  1. Internet news article microcosms what is wrong with the news print industry.Declining sales brought on by terrible reactions to changes in the industry. Instead of raising the newstand price; lower it. Lower the cost of advertising. Use more color if possible. Most importantly; clean up the editorializing in the news stories and get back to a neutral stance on politics. Newsprint is so biased toward the left that they have by their own hand removed half their readership. The editorial page(s) needs to offer both sides not just their rampant flaming liberal opinions. Is anything worth while about business taught in the universities today? One last thing. For most of my life the ABJ was an afternoon paper. Perhaps they should return to that time slot and market suburban Cleveland as well.
My feelings exactly Go Zips. No more politicising of the news, either towards the right or left. Don't worry though, they are "Ohio's Newspaper" after all. I'm sure all their subscribers in Columbus will carry them through this rough time. ;)
  2. After reading this, UA coach sees little to cheer, Brookhart unimpressed after closed scrimmage http://www.ohio.com/news/top_stories/27214514.html I'm really starting to question whether JD will survive this season. If you watch the videos posted by Rasor, one might get the impression that JD is seeing the handwriting on the wall concerning his future as HC of the Zips. Lots of negative vibes in those videos and the newspaper stories. :(

  3. Good luck to Ray and his family on their recent move to Wisconsin. Ray has accepted a similar position with the Badgers BB team. I had the pleasure of coaching Rays son Tyree in the last few years and you couldn't meet a nicer family. The Zips will have to look hard to find a replacement to match up to Rays expertise.

  4. My source tells me that the depth chart looks like this;#1 Chris Jacquemain#2 Matt Rodgers#3 Kade Wagner#4 KC Patterson#5 Jordan MillerI don't care who, but one of these guys needs to step up in the next week and take command of the position. Another year of poor quarterbacking and JD will be packing his bags.

  5. Nice write-up in todays Canton Repository.http://cantonrep.com/index.php?ID=424080&a...ubCategoryID=26

Q: What type of impact did Coach Faust make on you? A: "Coach Faust had a very large impact on me personally and on my career. He taught me a lot. Coming from Pittsburgh at 17 years old, he teaches you how to be a man, how to be responsible, and discipline. He is the one who really gave me my first shot at playing football in college. He recruited me to a Division I school. It wasn't the biggest football program in the world, but it was still a Division I program. It was a blessing to get on a stage big enough to show that I had some talent."
  6. Assuming he's talking about the signs that have been up there since the signage was refreshed 2 seasons ago, those signs in the JAR say MAC / East on them .. they don't say MAC by itself. MAC is at the top, but with 1998 and 2006 is clearly indicated the word "East."Take a closer look the next time, Ellen.
At least his employer has directed him to write SOMETHING about this event. The ABJ could have a writer cover this but it doesn't fit their agenda of hate.
  7. Well, I have put it off long enough, its time to renew my football tickets. For this year its pretty staight forward($75X5tix=$375+$100donationZAC) $475 for my 5 seats. Where it gets interesting is trying to figure out what it will cost me to keep the same seats at the new stadium. :D They want me to buy both seasons now and only pay 40% upfront with the balance due next June. They say I will save $65 by agreeing. They sent a seating chart and section I am eligable for is pretty small(priotity reserved) but carrys a huge price premium. I have been spoiled by 39 years of 50 yard line seats and would like to be able to keep them, but not at any cost. They want $320 per ticket. By my math that works to $225 per ticket for the 2009 season at Infocision. Thats a 300% price increase. What to do? :(

  8. There's an article in the Sept 2006 edition of Akron Life & Leisure about the Rubber Bowl and it says that capacity was reduced from 35,482 to 31,000 when turf and expanded all-purpose track were installed.
Capacity was dropped when they discovered that the enclosed end of the Rubber Bowl was slowly collapsing. At first they tried pumping thousands of yards of concrete under the stands to stabilize the hillside, but it was not succesful. That is why the blue tarp was installed to cover those seats.
  9. This is a load of crap... she keeps dismissing everyone for violating team rules and she doesn't want to comment on their opinions. Sounds to me like someone is confused and doesn't have a good argument. Being a student athlete is one of the best things that can happen to a person and an great experience. Coach Kest is turning the great experience of her student athletes into a living nightmare. She is not only ruinning a struggling program but also the lives of those young ladies. In the future, any HS girl being recruited by Akron will probably be very hesitant, not only does this team not win but also you can't even enjoy your experience: things happening behind doors and insecurity etc...Five players and McCoy makes six in a single year. When we recruit them, they are the best thing since sliced bread but then a year or two later, we kick them out and say that they are garbage.I don't think that's a program moving in the right direction. I am not sure what does it take to finally start pointing the finger in the right direction.
They are getting a free six figure education. I agree with coach K's letting them go if they cant follow the rules. As for her not commenting on the departing players statements, she is handling that correctly also. Do you really think it would be good for the program for her to spill any dirty laundry on what really happened to the media? Let them say their piece and move on. :(
Hilltopper, with all due respect, this "following the rules" thing is a big joke that people in charge can use according to their needs. One person cannot make the rules and judge who is following them and who is not. At least not in this country, maybe in China or Sudan but not here.I would love to see the the athletic department forming a hearing committee to listen to what those girls have to say. Or maybe the university making a judicial board to hear both sides of the stoy.
Try that theory out with your boss. I am sure that all UA athletes sign a code of conduct that clearly outlines their responsibilities to remain in the program. This is not a criminal case in the judicial system. ;)

