking the shot (Gavin) it happens; it sucks. I would wager to guess that we will be the favorites to be there again next year and Caleb seems to me to be the type of person who doesn't let things slide. I mean I'm sure since he had that taste in his mouth and knew it was there he is going to want to finish what he started, the beauty is he is 34 with a long life and career ahead of him and even if he is out for the money, a couple National Titles will get him a better gig then that crappy DC United one.
  10. No he doesn't.You play one, 1-AA school per season. That's it.If TW schedules two 1-AA schools he can have my season tickets. If I want to watch multiple 1-AA games, I'll go to a 1-AA stadium like Youngstown.Beyond that, only one 1-AA win counts towards bowl eligibility.Next season we play BCS Syracuse, Indiana and Cincinnati(?).So we should back out of our contracted game with Indiana? A bottom-rung Big 10 team? No way.Back out of our home game with Syracuse? Great idea....Stiff Cincinnati after they honored their game in Akron? That would be a classy move..."You want it to be one way....but it's the other."Enjoy the losing. Take a recliner to the game, there will be plenty of room. This team needs to get some wins under its belt and then we can beef up the schedule. One 1-AA game + a MAC East schedule is soft enough. Any softer and we should drop to 1-AA. If we do that, then your plan makes sense.I dont even like the 1 game against a 1-AA. I have a hard enough time getting people to go to the MAC games with me, let alone those games. If we can't compete in our conference and be willing to at least play some decent non conference teams, then we should drop down. You dont get recruits to come here by playing and beating a bunch on 1-AA teams.Florida and USF would disagree (sorry not on you, just a good chance to take a pot shot at the week scheduling Florida universities do)Seriously though, the schedule should be geared toward building confidence (winning) and that means having a 1-AA school early on. Getting that first win early helps the team. But on that note, scheduling more than 1 FCS school is stupid because you throw a game away. The bottom line is winning, competing in (and winning) the MAC and making Bowl games to earn cash. Doing anything GP1 says is great for YSU but stupid for the University.
  11. Well there's your transfer bait.Kelly runs a spread so you know ND doesn't need any fullbacks. Yes that means waiting a year, but they also had several seniors so they were probably recruiting fullbacks (a rarity in college football now) so that is two "ins" right off the bat.
  12. Yes, and I would think "similar offense to Notre Dame" would be enough to keep him considering Clausen's stats...Jimmy Clausen Notre Dame attempts: 425 completeions: 289 yards: 3722 yards/attempt: 8.8 yds/game: 310.2 TD: 28 We still need backs ups, we only Rodgers and Wackerly and Potts if he keeps his verbal
  13. New York TimesIt's about Kelly, but they only talk to Ianello.
  14. When Ianello was given responsibility for football operations at Notre Dame after Weis was fired, he said the following:He stressed that Notre Dame is “about all the right things in college athletics, and that is why you should come to school here.”He talked about Weis meeting with two recruits after the home loss to UConn and how Weis stressed the same message to those recruits – that Notre Dame is a place you go to because of the school and what it stands for, not just the coaching staff. In talking about why recruits choose Notre Dame, Ianello said that recruits come to Notre Dame because: “You come to school here because everybody that comes here is going to get a degree. We graduate everyone that stays here."uhnd.com linkI like that.
  15. Unless the waitress spills a beer in your lap... No ill wishes though, let's all enjoy this game and I hope to be watching the Zips on Sunday.
  16. Of course he did. More "feel good" stories about the little engine that almost could.
  17. Read some other threads. They are starting on replacing the pitch and lighting and some of the embankments this year. After next season they will do the grandstands. So they are helping soccer. And if you paid attention you would know that the soccer facilities have been renovated several times since the 80's. Is it what they deserve? No, but they have been pumping money into that pitch.
  18. What has he done to earn your trust? What has he done to lose your's?lolI'm gonna stick up for GP1 here (I can't believe it).I don't think trust can be lost if it was never had.Don't confuse trust with respect. I think the AP automatically deserves respect, unless he does something to lose it.I also think that I would like to have faith that he knows what he is doing. But trust? That's a rough one.I tend to be an optimist. And like I said when the Ianello rumor thread started, IF (and I don't know that it is true, whatsoever) our new HC is brought in for his recruiting prowess and leadership vision, and may lack the X's & O's, then all the AD has to do is complete the organizational package around him to (look out for it) "build the program" and fill in those gaps.[edit-add]BTW, GP1, I'm sure you don't see it this way, but I think that the sign is a tribute to you.Don't focus on it's negative aspect. I understand why it was made. Frankly, your style hasn't always been my favorite either. But I am jealous that got a sign made to you. I got no sign, and if smart guy makes me one, it certainly wont get used often. First, trust is given and lost, because trust is a form of faith. A belief that a person will come through. You don't earn it.Second, GP1 is a big boy and knows when people mess with him, or just flat out think he's talking out his @$$. And likely doesn't care either way. I've agreed with him before, and I'm just having fun with my sign.
  19. What has he done to earn your trust? What has he done to lose your's?
  20. No, no. I'm pretty sure it's baked into the bread we eat
  21. I had not heard of Ianello until about 2:30 or so yesterday. I read up on him as much as I could. What I can come up with is this...He can recruitHe can developHe can bring players upHe has worked for a National Champion (no, not the coveted D-II national champion some of you all want, but some team from Alabama, I think they are the Crimson something another)I know that ND and the ND fans thought enough of him to make him the interim coachHe was thought of highly enough by Weiss to be made Asst. Head Coach Offense (the Walt Harris position)He has great contacts in the NFL world (big deal to recruits)He has ties to the SEC, Pac-10, and Big 10 (meaning he can recruit nationally, and did for ND, but I think theKid is the one that said "You better be able to recruit for ND they have MILLIONS of dollars" yes and the toughest entry requirements of any D-1 school in the country outside of the Academies)Bottom line we wantedHistory of winning....checkExperience as a head coach....noneStrong recruiter....checkPassionate....TBDI think he fits 75% of what we want, I really didn't know what to expect, I knew my top candidates wouldn't be available to us (London and Strong) but I also didn't want an area guy. Why? Because 90% of the time that "We can't succeed, we are Akron" is so bread into people that it is self defeating.I am fine with this hire. If we are at least 5-3 in the MAC next year I like the hire.
  22. Trust me, I do not come here to tick you guys off, I can't help it I had to come on here and defend my Guins! Can anyone tell me what "Stoops" rhymes with?Hint -Um...Whoops Fruit LoopsPoopsHoopsAs in...After jumping through all those hoops these YSU fruit loops are saying "Whoops! Stoops might not even give two poops about this job!"
  23. Awesome, thanks!
  24. Trust me, I do not come here to tick you guys off, I can't help it I had to come on here and defend my Guins! What's a Guin?
  25. An offense has to be able to game plan for a variety of defenses as well.Asking a defensive coach for advise is like asking an Amish man for advice on how to build a nuclear powerplant. They are nice people and all, just not very sharp.......and lacking in the looks department........and tend to live with their mothers too long......and generally unclean. And I've lost my mind?
