I think the most important thing is to NOT have to play on Tuesday. To have that happen, we need Miami and Can't to lose tonight and Miami to lose on Sunday. Miami finishes with BG and Buffalo, a Can't loss tonight vs Buffalo eliminates them from contention even if they beat us Sunday. That way we don't need to worry about winning Sunday at Can't. That assumes that we win tonight against OU. Getting the #1 seed would be nice, but I think this is a more realistic goal.

I think there might have been too much pressure for Rybak at this level. I thought that he was going to throw up every time he went into the game. He always had a terrified look in his face whenever he played.

I would hope that Zeke can come in and compete at a higher level than Sweich. My guess is that Sweich's competetion was a bunch of rural programs. Sweich didn't play on a high level AAU team or the WPIAL. He didn't attend the King James Classic and compete against the other high ranked highschoolers. Will he average a double-double, no, but he should be able to see the floor.[i agree. I think we may be expecting a bit too much from a true-freshman Zeke. He'll be good, no doubt, but still developing. Which is completely natural; we have to be patient. He may not hit his stride right away. None-the-less I expect he'll fit right in and be a contributor next season (though, honestly, I had the same high expectations for Steven Sweich). -

Well I guess there are now 3002 season ticket holders. I just forked over $1175 for 5 seats. My biggest concern is not knowing where my seat location is right now. There is no such thing as a seating chart yet. I was told we will have a day sometime this spring/summer to choose our seat location. I went through this once before with the Browns. After they came back in the new stadium, we had to pay PSL's for seats without even knowing where they would be. After we got our seat location, they were much worse than our seats at the old Muni stadium. I hope this works better this time with UA.

Two words...Steve Sweich

I thought it was a classic example of C Coles in action. Try and keep the game close, then win the last 2 minutes for a victory. Humpty was outstanding tonite in the end game. He scored 7 points in the final minutes that effectively put the game out of reach for the Redhawks. C McKnight had a great second half with 16 points. At one point in the first half, we were 1 for 17 from the field. Of course Miami was only 2 for 17 and the score was 5-3. When Politz threw in that prayer(He Traveled) while rolling around on the floor, I had a few moments of worry. Chris and Humpty took over and the Zips pulled away. Big win!NOW THAT'S HOW YOU BEAT MIAMI.Boring first half but great second half, good to see the sweaters get put in their place. How about that seat of the pants shot though?WOW -

It looks like Dave knows good officiating when he sees it.http://www.mlive.com/broncos/index.ssf/200..._87_wmu_63.html
If playing Sunday games is what it takes to watch a quality-ref'd game, count me in for changing all our games to Sundays. It was great to watch a basketball game and not a free throw shooting contest. The refs were good, probably the best I've seen at the JAR in a long time. Can't blame the refsOne of the reasons the Mid-American Conference plays so many Tuesday and Sunday games is because it's easier to land better officiating crews on days that are slower for the rest of college basketball.Even by Sunday standards, this Sunday was a doozy. Ed Hightower, Mike Kitts and J.D. Collins have officiated in 16 Final Fours combined. Hightower, the most well-known of the trio, refereed the Michigan State-Indiana game Saturday in East Lansing."I didn't know Akron had a landing strip big enough for Hightower's private jet," one media member on press row joked. -
WMU senior David Kool complimented the Zips progress this season.http://www.mlive.com/broncos/index.ssf/200...lineup_aft.html
They've beat us up here pretty good twice," Kool said, referring to the 33-point loss here in 2007, the only other time he'll visit Akron during his career. " ... I don't think I'm personally going to miss it.""Everything, we threw at them," said Kool, who led WMU with 23 points, including four 3-pointers. "We tried different things off ball screens, just different things period. And everything they threw up was going in."Led by forward Brett McKnight's 19 points (8 of 9 field goals) off the bench, Akron's top three inside players -- all skilled and standing between 6-6 and 6-8 and more than 225 pounds -- tallied 44 points. Lowe, Drews, Whitfield, Conteh and Martelle McLemore combined for 14. -
Nate is the master of the "Circus Shot". He makes at least one outragous basket per game. Usually a 35 ft running 3pt shot or some kind of underhand reverse hoop-d-doo reverse layup with three guys guarding him. And lots of floor burns and charging calls against who ever he is guarding. I love the guy.

Who interjected race into this discussion? The only racist a-hole on this board is YOU.Most of you Browns fans would give your right nut to have Harrison on your worthless, losing team. Harrison has more fight in him than the entire Browns team. That's how you win Super Bowls and Defensive Player of the Year Award in the NFL.Suspended multiple games for punching one of your precious white guys in the back? Give me a break. Some of you are just stupid beyond belief. I was in Pittsburgh for work a couple of months ago and went to a Penguins game with my brother. We had tickets in the igloo club and Harrison was sitting a couple of rows in front of us. Between periods, Harrison hung out in the club (didn't have a single drink) and signed every autograph and took every picture people asked for. He was friendly to everyone. Didn't seem like a thug to me. -
Nice write up by Terry Pluto in the PD.

