  1. 5) He still lives in the area, and coached his grandson's pee wee football team. Can you imagine that?????? "Hey kids...our coach this year is an ex Notre Dame football coach". Well, maybe the kids wouldn't think much of it...but their parents certainly would.
Coach Faust is a great guy. I almost feel bad typing this. When I read this, I could hear the motivational talk..... "We beat the Swenson's Lions....and the Swenson's Lions beat the Strickland's Giants.....and the Strickland's Giants beat the JCC Seahawks......and the JCC Seahawks beat the Downtown YMCA Eagles....and the Downtown YMCA Eagles beat the Ido Cafe Chargers....and the Ido Cafe Chargers beat the West Point Market Packers.....That means we can beat the West Point Market Packers."
Holy cow! I didn't know Ido Cafe was that good! Must be all those 80-something Firestone retirees who are so super tough. Tip o' the cap to my Dad for buying me my first Rolling Rock there. ;)
ZIP, Yes the Ido still rocks! My wife and I just had dinner there last week. I grew up one street south of Ido Ave(Brookside) and have many fond memorys of the place. If your ever in Akron let me know and I'll buy you another Rolling Rock. :D:lol:http://www.idobar.com/index.shtml
  2. I thought the big fella looked pretty good out there. Just think Rob Preston every time you see Sweich on the floor. Preston was a total bust untill KD took over and coached him up a little. By the time he was senior, he was a contributor. Give Steve some time. ;)

  3. Unless I missed something, there is no postgame thread to be found.First for the bad:Most of us probably don't feel that great this morning. And understandably so. In my opinion, we only won that game in the end simply because we had a little more talent than they have. But, that won't be the case when we eventually get into the meat of our MAC schedule. I wouldn't criticize anyone right now who sees this team as a 10-15 win team, in the best case scenario, at this point. I have to admit, with all of the time I have spent in my lifetime around both high school and college basketball teams, that's honestly where I saw this heading even before we stepped on the court this year. KD might have said it best in his post game interview. He said something to the effect of...the guys who can rebound and play defense cannot score...and the guys who can score can't rebound and play defense. That fact is not likely to change overnight. As much as we all wanted to hope that freshmen could fill the huge voids we've had to fill over the last couple of years, and effects are showing. The loss of Dru and Romeo even seems at this point to have been dramatically less of an effect on this team than the loss of the 3 other key pieces of the puzzle after last season. And after the exhibition against Walsh, I saw something very telling in the numbers....the rebounding problem. And it reared its ugly head again. Canisius DOUBLED our rebounding total. Now on a more positive note:I want to try to accept the fact that this team is truly a work in progress. There is great promise, but it's not likely to develop into many wins this year. But we all know that our future still looks bright at this point. We had hoped that this would be a decent year, and we wouldn't have to go through a rebuilding process....but it is what it is. But, I urge everyone to not lose your enthusiasm, keep posting and showing your interest as if we were a potential 25 win team, keep supporting the players and our coaching staff, and wait for better things to happen over the next couple of years. This season very likely will be a struggle for us....but it changes nothing about the direction of Akron basketball. Good things are going to happen.....keep the faith.
Maybe if you posted this in the correct forum, you might get better results. Now onto you "Expert" diagnosis of the team. They are young, they will get better as the season progresses. Take a chill pill already!
  4. Sorry to be such a downer on the tailgating info. All I can tell you is what I have been told by one who knows. The sattelite photo I posted is a little old now and there has been alot of new development in that area, so things might look a little different now. My understanding is that they are going to park cars on the field itself. I guess you will need a reserved space and some kind of fee will apply. Based on the parking situation, a reserved spot in the tailgate area might be some of the closest parking available. :)

