Reality;
No reduced budget
Actually we are spending more to be in the Big East
MSOC has a healthy fundraising account unlike other teams to do things.
The only glaring issue is no Director of Operations position but that was cut during COVID. Other teams lost their DO's too.
People also forget that when Caleb was here they had camps with thousands of kids making a ton of cash.
MSOC has active alumni and they always step up.
The locker was just updated this summer.
Jared and Ger both just got new contracts.

Is anyone actually going to this game? If so and you want some recommendations, I'll write some.
I'm going. Looking for a good sports bar to go for lunch on game day.

Maybe a new wide-screen video board will draw a few. I hear work has begun on it. Haven't heard if it will be ready in 4 days.
The board has been installed.

If they ever settle the lawsuits, there will be big changes in football.

You can't be in the Big East and D-3 football
Why not? The BE does not have football.

Channeling the departed member GoZips here. The best scenario for UA would be to drop football down to D-3. Leave the MAC and join the Big East for all other sports. If we can continue to grow our NIL program for Basketball we would be a good fit. The BE would gain access to another media market. Good enough to compete but not currently a threat to the current members. Imagine the crowds we would draw at the JAR. The BE has a great media contract which would more than make up for any football dollars we recieve now. Even after paying the debt on the football stadium we would still be dollars ahead. Go back to playing Mount Union etc..

ND's raking is historically inflated due to the whole, um, Jesus thing. That was not a Top 5 team...maybe top 15.
I don't think Jesus is a football fan. 🤔

The difference between Kent, OU, and BGSU versus CSU, UA, and UT is that the latter are urban campuses. Conservative media's constant bashing of urban areas as unsafe and undesirable havens of criminals and minorities has likely taken its toll, especially in relatively conservative rustbelt states like Ohio that have many other suburban and rural options (Kent, OU, and BGSU). I'd be interested to know if analogous schools in similar states (e.g. University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee) are seeing the same enrollment trends.
(I realize OSU and UC are both urban schools, but I believe their brand strength and cultures overcome the urban divide.)
Lol. Pointing out the obvious should clearly be censored!

The stadium does host lots of special events, although most are in the club level in the tower. The tower itself does get good use with the esports facility, academic facilities on floors 3&4, as well as the alumni office. I do wish we could host more concerts, but I can't imagine having blossom (a venue of similar capacity specifically made for concerts) less than 30 minutes away helps with that
The administration tried to put together a concert featuring a major country music star. They were shot down by Live Nation. The concert business is controlled by just a few companies. They decide who is playing where and when. Think TicketMaster lawsuit.

I'm truly not posting this to further depress our already deflated fan base, but here is a well written article on how the epic landscape changes are helping to resurrect one infamous program back from the dead. This is the flip side if you will - can you even imagine?
Nice story, but Akron isn’t brimming with alumni who are oil field billionaires.

A good point, but wasn't it pretty much unavoidable that UA had to build a new stadium? Was the Rubber Bowl still viable? I had not been there since the 90s, but I heard it was a nightmare to operate. I liked it as a fan though.
An 18k seat stadium would have been great.

But yes, I agree with you. They should lower their acceptance rate to about 33%.
Lower their acceptance rate and raise their fees. If so many students want in then they should pay more. Having fewer students would make it a better experience.

This got me interested so I Googled it. Thanks for mentioning it. What Toledo did to start the year promoting athletics is more than impressive. It's almost as if they are using their athletic department to benefit the athletes students alumni fans and general community. With some effort.......
That's the kind of community support to expect when you have a winning program. Zips football has been such a loser that no one is interested in being part of it.

That is total BS. I don't know who gored your ox, but you have no clue what you are talking about. You can either be part of the solution or part of the problem. That is up to you.

Despite what our AD thinks, the track and field and xc programs are in total disarray. They like to hang their hat on the fact they won the MAC titles, but that's taking credit for winning a conference that completely sucks and has only 4 or 5 schools on the mens side, depending on whether you count Miami's distance runners as a complete team. The Greatest Coach EVAH has lost a throws coach, a PV coach and a distance coach in just 2 years, not to mention the runners and throwers who have left. You can blame the SID for lack of correct info, but it stinks what this program has devolved to. But hey, we'll probably win another 4-team MAC indoors this year. Can't figure out why Garretson stayed here.
Until some boosters step.upnto the plate with NIL money, we will not be able to compete at a high level. The guys that left were promised money that we don't have. Welcome to the new world of college athletics. All they wanted was a couple thousand bucks a month each. Maybe you could help out with that.

Every so often someone will post on the drain the football team is on the athletic department. Just doing some basic math on the 2024 season -
1.8 million for Ohio State
1.0 million for Rutgers
1.5 million for South Carolina
$750,000 for the Kentucky buyout
$670,000 ESPN contract
Total revenue: $5,720,000 (plus whatever donations, ticket sales etc. are generated)
While pulling in all that cash for UA, football lost their training table and have had severe limitations put on the recruiting budget. Grad assistants are another cut someone'd mentioned earlier.
How are we supposed to compete?
Everything you say is true except for one fact that you omitted. The $5 million a year in debt service for the stadium. That money is considered part of the Athletic Department budget. There is currently a $45 million balance still due on the original $60 million price rag for the stadium. It's going to take another 20 years to pay off that debt. No other MAC Athletic department has that kind of debt hanging over them. You can thank those previous AD's who got the thing built for this situation. They have all moved on to bigger and better paydays while the current administration has to deal with the consequences.

OSU and Cincinnati lowered their enrollment standards in order to make up for lost revenue due to covid. Most of their losses were due to drops in out of state and overseas students. Between the 2 schools they have gobbled up 30,000 instate students who would have normally gone to the MAC schools and smaller private institutions. This probably cost UA at least 1000 freshman enrollments. What really needs to happen is for the state to insist that OSU increases their standards to a level even higher than before. This is how many other states are set up. Go to a school like Akron or Toledo for undergrad and then maybe OSU for an advanced degree. But what we have is pure greed by OSU. Hopefully this will change after students find out the horrible conditions they are subjected to in Columbus. Overcrowded dormitories, 500 person class sizes taught by grad assistants etc..