  11. There are other coaches available also that the Leaking Urnal did not mention, Ben Braun got canned atUC Berklley, he might be in the running. With ball ammunition lock and load and of course :screwks:
Cal still owes him $1mil for next year. I doubt he would take a lesser paying job and give up the $$$.
  12. Man. Reading some of those comments makes me wish UA could just pick up its beautiful campus and all the benefits that it gives toe city and leave for somewhere where the people actually appreciate what we bring to the table. They don't want a football stadium downtown because it has no competitive advantage over other open air arenas like Blossom? They don't want us to tear down the blighted cancer of slums that chokes off the heart of downtown? We are a commuter school and should know our place? "Akron University" does nothing but buy up properties downtown to grow itself without giving anything back to the community? These people are afraid of what their city, the city of Akron as it is in their own twosted minds, will become. They have memories of Akron before the rubber companies left, of the Zip Strip before it was a hangout for drug addicts and homeless people, of once thriving neighborhoods that have since fallen into the darkest of decays. They think it is still like it used to be, and that we will ruin it out of UA's own greed, not giving anything back in return. They can't accept that the city has changed since then, for the worse, or if they have accept it, they refuse to believe that more change is needed to make the city better. It's sad. You didn't hear protests when the Mayor approved for the city to go into deep debt to rebuild every public school in Akron, and or situation with the Rubber Bowl is similar: the old buildings are on the verge of crumbling and need replaced. It might be that some of them are OSU drones that can't stand for any other university in the state to have nice things, lest we actually strive to compete with that school in Colombus.Who knows. All I know is that I can't wait for the stadium to be built, because when it does, the campus will finally be complete.
They all have what I call 'Chrissy Hynde" disease. You know, My City Is Gone, Disease. Nothing can change, it must always be as it was in my blissfull youth.
  13. Hilltopper, thanks for the support. But a small correction. The intention of this site is NOT to be a mouthpiece for UA Athletics with no objectivity. It is simply to be a home for Zips fans on the web. You credit me too much .. you recall the meeting @ Porky's several (6?) years ago that started this site up. We aim to provide a gathering place free from spam, personal attacks and advertising, right? Hopefully we're doing that?Again, I haven't seen the deleted posts .. so I can't speak to specifics on them. I have confidence in the Moderators. I can tell you that we have a VERY slow trigger finger around here on these things. Congratulations for being the first in several months to make it itch.
ZW, I think you are being too modest. You have accomplished exactly what we talked about on that day in front of Porkys. This site is a wonderful example of free speech, without all the name calling and acrimony I see on other sites. Keep up the good work! ;)
  14. well let me make it clear that i never stated that Keith Dambrot was a bad recruiter or that he was bad for this program. However, he is a horrible game coach, he doesn't seem to understand game situations in college basketball or even how to utilize his roster. He seems lost at times. I have been following Zips basketball for my entire life, and have been going to games since i was 1, I have a very good understanding of how bad some coaches have been and i assure you I am not on any sort of Hipsher band wagon.
This is my 35th year of attending Zips BB as a season ticket holder. Dambrot is not a "horrible game coach". Unless you have some inside info as to what the status of each player is reguarding injuries, weaknesses and such, anything you have to say about coaching decisions is pure conjecture. After watching Hipsher ruin the confidence level of every player he recruited and watching Crawfords total lack of recruiting ability destroy what little winning tradition we established in the Huggins era, KD has been a breath of fresh air. I suspect that there are hundreds of other programs that would love to have KD making those same "horrible decisions" for their program. Bottom line; the players play the game, the coach can only try to put them in a position to win. Yesterday we were in a position to win, the players didn't make the plays. This was a great season, we were only picked for 4th in the east and we overacheived. I cant wait till next year. :D
  15. maybe you're a Can't fan in disguise or maybe cause you're being stupid and no one wants to have a thread like that up.
or maybe someone who runs the site has a problem with opinions which are against what they believe....kinda goes against the whole point of a "open forum"
Your mistaken if you think this is an "Open Forum" and you can say whatever you want. The reality is that ZW graceousley provides us Zips fans with a place to share our common passion. The fact is that Zips Nation is private property and the owners can do as they please. There no such thing as right to "Free Speech" on a web forum. If you don't like it, you can always start your own site where you can say what ever you want. KD is the best thing that has happened to Zips basketball since Huggins left 20 years ago.
  16. It seems you've stirred up a hornets nest over at the UMass boards. http://umasshoops.com/board/index.htm

akron message board. looks like their most common poster is a mouthbreathing UCon grad. could be fun.
Rocks22 wrote: ktabz16 wrote: www.zipsnation.org akron message board. looks like their most common poster is a mouthbreathing UCon grad. could be fun. Yeah, interesting revisionist history he subscribes to:
Quote: ZWCamby & Calipari were yellow. They wouldn't dare play UConn when we had Marshall, Marshall, Allen & company .. they ran and hid until a few years later when the Huskies then handed them their asses.
ConU fans never cease to amaze... Apparently this meathead didn't see the puke-on-Memphis game where mumbles admitted he was the reason they "didn't play" (ducked) UMass during the Calipari era. He also must have missed the last time the two teams played.