  5. I have heard from a very good source at UA that the official Zips tailgate area will be at Buchtel Field. Anywhere else you might have a problem with an open container. I will try and confirm this, but that's what I have been told.
Only Buchtel Field? For a 30,000 seat stadium they'd limit tailgating to that small area? They couldn't POSSIBLY screw it up this bad. I hope you are misinformed.
I checked again this morning and it appears that Buchtel Field will be the Tailgate area. Anywhere else with an open container and you will risk a citation. http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=41....mp;t=h&z=17
  6. On a brighter note, where do posters think the prime tailgating areas will be next Fall?
Anywhere within a 50ft radius of my truck. :D I know the subject of tailgating is heating up on campus now that Opening Day is only 10 months away. From what I understand, the goal of those "sane" at the University is to have open tailgating in any University lot. This makes the most sense. Limiting tailgating ("tailgating" being defined as a place where you can cook food and have beer in a Solo cup without fear of being arrested) to a confined area(s) would be lame. The more people that want to come on campus and enjoy a Saturday, the better. Hassling them will be an irreversable buzzkill that will deter folks from returning after the stadium honeymoon is over.I've been to scores of college game days throughout the United States. The ONLY ones that have butchered tailgating are Youngstown State and K.e.n.t. YSU severely limited their "tailgate" (see definition above) lots, and charged an inflated price to utilize them. K.e.n.t. arrested their alumni for a couple years in their tailgate lots. I know of several K.e.n.t. fans that used to attend Can't State's homecoming religiously, and who since have sworn to never return to the campus. Having attended the UA/K.e.n.t. game last month, I can say even K.e.n.t.'s administration was smart enough to call off their tailgate Gestapo and let responsible people enjoy their game day. Good for them. YSU? Beats me. I haven't been to a game in about 6 years (went with my mom, who's a YSU alum).I'm sure there will be an elderly UA trustee or two that will fight having open containers on campus 6 days per year. Hopefully someone overrules such narrow-minded clowns. Pretty much every college in North America lets their fans tailgate. Zips fans can handle themselves just as well as tailgating fans from any other region of the United States. Probably better (if we beat Buffalo, I don't see any of us overturning cars on Exchange).
CK, I have heard from a very good source at UA that the official Zips tailgate area will be at Buchtel Field. Anywhere else you might have a problem with an open container. I will try and confirm this, but thats what I have been told.
  7. I saw alot of potential at the JAR Thursday, but its going to take a while to get all the pieces to fit together. I think that even though it didn't show against Walsh, Humpty is going to be a great player. He seems to just glide along the floor when pushing the ball up the court. We have three guys who can create their own shot off the dribble in Roberts, Steward and Hitchens. All three seem to be able to just stop and pop from anywhere from the three point line or in the paint. This will be a very different type of team than we've seen in the past few years. :)

  8. I would vote the Miami Redhawks.... because try as they might, they don't have 45% of the country rooting for them.
The last time the Dems controlled both houses of congress and the white house was under the Carter administration.
The Dems were in control of both the House and Senate from 92-94 onder Clinton. That ushered in the Republican victory in the mid terms.
  9. I've had the good fortune of calling Joe Dunn a friend for more than 20 years now. Joe is a Zips guy all the way. It wouldn't surprise me if Joe did take a swipe at someone he thought was showing disrespect for his Zips. The fact that our broadcast crew are homers is what should be expected, if they weren't I would be worried. :)

  10. If I was Charlie, I would pull a Rick Dockery and move to Europe and play professionally or maybe be a player/coach. Charlie needs to get away for a while. What the Browns did to him last year with the trade after the first game had to be crushing. He can always come back and coach or do whatever he wants to do
.GP, you really should watch the news every now and then. :wave:http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8...mp;confirm=true
The NFL has determined that it will switch the focus of its international business strategy to presenting the NFL to the widest possible global audience, including broader media visibility and the staging of international regular-season games, and will discontinue NFL Europa.
  11. ME? I went to Lee Jackson Field and watched a REAL coach in action! Froze my buns but it was a delight to watch a nationally ranked team with a GREAT coach, Made me wish we had a football coach to match the talent on the foiotball team, IMAGINE THAT!
What do soccer coaches do other than fill out the line up card. It's like being manager of an American League baseball team. ;)
There, GP1, I fixed your post for you. I'm sure you are just joking, right? Dissing the best sports program the Zips have is not what you intended, right? Right?
  12. I do care about the game. I love college football and as a writer covering the sport locally, I 'd like to see one or both of these struggling programs find a way to start playing competitive football week in and week out, fix their on and off-the-field issues and eventually represent the region for a Mid-American Conference championship.
Someone should tell this #@^%&$# that the Zips did win a MAC football championship in 2005.
  13. Bain is supposedly in some legal thing with the NCAA, but the only one whom I've heard that from is M.Rasor and his sources are mysterious at best on this.I hope he's wrong this time.
He's not. Move on. Questions about Bain in 2008 are as useful as one's regarding David Harvey.Barring a miracle, forget about Bain in 2008.
Yeah, fine Cap'n, but why? Why does it seem somehow verboten on the board for (1) all of us to ask about the mystery behind Bain's status, and (2) for those who represent themselves as bring "in the loop" to discuss what's going on with the kid. Until there is a sense that we have some clue as to what's going on with Bain, the questions will continue. SeeTeeZipper
Bain has a "Reactive Stress Fracture" and will likely not play this year. Thats the best I can give you, because thats all I know. Yes, I have a very good source for this info, but this injury is not a simple thing like a sprain or twisted knee.
  14. Just got back home from the game. All I can say is wow, what a disappointment. This game was winable, but questionable calls ruled the day. I'm not just talking about the refs either. What was JD thinking when he ordered a punt block attempt when we had them buried near the goal line? Set up for the return and you get the ball at the 50 at worst. Why do we try to throw a 30 yd pass on 3rd down when all we need is 1yd? The kicking game cost us the game. Igor was awful and Stec wasn't much better. Jones needs to make more fair catches instead of letting the ball bounce off the turf. if 5 plays go our whay, we win.
