Answer: Says we should be willing to try anything at this point. If we put our best defensive team out there we can't score and just the oppisite for our best offensive combination.Coach Dambrot:- With the depth problems while you wait for Ronnie to get back, it appears the usual strategy of 3 guards / going small is off the table. Is there any thought to going BIG against conference teams, and using Nate, Brett or Jimmy as the 2 guard and posting up smaller guards to get some looks inside that way? Seems like Nate & Jimmy can probably guard most SG's in the conference. Thanks, I'll hang up and listen to your answer.Go Zips!B)

Answer: Says the team still isn't mentally tough enough to withstand much adversity. Says we are a defensive minded team without an identity on offense. Hopes it comes with experience. Some of the younger guys have kinda hit the wall(Humpty).Coach Dambrot: You've talked about your team lacking what you call "mental toughness". What are you and your coaching staff doing to instill it in your players?Coach Kest: The last few years, it seems like your team has had more players leave or transfer after each season than those who stick around. Is some type of "addition by subtraction" happening, and will losing so many players affect the program's Academic Progress rating? -
Answer: Basically no comment. appreciates what fans we have. Still working towards a bigger goal long range(New Arena)etc...How about : "How disappointed are you in the lack of support from the community for this exciting program?" -
Answer: Nick had a nice run of games earlier in the season . We had to sit him down for a while because he was letting his emotions get the better of him. We have been working on that with him. He's got alot of passion.Coach Dambrot with our offensive struggles in the paint will Nikola Cvetinovic's playing time increase as the season progresses? For the love of gawd, he speaks five languages! Make sure you mention the five languages.Did somebody from the Stern Show interview Nik? What a great job of answering the interviewer. I'm a big fan of Nik. -
Answer: I can't worry about next year or guys we don't have. We are trying to get things going on offense right now. Here is one for coach Dambrot:Considering the anticipated addition of Zeke Marshall next year, and seeing how you have 2 centers already, how are you going to distribute the minutes between 3 centers in the next 2 years?Coach Kest:How did the dissmissal of the best players (basketball speaking) over the last 2 years affect the team chemistry? How do the fans know that is not going to keep happening every year.No softballs here captain -
Answer: We thought Ronnie had a medical setback. We took him to the doctor and everything is progressing OK, but he is not ready to return.Coach Dambrot:Any update on Ronnie Steward's status would be great! Thank you! -
Answer: Steve is a nice kid. The coach has to play his best players and Steve is not one of them.Coach Dambrot:Why hasn't Steven Swiech gotten more playing time? What does he need to work on to see the floor? Has his attitude remained mostly positive even though he's not getting a lot of PT? -
Answer: We have contacted CSU and they are not intrested. This one's for Coach Dambrot.Have there been any efforts on the part of UA to institute an alternating home and home series with Cleveland State?Go Zips! -
He said that Steve is a nice kid , but the coach needs to play his best players and Steve isn't one of them. I felt he was pretty blunt about it. So based on who has played when the games count, he is behind a couple of walk ons.

I'm one of the unfortunate souls unable to tune in tonight. Can you say more specifically what was said about Steve Sweich?
They asked KD every question. He answered them all. Things don't look good for Sweich.
-

I keep telling you guys I have my sources!
where did you find this? all the ones on gozips are tiny (totally weak on their part). But yeah, that pic shows whats going on there. They cant put up the bleachers over that part of the stands until they've built the remaining buildings for concessions, bathrooms, etc.Another view. This came from the same person who told me the tailgate area would be Buchtel Field.

Barack Obama has publicly stated his support of legislation to outlaw the BCS and install a true D-1 playoff. I'm liking the guy more each day!
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/01/09/pol...ball/index.htmlObama raps Bowl Championship Series: 'We need a playoff'
"We need a playoff," Obama told reporters after being asked about Florida's 24-14 victory over Oklahoma in Thursday night's BCS championship game. "If I'm Utah, or if I'm USC or if I'm Texas, I might still have some quibbles.""It would add three extra weeks to the season," Obama said in a "60 Minutes" interview just after his election. "You could trim back on the regular season. I don't know any serious fan of college football who has disagreed with me on this. So, I'm going to throw my weight around a little bit. I think it's the right thing to do."On Thursday, Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, reintroduced the College Football Playoff Act of 2008. The bill, originally introduced December 10, would "prohibit, as an unfair and deceptive act or practice, the promotion, marketing, and advertising of any post-season NCAA Division I football game as a national championship game unless such game is the culmination of a fair and equitable playoff system."If passed, this bill would apply to any game that occurs after January 31, 2011. It would be enforceable by the Federal Trade Commission.
This is change I can believe in!For the 2006-07 postseason, an average of $25.5 million in revenue was awarded per large conference, while the small conferences averaged $5 million each.As the argument goes, the larger postseason earnings provide an advantage -- in athletic recruiting, as well as for each university as a whole -- to the "power" conferences. -
Wyatt Webb was the coach when I first started attending Zips BB. Len paul was a senior. Harvey Glover and Nate Barnett. Later on the the Bates brothers. It was a different era. At Memorial Hall you could smell the chlorine sometimes from the pool below the main floor. Talk about a band box arena.Hi Hilltopper.Wow...you probably went to games at Memorial Hall, which I never got to do. That even precedes my time here. Nice to see some old timers like myself getting active on this board. Just giving my thoughts about how I feel about our chances this year. Not only as a fan, but from the perspective of a player and coach...and someone who was born into a basketball family. Of course I will enjoy the season. Zips Basketball is such a big part of my life every winter that I drive my wife crazy. Lets hope for the best. -
Went to a sports bar in Lexington KY called Varsity Blue. At the bottom of each urinal they had affixed a picture of Rick Pitino's face.

Skip, Ihave been a BB season ticket holder for over 35 years now. I know you want whats best for the team, but us old guys have to remember that we are dealing with a bunch of kids. These guys are just barely past teenagers. Life is too short to get all worked up. Take things one game at a time and you might have more fun.Hilltopper....nice response. I was looking for something to laugh about today. It's hard to be happy when you haven't been to the NCAA Tournament in 23 years. Believe me, it's a great experience for a student. I was fortunate enough to still be a student when it happened. But heck...the year 1986 probably even precedes the birth date of many posters on here. Honestly though, these are a few of the things that have me thinking negatively right now about our chances to compete this year. But, I'm also not ready to start looking towards next year anytime soon. Dave...perfectly said. Plus, it's just a lot more fun to root for a team if they are playing better than you expected. -
Thats what you need to work on Skip. Don't worry, be happy! But, my negative thoughts deal mostly with what we have failed to get done over the course of our non-conference schedule to show that we're prepared to compete in our division. -
The problem ZW, is that you never know which GP1 is posting. The thoughtful Zips fan or the forum troll.
Glad to hear I'm not alone.Happy New Year Everyone!Go Zips!
Sure, the only thing I've taken issue with is GP1's dismissal of the progress that Dambrot has made here. Can't we agree that ALL 3 are good coaches? -
I got news for you, those guys came to Akron to play for KD, not Hipsher.I'll add this much.....and don't get me wrong....I love KD. KD has done a nice job, but also inherited the Wood/Travis/Joyce/Dials nucleus that we all knew was going to win a lot of games over the next few years. All DH would have done was destroy them by the time they were seniors.
