Let's get a few things straight. I am friends with Beanie hence the name. Two, I am a huge zips fan. Three, I happen to know a lot about the Zips football team than mostly everyone on this board does and I like to keep you guys, the other die hard zips fans, on this board better informed. Bowser is going to be out for a couple weeks had knee scope and will be back before the Wisconsin game. I would love to see B. Will win the Heisman!!!! He is my boy! This is a great team we have this year and could be capable of something special. But hey the people who make the pre-season polls dont have to know this. We are deep and talented. Beat the Badgers. And for good measure Happy Birthday Beanie

Bowser tweaked his knee on the first route of the day. He could have continued practice, and wanted to, but the coaches dont want to risk anything since he is a special player. He will be fine.Five picks did happen and one thing this bored has to realize is, Not every pick is a QB's fault. And it is the first day of camp. So calm down. People on this board go nuts about every little thing. Give it time.

Re-hashing Devoe Torrence
Beanie 4 Heisman replied to g-mann17's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Well said Captain Kangaroo! This team needs to start winning NOW. If that means taking chances, then let's take chances and let the AD figure out ways to put controls on the players (ie: 24 hour study table, 7day a week bed check, etc.). If any of you don't want to take chances, please don't come on the board and bitch when the team is losing. Please don't complain about the coaching either, because your mentality put hand cuffs on the guy. Here is a question I would love some on this board to answer. If we can't take JUCO players because they are a risk, if we can't take a kid who might have gotten into a problem of which he was found not guilty, if we can't take players because they are not from the mid west, if we can't take players because they may have come from the wrong side of the tracks, if we can't take players because they aren't smart enough to get on the Dean's List, if we can't take kids who transfered from a BCS school because they may not fit in, if we can't take a kid because he may enjoy a good party or God forbid smoking a joint every once in a while (you guys know you did in college and maybe beyond), who in the Hell do we take and how do we win with that group? It seems to me as if there would not be enough of the remaining "talent" to win anything. There is not a coach in the world who can win with a group of choir boys. You guys may think they can, but they can't and they never have.UofA is in freaking D-1A college football. The whole 1950s mentality I see on this board does not translate into winning (actually, college football was even more corrupt in the 1950s than it is now, but that is another discussion) in 2008. I can guarantee you guys one thing, fans at winning programs are not sitting around wringing their hands worrying about what players are doing when they are not winning. Winning has a way of baptizing away a lot of sins. We need to start thinking like winners and not our narrow minded grandparents.Preach GP1!!! Well said. Torrence has reported to camp. We will see how he and the rest of the team looks on the field tomorrow. -
Out of curiosity, I checked one of the gopher sites & found this thread:"The official "Where the **** is Vince Hill?" Thread" I wonder if maybe Da'Von Moore might be able to put a big hit on this kid this season. Is he still around?Da' Von Moore still around. He hurt himself in the first practice he took place in during last season. Either tore his ACL or something with his ankle. Needless to say it wasnt very good. He will be at camp once it opens this week. Also coming to camp a BIG NAME running back! Could be the the best recruit in the MAC by far next to Deryn Bowser.

Mackey is getting an MRI on his knee tomorrow and will know what is wrong for sure shortly after. After talking to him today he said he wants to get a medical redshirt if possible.
-
I was thinking that too.I've compared the pictures. The guy holding the wheel looks a little thick to be Jackson.I compared everything, even down to the clear face mask plastic. But now that someone else has said it, I think you may be right. Why do the Zips have two 7's?I'm surprised the conference allows that. Are you serious? Look at every roster in the country and you will find multiple numbers. They just can not be on the field at the same time. Akron has many multiple numbers as does every school in the country.

Id like to see Andy Hildreth get a chance back there punting he gets great hang time and is more consistent. I dont know why stec is the only one punting. If you watched any college games this year you will see the spread punt used a lot. OSU has made a change to the spread punt as well. I know i saw a couple teams use it as well. There are many more options a team has while using the spread punt.

