I don't remember the details either but he definitely watched the MAC tournament from the stands his last year.
He had a shoulder injury about mid-season and refused to do the rehab required to get back on the court. Some family members convinced him that he might
re-injure it and hurt his chances of playing in the NBA. They were convinced the coaching staff wasn't using him properly and he deserved to be the starting center, not Big Dog. He was a very soft player and by the end of the season the staff was done with his antics. He wasn't included on the post season roster.

Charlotte has one of the worst highway systems of any major city. Note to Ohioans, it is worth the cost of the tolls to use the express lanes when traveling through on your way north or south.

Dr. Miller was hired to accomplish 2 main objectives:
1. Stabilize the university's finances. Fact: They recently had to dip into emergency funds AGAIN to the tune of $30MM and are on track for another $50MM shortfall next year. This "rainy day" fund is drying up.
2. Reverse enrollment declines. After much hullabaloo about attracting a whopping 11 more students than the year before in fall 2023 (even though undergrad enrollment declined by nearly 200), the board was disappointed and embarrassed to hear that enrollment is projected to decline again in the fall 2024. And not by a small number.
The board had to do something, even if only for optics. When enrollment numbers are released in September there will be a hue and cry from faculty, alumni, etc.
The university is caught in a severe financial emergency.
Every single public university with the exception of OSU and Cincinnati are in the same financial trouble.

There is a new high definition ribbon board being installed at the base of the upperdeck on the east grandstand in addition to the new main board. This and the size of the main board will open up much more in the way of local sponsorship/advertising. BTW, all of this was paid for by Learfield. Around $1 million.

Lots of speculation in this article about Miller being pushed out by the Board of Trustees. Seems like that isn’t known for sure, but the whole process was highly unusual. He decided it was time to retire and spend time with his family in Texas. Not everything has to be some kind of conspiracy theory.

I'm hoping a Mexican drug cartel sponsors a field just to prove how shameless athletic directors are.
UTEP could possibly pull that off!

My ideal game is a completely empty stadium, on a Saturday afternoon, with the exception of me and Mrs. GP1, the luckiest woman in the world. However, I know that isn't good for the program so I can only dream.
All you have to do to fulfill your dream is to attend one of the Tuesday night games in late November.

Your lack of historical knowledge of Zips basketball renders these polls as worthless.

I remember the Red Panda performing at the Jar and she was amazing. I know we have had a lot of volunteer dance teams at the Jar, but can anyone remember any other paid performers that came in at half time.
Various Frisbee catching dogs, Bud Light Daredevils.

The country went through a period of thought that everyone would need some level of higher education to succeed. After the recession of 2008 and the resulting high unempyment rates, Obama really ran with this idea and expanded federal funding for loans and grants. Colleges like Akron saw big increases in enrollment and responded. Eventually the government funding dried up and the bubble burst.

Bill and Mary Skeeles have made another generous donation to Zips Baseball. $1.3 million will fully fund scholarships to the max level allowed.

The article mentions him playing a hybrid wing. Personally, I feel that takes away from his main strength, rebounding. I see him more as a PF at the next level who can also play the C when a team is wanting to play small and run.
The NBA is mostly position less today.

Brings a new dynamic to AD Guthrie's job, who was hand-picked by Gary. Will be interesting to see what changes happen to athletics in the near term, if any.
Guthrie just signed a contract extension that keeps him here until 2028. He has a great working relationship with the BoT. Nemer is also a sports guy with a good understanding of what athletics adds to the university. Btw, John Groce and Jared Embick also got extentions. None of our key guys are entering the transfer portal!😉

If you were grading this coaching staff you would give them an F. The magnificent pipeline that Mitchell established has gone dry. Pick any event area (sprints, middle distances, hurdles, field events, combined events, jumps) and we are weak. I have been waiting for this staff to rebuild to Mitchell level performance and it is not there. It's time for a change.
She sucks so bad that she was selected as the top coach. If a couple of the girls who transferred out had given her a chance, we would have won the womens title too. You should be more worried about her getting hired away from the Zips.

Having been a season ticket holder in what is now the student section
and in earlier years the adjacent midcourt section, I can't say I think much of the student section placement now. The sightlines in the JAR are bad enough without having to look over standing student's heads. Why not put the students in the 4 corner blue seat sections and put the seats behind the baskets back for them, too? They'd wrap around both baskets and not be in others sightlines.
The seats that were behind the baskets have been cannibalize for parts to replace/repair other seats. There are no replacements manufactured any longer.

@Hilltopper would be a great name for someone from West Virginia. Coach Fulford is that you? Have you been lurking the whole time? Inquiring minds want to know.
I do have some WVA roots, but my moniker harkens back to the days when Akronites reffered to UA as Hilltop High. After you graduated from highschool you went to 13th grade at Buchtel College on the hill.