Since I've been here, we've not taken a single junior-college player," he said. "Nick Dials is our only transfer from another school [to receive a scholarship]. I'm not saying I'll never take a junior-college kid, but he'd have to be the right kid. I want to make sure that he's a good kid, that he'll graduate and that he fits in with what we're doing.""When you're used to winning 20 games and you're sitting at 9-8 and you're playing all these freshmen trying to win the MAC, you wonder if you should have taken some transfers," he said. "Early in my career, I'd have brought in at least three juco kids if I knew I was facing this kind of season." -
I think it was the right move by KD. This team is defensively good enough to win the MAC, but still needs help on offense.

Details, Details, Details...
Keep beating the drum skip ... keep beating it. Maybe you can post this in all the football threads too?Have you completely forgotten that Wood went down in the Western game and didn't play in the Northern game? All everyone is saying is that all 6 games appear to be winnable. And anything can happen.Go Zips!!I'm sure we'd all admit that last year's team was a veteran bunch...much less vulnerable to "letdown" performances. So, what happened in those 6 games?Akron's 2008 Record vs. MAC West: 3-3Included:Loss @ Central Michigan (completely unexpected)Blowout 20-Point loss @ Western Michigan10-point loss to Nothern Illinois at Home (probably the worst game we played last year) -
During the post game show, Frenchy said this was the last game of a 4 game contract. He said he didn't think there would be anymore games in the near future.I hope we can keep the rivalry with YSU going. I really enjoy the NEOhio rivalries - YSU, CSU and Can't - they're always so intense! The games are fun, meaningful and always worth the price of a ticket. Hopefully we can get CSU back on the schedule very soon. -
Zips put it together in the second half and win easily 67-54. Nik plays his most complete game yet. I think this will be the last we see of the Penguins for quite a while. The Zips have now won 18 out of the last 19 meetings.

I don't know, maybe we need to see a picture or two!
hey... lets keep that to yourself, okay?Anyone else like the dance team's outfits? I wonder if the team shop will be selling those jersey's cause I'd love to get one for my wife to wear around the house if you know what I mean. -
Sorry CK I just missed it this week. Maybe one of our other Zips fans were listening.Hilltopper - You filled us in on the answers to many of last week's ZipsNation questions...can you do a repeat performance? Anyone....Buehler...Buehler...?I bowl on Thursday nights so I rarely catch the show. Thanks! -
What were the factors that made the coaching staff decide to use Brett McClanahan this season, instead of having him red-shirt?
-
We need shooters. This year we are shooting 32% on three's,compared to last year at 38%. We get lots of open looks from the three point line. If we made more it would open things up inside. I agree with CK, Dambrot senses that the MAC is wide open this year so go for it!
-
I wonder if burning McClanahan's redshirt was a planned event or a spur of the moment decision? Since it happened, it would be a shame if he didn't get decent floor time. I think we need another shooter on this team and I hope he can hit the open looks we are getting on offense.

I get the feeling that Conyers is really emotionally fragile. It seems that when things start going downhill he just shuts down instead of turning it up a notch. KD keeps talking about how this team doesn't have the belief system that previous squads have possesed. I wonder who is the leader on the floor for this years team.
-
Thanks ZW for clarifying what KD said. I'm not ready to say he is a bust and I don't think KD is either. But the people on the board who are clamoring for more PT for Steve need to hear it from the coach. The coach says he is not ready for more PT and we should accept that.
My read on the answer, bolstered by being at a couple of practices is different than Hilltopper's.What Keith said was "Steve's a good kid .. has a great attitude (answering part of the question). He's working hard in practice, does what we're asking .. but I have to put my best team on the floor .. and right now .. that doesn't include Steve."I really don't think he inferred anything more than the current state of things .. and from asking him at a practice .. it's things that Steve is working through that will get him on the floor. Let's try not to put finality on a guy who hasn't cracked the lineup in the first 15 games of a 100+ game career. My take ..Go Zips!
He said that Steve is a nice kid , but the coach needs to play his best players and Steve isn't one of them. I felt he was pretty blunt about it. So based on who has played when the games count, he is behind a couple of walk ons.
I'm one of the unfortunate souls unable to tune in tonight. Can you say more specifically what was said about Steve Sweich? They asked KD every question. He answered them all. Things don't look good for Sweich.