DK isnt dinged up he just had cramps during the game last week. He is a great back kind of an emmit smith style running back wont break the big play too often but is consistent and tough to bring down. he is fundamentally solid at his position. Are Bryan Williams and Alex Allen more explosive. Yes. Alex Allen is as physical as they come. You know who else is a solid back Joe Tuzze. He is a the strongest person on the team pound for pound without a doubt. I would personally love to see him get more carries.

Harvey is back. I saw him in the union the other and he was sayin he's gotta take 16 hours the next 2 semesters and something over the summer too

Dont worry we lost a QB today any how so we are now down to 5.

New stadium: soccer friendly? Expandable?
Beanie 4 Heisman replied to LosAngelesZipFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
I'm sure they could use it for soccer event as well. If you ever watch soccer they have a few feet max from sidelines to the advertisemnts on the side of the field. The sidelines will be fairly large i would assume because it makes it easier for the teams to set up all of their equipment during the games. So im going to guess we could make the field 75 yards wide if need for a soccer tournament or a game. Here's a question though. Has anyone found out about lights at the stadium yet? -
Army rated the worst team in football.
Beanie 4 Heisman replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
i agree with that. I say we beat most of the MAC teams rated ahead of us. -

It isnt saying much, but we are ranked 99 out of 119 needless to say not very good. -
Welcome to the life of a mid-major. Harvey actually didnt qualify out of high school and we were the only school that kept with him and he ended up come back to us because of the loyalty we showed to him. Last year we lost a few guys to prep schools as well. most notably Mark Jackson. I'm not sure where he ended up signing at now or if he did. I believe DJ Henderson also went to a prep school out of last years class. So we end up losing quite a few recruits. I'm sure we will lose more than vince hill out of this years class to academic reasons.

You forgot someone who could possibly be one of the best DE's in the MAC. Marquinn Davis!! I've seen this guy run around the fieldhouse. He is about 6'5" fairly thick, and cut. Plus he was beating most of the team during sprints. He only played one year of football in high school, but who knows maybe something will click here and we could see him on the field this year.

Sorry It's been a while but Where's Harvey???
Beanie 4 Heisman replied to Ziptastic's topic in Akron Zips Football
Harvey is gone. Lindsay is at a JUCO right now -
i think they have been running it as long as rich rodriguez has been there so i think about 3 or 4 years. roughly the same amount of time we have been running it. I think we had a good defense last season, but the offense couldnt stay on the field. Which makes it tough for a defense when your out there most of the game.
-
Alright someone who actually knows the 3-3-5. This scheme can really be good with the right personel, which i think we are accumulating.
-
well brinson hasnt been around at all. I dont know what his story is. If i find out i'll let you know.
-
we are fairly thin at corner. if you look we have reggie corner, davanzo tate, and brandon anderson as the only returning people from last year. Delvin Davis and DeAndre DeScott are no longer with the team. Miguel Graham makes CB number 4 and if we use bryan williams as a corner that makes 5. i dont think 5 corners is enough especially if there are injuries. What do we do in nickel and dime situations if there are injuries?

When Igor kicks he is money, although he does have some minor trajectory issues. His back is not feeling much better. He is still in pain quite often and hastn kicked since the middle of the season when he was trying to see if he could kick with out much pain. There is a kicker that has come to akron from Toledo. The coach there did not release him so therefore he wont be able to be on scholarship this year, but i believe he could play after he sits out a year. someone correct me if im wrong about that rule.
-
Cline had to drop some classes that put him below hours. Im not to sure whether or not he will be elidigable to play next season or not i guess it just depends on how he does this semester and in the summer.
-
Anyone else worried about kicking
Beanie 4 Heisman replied to zipzroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
the other kicker igor iveljic has been out since the second day of camp. He did something to his back and hasnt practiced since. That is why we havent seen him at all. -

What are you smoking and will you please pass it to me if you think jacquamain looks better than jackson. Carlton will be the clear number 2 on this years team.O and if you were there you would know that reid is not even practicing due to a knee injury so how is he in mid season form.
